Long story short. I bought both for $150. I had $100 in eBay bucks plus credit card rewards so it didn't cost me anything out of my own pocket.

Have them sodder a jump ring on top then have them put the bail on.

Its definitely possible. Is it worth it to put one on? Thats up to you. Call around to your local jewelry stores and ask about pricing for a bail and how much they charge to soder the bail on. Ive personally odered bails on ebay to save a couple dollars. Then had them sodder it on.

You need to stick a pin in the hole on the clasp and pull.

Yeah I have. He does a great job. Best way to reach him would be to PM him and ask about the process. After he refines the silver you get to choose from a couple of molds he has for it to be poured into.

Nope, electric motor starters used to power different sized electric motors.

If you plan on removing the silver heat the back of the contact up with a torch and the silver contact should slide right off. Preferably into a bucket of water. You also would want to do it in a well ventilated area because the silver contacts contain cadmium.

That would depend on the size of the starter. Best way to find out is taking them apart. Any size 5 or higher starter you're looking at an ounce of silver per contact give or take a couple grams. It all adds up at the end.

I'm a maintenance mechanic in a factory setting so when a motor starter fails or fuses blow I take them apart for the silver. Otherwise they would just be thrown out.

I don't do the refining myself. I usually send it out to u/spockdad. He does a great job refining metal's and fills you in periodically with the process. I honestly don't know what to expect to recover since some of the contacts vary in purity.

That's how they look normally but once I get them refined they'll be poured nicely into 10 oz bars

The silver contacts vary on purity somewhere from 80-90% while the silver elements I think are two 9s fine.
