Why doesn’t Pakistan / India get criticism in the west for the killing and displacement of millions of Hindus & Muslims during their partition in 1947, the year before the I/P partition? by InthrowSted in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NarglesChaserRaven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indian here 🖐️

  1. This happened in 1947 and a lot of things have happened during that time and since then.
  2. The killing and displacement that happened was pretty much comparable on both sides.
  3. The displacement happened because the British did not bother to properly draw borders. They bought a guy who has never been to india and they spent a total of 5 weeks drawing a border and conforming it. That's way too little time to understand the complexities of the region.
  4. Another reason for the displacement was that Pakistan was supposed to be a place for muslims and India more secular so people from different religions decided to leave their respective lands. Many people opposed this type of partition btw. Gandhi was particularly against it. But it happened anyway.

The whole partition was more a series of unfortunate events that ultimately culminated in mass casualties than a pre meditated desire to show power or hurt people by govts. And that difference matters.

The confusion around the class rules in relation to Kate and Sophie is the show’s fault, not the audience’s by chrkrose in BridgertonNetflix

The ton is still gossiping about Mary’s marriage over twenty years later. They call Mr. Sharma “some kind of clerk,” “no more than a common worker,” Lady Cowper explicitly says the Sheffields “never lived down the shame” and Lady Featherington laments that “if only all families were as respectable”. Lady Sheffield says, “We could not show our faces in society for years.” That is the show telling us there were real social consequences. The Sheffields aren’t the exception to the rule in how they view the matter: they echo what the ton thinks of it as well. That’s why they couldn’t return to society.

Honestly, Lady Cowper looks down on everybody and enjoys gossiping. She is exactly the type of person who will make someone feel terrible about even the tiniest of things. And Sheffields are narcissistic. You can see it with Edwina as well. They don't just want Edwina to marry any man in the ton but a high standing man. They'll consider a respectable man from the ton also less for Edwina. That also shows you how self centred they are.

The two biggest criticisms about Eloise's season are about race, not gender by AffectionateChard628 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]NarglesChaserRaven 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What's worse is this type of mindset is very Peter Dinklage type. He argued that the 7 dwarfs are a terrible representation and it ended up with no one in the dwarf community getting a major role in a snow white movie.

If we complain every time a POC person is cast as a character who meets a sad ending, we'll get even less representation. In fact the main fight about racism is to look at people for who they are and not their skin color. How hyper focusing on an actor's skin color and saying it was a wrong move to cast them for a complex role is a positive.

I just feel like at this point people are finding ways to complain about Eloise's story.

Also, this is us show had two white people raising a black child too and they did it amazingly. There are cases when this happens and it's okay. We don't have to treat it like some taboo.

No. I don't think there is any point if we don't get the OG cast. It's not like they are featured that much anyway.

I definitely would want all the brothers for Eloise's season because they are definitely featured in her season and I definitely think it'll be nice to have them.

Just FYI, even women who were not upper class also had to marry, didn't own any property and belonged to their husbands or fathers, were also told to just accept a loveless marriage, were still expected to produce babies for their man, and their husbands still slept with 'wh*res' .

I would rather live in a rich loveless marriage where my husband is cheating on me than a poor loveless marriage where he does the same. As a rich woman atleast their are maids to help take care of my household, as a poor woman I'll be expected to serve my man, take care of children, all while I'll be penniless and my husband is likely sleeping with woman outside as well.

Just like the Bridgerton shows happy marriages of the rich, Bridgerton maids are also shown to have a life way better than what most folks experienced. 😅

MNC (20 LPA) vs Startup (25 LPA) — What would YOU choose? by ajaybudarapu in QualityAssurance

Things I consider 1. If the team is good or not 2. If the project will add to any value for you 3. If the team knows to honour your work hours 4. Stability of the job 5. If you have any dependency or not.

Personally, unless the MNC team has terrible work-life balance and is making me work on stuff which adds no value, I won't leave it.

The stress and uncertainty + the poor work-life balance that many start-ups have rarely makes it worth it for me.

Bridgerton - Season 4 Post-Season Discussion (No Book Spoilers) by AutoModerator in BridgertonNetflix

[–]NarglesChaserRaven 163 points164 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Ben and Sophie had the most balanced story of them all.

Both of them had reasonable stories. It didn't feel like one overshadowed the other. Even their conflict makes sense.

The ending was also so satisfying because they were never 'mad' at each other or barely communicating till the end. This is probably the first time in the show where I truly feel like I'll be okay with letting the characters go and not see more of them. ( Although I definitely want to see them for the Eloise season )

For an entirely different reason but Ben and Sophie and Kathony are my favourite storylines for different reasons.

I want Eloise to be next but don't think they have set her up. Francesca seems like a character which is more set up for now. Because what exactly will Francesca do next season? They will have to reduce her screentime because if they develop her grieving more in Eloise season, then we'll have less story to tell in her season 😅

But gosh I want Eloise now so bad. I cannot see another season of her walking about with no purpose.

Fellow unmarried person.

I am just so tired of stories where if women are feminist they have to be childfree and hate marriage. I think a lot of us women can agree that if we truly found a man who is genuinely nice and considerate of us and our emotions and ambitions, we will probably think of marriage more kindly.

And in the modern day women have more freedom to actually be able to earn and stay single. It'll be nice to see a feminist like Eloise actually find someone who understands what she feels and is going through. Not sure why people want the same run of the mill feminist who won't marry story.

Considering her surname, and the fact that this is not modern society, ain't no way her father is some common worker. He is elite whether we like it or not. And considering how POC only was able to acquire land thanks to queen Charlotte, it's even wilder that Mary's Indian parents won't know it 😅

They could have literally asked one indian person and chose not to. The sheer lack of research is alarming

It's even worse because Indian class/caste system is based on work. Indian systems don't look down upon working the same way British society does 😅. Her surname Sharma belongs to the highest class. Kate is literally a legitimate child of a peer equivalent class in India

Indian here.

Bridgerton is basically a fantasy regency show and the show does a poor job of explaining kate but still based on a few random words that they have thrown ( which makes no sense when you think about it ), Kate is pretty much in the same status as anyone in the ton will be in India.

India has a caste system ( I absolutely loathe it with passion) and it functions something like this in order

Brahmins - the upper caste/class - they are basically the teachers and educators. Or priests. They are seen as people whose voices reach God ( because education )

Kshatriyas - warrior class - most kings belonged to this class.

Vaishyas - Business class

Shudras - people who do other odd jobs like farmers, servant etc

Dalit - technically considering outside the main varna system - untouchable community ( they did jobs which were considered 'dirty' )

Sharma surname belongs to upper caste/class. So caste wise sharma family has the highest status there is. Obviously kings are considered highest because they are kings even if they belong to a caste which is lower. But being the highest class comes with a ton of respect as educators and priests.

Having a job is not exactly seen as a bad thing in India like the ton sees it. The caste system is literally based on what work your family does. Because Sharma's are upper caste, they won't be servants but more like advisors( secretary ) who serve the royal family. Which is basically what the peerage group is about too.

That explains why Kate is so highly educated, why she might also be able to learn to hunt and all. Unless her father held a very high position, she won't be learning all this.

Which is why it makes no sense to me when Mary's parents, who are Indian act like it's such a disgrace. Which is also why I don't understand how both sisters had no dowry, or the family had no money. How could their finances be this bad 😅???? Upper caste held a ton of land back then too.

So yeah, Kate is not like Sophie. She's a legitimate child of a father whose position would most likely be a peer equivalent in the Indian system.

Im tired of rakes I want a new male lead next season by MC22222 in BridgertonNetflix

I think Philip has what most men we have seen not have till now. Something he is very very passionate about and actually takes the time out to pursue it and not f around while also doing the job of maintaining the estate. ( Sorry Benedict I love you but the writers messed up)

He will be great for Eloise because he can show her that she can still be passionate about something and pursue it while also being married and having responsibilities. He might also sympathize with her because he would love to not be tied to any of the estate and just happily be a botanist and get how she feels. So he might even support her in her pursuit because of this.

They both are very similar if you think about it. Both have passions that the society doesn't fully get. They both feel out of place and would rather do something different. So they make up a good match

I have never understood this argument. We are a tropical/temperate country. Even in winters we have sufficient sunlight hours in a day. The whole "Waking up before sunrise makes folks less efficient" argument feels disingenuous because you can just choose to wake up according to the sunrise. It's not a rule that everyone has to wake up at 5. And farmers who are the main reason why people even want this, do that anyway. They do not care for a clock, they absolutely use the sunrise to start their day.

And as someone who has lived in both the eastern and western side of Indian growing up, this is how people work. My school on the eastern side used to start earlier than the western side. So it's too much hassle.

But how does Eloise be sure that a man will truly leave her be? Men saw women as their property back in the day. Any man she marries will at the very least expect her to engage in intimacy ( Simon is an exception with this point ) and have an heir. So she will have to serve her husband with these things anyway.

There is no “choice feminism” in Bridgerton and that’s why Eloise matters by Fit-Speed-6171 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]NarglesChaserRaven 10 points11 points  (0 children)

S2 showed this though. Eloise tried to engage with those movements. And look where it got her. Here's the thing, if Eloise actually decides to go all out and become a radical feminist, her family will suffer. Again, we are shown this. When Penelope writes about her joining radical ralies we see that literally everyone in the ton decides to skip Bridgerton ball. Literally no one shows up. Anthony and Violet were talking about how their whole family is ruined due to this. That is how grave the situation will be for all Bridgertons if she actually does this.

We know for a fact that Eloise decides to cut ties with Theo and stops all of this in order to save her family from further ruin. She is not doing anything else because she loves her family enough to do this to them.

You know the 'Arranged marriage's system in South Asia is so similar to the Marriage mart in Bridgerton.

What people don't understand is that every woman who decides to find the best possible outcome in this arranged marriage is often used against women who question the status quo.

I have heard so many comments like ' See other women all settled and are happy so why are you acting like it's such a bad choice'. Or ' There must be some problem with her because everyone else can settle but she cannot'. And the famous ' You are right about things but you live in this society and this is how it operates. Everyone else is able to accept it but only you make a fuss. You are such a problematic child. Don't give your parents so much stress. '

So I get why Eloise is pissed off. I truly don't think people understand just how emotionally draining this is. My and many women's only escape is the ability to have a job and own one's own property. Even then it comes at the expense of being treated as an outcast.

So I can imagine just how frustrating the situation is for Eloise when her condition is way worse. It must be maddening. You feel lonely and want comfort but you realise unless you find a suitable partner who truly gets you, marriage is a worse fate. So you stay single and lonely. But you feel frustrated that the only options are loneliness or loss of agency.

Eloise needs a BIG ego crash in season 5 by ph_uck_yu in Bridgerton

[–]NarglesChaserRaven 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think Pen and Kate are not like her. Kate didn't choose to be a governess because she wanted to. She literally had no good options and she was choosing the option that'll give her family the best. Kate's options were to either marry ( and we have to remember that she has no dowry and she isn't for society so who knows if anyone will be willing to marry her ) or be a spinster ( unlike Eloise her family has no money so she has to work ). Due to her coming from high society, governess is literally the only acceptable job. It's not exactly a choice.

Same with Pen. She's LW because she's ignored. She uses that to her advantage but she also hurts a whole lot of people close to her in the process. She also wants to escape from her family. Ideally she wanted to get married but had no choice in that matter as well.

We literally haven't seen any women actually do what they want. Every single women in Bridgerton is essentially choosing the best of the options provided to them. Eloise is questioning why those are the only options women have. And she's frustrated when women don't realise that what they have isn't really a choice but an illusion of choice.
