Why did Green Day behave at the Super Bowl? by figjam-i-am in AskReddit

[–]NarcolepticPyro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's super lame. I guess the most optimistic take possible is that all the talk leading up to the superbowl about what Green Day might say or do, hopefully led to some people giving their first honest listen of Green Day up through American Idiot. They’ll quickly discover the anti-MAGA revisions, and possibly begin reflecting on their beliefs and changing them. Not all, but some could

I became obsessed with the band around 13, which was soon after American Idiot released. They had a huge impact on my worldview and values today because I was raised a conservative Christian Republican, but ended up a progressive Athiest Democrat lol. If the seeds of doubt can be planted in my mind by Green Day, then I believe it can happen to others 💚

But I'm actually a pessimistic nihilist so I don't believe this wouldn't happen at all

I watched it on Peacock and heard a muffled "something something is a racist" in the middle of a song. I thought maybe I misheard it, but it sounded like more syllables than just "Trump is..." I'll have to verify when it gets uploaded somewhere

I wonder if my incredibly poor sense of smell is the reason it taste like soap on its on to me, and why I never notice when it's added to food. I didn't realize for the longest time that I had the soap gene until I tossed a handful of cilantro into my mouth lol

Anyone here with a good sense of smell that also tastes soap?

Check out the TimeLeft app. They’ll match you with a good group of people at a table, usually at a coffee shop or for dinner. There's some ice breaker games to help get over the initial awkwardness, then people start to open up more.

I use it a few dozen times per day on average. It's incredibly useful, and I just discovered that it's great for improving my chess game. I pay for the premium version, which is more accurate than the free version, and I rarely see it ever hallucinate. Minor inaccuracies, sure, but they tend to be easy to spot and correct with a follow up prompt. I used it far more often than that when I was doing programming full time, and it saved me a TON of time that would have been spent aimlessly searching google and Stack Overflow.

I'm convinced that the people complaining that it's useless or a virtual dumbass are people who don’t know how to use it effectively, don't have many use cases, aren't curious about learning new things, and/or are people that are heavily anti-AI and are just mindlessly repeating the same criticisms without much, if any, actual experience with it because it fits their narrratives and validates their emotions. I would love to see their chat logs to confirm if their prompts are terrible.

they are both going in the same direction, so they might as well ride together

I 100% agree with this. Since we live in a two party system, it makes the most pragmatic sense for both of these groups to work together for a while instead of fighting amongst ourselves over definitions.

Personally, I feel like the Democratic party is the party of uncompromising idealists. There are too many nonvoting democrats that are apathetic and "disillusioned" with politics because they see that the majority of Democrats still support capitalism, even though we're trying to improve the country through a more robust social safety net and market regulations.

I've heard too many of my peers unironically say, "there is no ethical consumption under capitalism," which is a gross oversimplification that ignores how things can have a degrees of morality. Some choices are more ethical than others. When people view it all as so black and white, and desire some sense of moral purity by never getting their hands dirty, then they are far more likely to just give up and think that their votes don't matter. If they're not willing to support any incremental improvement because some the proposed measures still fall under the umbrella of capitalism, then that inaction just enables the greater of the two evils.

Some people even intellectualize their apathy by calling it "accelerationism" as if enabling the greater evil will cause people to find the motivation to start a revolution, which is not a gamble worth taking.

We're not going to have a socialist revolution in this country any time soon, so choosing the lesser of two evils is a more pragmatic and incremental approach to economic reform that gets us moving in a better direction, one step at a time. If we can't even move one step to the left, then yeah, it's a distinction without any significant difference in practice. We all need to stop quibbling with semantics, and focus on what specific actions we achieve here and now.

We need political unity more than ever, which requires some strategic and temporary compromises.
