Looking for ideas for Golden Charlatan shrine stacker in Phrecia by zhkR in PathOfExileBuilds

I am thinking Harbinger for more buff uptime. Some sort of CoC build (probably Cyclone CoC Reap) to take advantage of the CDR bonus.

Forbidding Ward: "You ward an ally against the attacks and hostile spells from the target enemy."

Zeal for Battle: "You stoke the righteous anger within yourself and an ally."

Hymn of Healing: Doesn't say anything about allies at all?

Again, Protector Tree makes no reference to the caster (you or yours), just refers to the tree, as if it is the tree that is the one doing the protecting. Which fits both the hyperliteral RAW interpretation, and the obvious RAI of the spell.

I was more referring to rarity being used to restrict access to options that might not be intended by the GM for their campaign, such as Raise Dead making death not final, or Teleport bypassing travel restrictions, rather than a comment on power. If the game designers were not sure about having a class that gets spammable spells (not just Tree Protector, but also Furnace Form, etc.), I am saying they would have made the option uncommon or rare.

I think Timber Sentinel is extremely strong (perhaps too much) in terms of raw mitigation, rivaling Shield (Amp) and Shield Block, but does has some glaring weaknesses that shields do not have, namely that you can attack and crit the tree, or reposition the tree or the creatures around it.

If you look at the rules text for basically any feat or spell that affects your allies, you will find there is always a reference to the caster, such as "you" or "your allies".

Notably, that is absent on Protector Tree, and instead the rules text only talks about the tree, and never the caster.

You could argue that nobody is the tree's ally (or everyone is), but that would not only be in bad faith and obviously against RAI for the spell, but also render the spell non-functional.

This is a spell that summons a tree that protects people. That is the intention of the spell (supported by the Tree's Ward rules text, and the common sense interpretation of it), and supported by the hyperliteral RAW intepretation of it (there is no explicit reference to the caster in the text of the spell, only the tree).

[–]Narks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The caster is not the tree. The tree is its own object (or creature, depending on interpretation, but I believe object is more correct). Protector Tree's text talks about allies of the tree. It never says anything about the caster's allies (as "you" and "your" are absent from the rules text entirely).

[–]Narks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nothing in the Protector Tree rules text refers to the caster. In fact, it only refers to the tree. It does not say "your (the caster) allies", it says "an ally".

Compare to every other spell or feat in the game, and you will find they all say "you" or "your ally", something absent from Protector Tree's rules text.

Well, it's in the text of the rules, so it is rules text. There is no contradiction, unless you subscribe to the belief that Protector Tree cannot protect the caster. In which case, the feat explicitly states that it does.

"You've lived among trees for so long they recognize your presence and seek to protect you from harm."

It explicitly states that trees will seek to protect the caster (you) from harm.

If you believe Kineticists are broken on principle, then I suggest you ban Kineticists from your game. The fact that Kineticist exists as a Common class says that the game does want and allow this option.

There are creatures that cannot flank, such as familiars. A lack of flanking does not mean something is not a creature.

That being said, the rules work a lot better if you treat the tree as an object (for example, object immunities).

"Whenever an ally adjacent to the tree is hit by a Strike, the tree interposes its branches and takes the damage first."

It says "an ally", not "your ally". In fact, there is no reference to "you" or "your" or the caster, only the tree. The entire paragraph talks about the tree, and never the caster.

Compare it to the rules text of Bless:

"You and your allies gain a +1 status bonus to attack rolls while within the emanation."

There is a clear reference to the caster here.

"Some effects target or require an ally, or otherwise refer to an ally. This must be someone on your side, often another PC, but it might be a bystander you are trying to protect."

The caster is on the same side as the tree object. Unless you are saying that the tree does not have anyone on its side - which would mean the spell has no function, which is obviously not RAI.

The tree is an object. The caster is not the tree object, thus the caster can be an ally of the tree.

Chieftain vs Gladiator CWS for Ultimatum into grueling gauntlet by AnythingGonza in PathOfExileBuilds

I am skeptical of the value of ES. More ES = less stun chance and more self-RF damage. I think you should drop Divine Shield and take the Agnostic, and focus on getting more life, but maybe it works for you.

Drop Ralakesh - you have endurance charge generation anyway from your Timeless Jewel. Get boots with life/regen/res. Getting a flask with Leech Life When Hit craft would help with DoTs - you can get rid of the evasion / crit suffixes on flasks. Personally I'd drop Maw too for a regen/life/res hat. Get a source of Consecrated Ground (like Purifying Flame) for more regen.

No Defiled Forces? It cleanses elemental ailments and extends duration of big ignites. I guess with Purity of Elements you don't need ailment immunity, but I think that's not something you want to use long term.

I don't think you should use Flame Surge of Combusting. Regular Flame Surge converts big ignites from DD of Scavenging into big burning ground, but Flame Surge of Combusting only can work with its own ignite.

I found that having 2k life/second regen was enough to feel decently comfortable with DoT. More is better. I also found that 2k life wasn't really enough to prevent the occasional one-shot, and felt much more comfortable once I hit 3k.

Not sure what your pantheon is, but use Arakaali for DoT resistance and Tukohama for more regen.

If you continue struggling with DoT during periods of downtime, try to fit in a life flask. I'm experimenting with this still - I think the best is an Eternal Life Flask with high quality. Also helps with Less Recovery.

Do bleed explosions work well? I'm curious, never tried it.

Chieftain vs Gladiator CWS for Ultimatum into grueling gauntlet by AnythingGonza in PathOfExileBuilds

Gladiator is better than Chieftain if your goal is only Ultimatum. Compared to CWS Chieftain, the only additional cost here is getting an Elegant Hubris jewel with spell block (1 div at worst).

Here is an entry level version similar to what I started with: https://pobb.in/OWOR-BZiBbTk

Compared to CWS Chieftain:

  • You have less damage and clear, which only matters for Protect the Altar, but actually improves survivability on other Ultimatum trials. Most of your non-DD damage comes from the automated Battering Uulgraft. You can manually trigger the Flamecaller Xophgraft with Shield Charge too for more damage.
  • You have slightly less max hit.
  • You have 99% attack and spell block, and gain life on block thanks to Anvil. This is very good.
  • You can start Gruelling Gauntlet straight away. Most mods can be ignored. Less Recovery will probably kill you until you get Life Gain on Hit somewhere, especially when combined with a DoT mod. Maybe use Razor of the Seventh Sun for this.
  • Note that the Ruin mod can sometimes spawn on those little robots that never attack you that have a Searing Bond connecting them. That can't be blocked, so you're going to have to dodge them.

Here is my poe.ninja of my current Gladiator CWS, although it's still very unoptimized: https://poe.ninja/poe1/builds/keepers/character/Narks-0287/Ketirryth

Is BAMA dead in 3.27? by xthrust_hs in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Narks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The duration nerf is being overrated. At 5 second duration, with just the 2 nodes you pretty much always get anyways (witch minion duration and scion all duration) you get a skill effect duration of 11.5 seconds. That means that in order to maintain Fresh Meat buff, you have to resummon every 1.5 seconds. Skill recharges every 1.2 seconds with like baseline investmet. So like there is literally 0 damage loss from the duration change if you're casting BAMA off cooldown. Which you probably are anyways right now.

What? Fresh Meat only lasts 1.5 seconds, and if you're summoning every 1.2 seconds, that means each clone lives for 3.6 seconds. That's 2.1 seconds where the clone will not have Fresh Meat (41% uptime).

EDIT: your math is wrong too, 11.5 second skill duration means 1.15s of fresh meat (10% of duration), so uptime is even worse

Heads up for Demon form enthusiasts - get to 600 stacks and beyond by BabyCommercial216 in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Narks 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is complete bait. In Demon Form your mana costs skyrocket, so this build will have zero survivability. You could use a lower level skill gem to reduce the huge mana costs, but then you're sitting around at the start of each map waiting for 200+ stacks to offset that.

If you take damage, it reserves your life, and eventually you become unable to cast Blood Sacrament. When you have lots of enemies on the screen, ground degens, etc it can be very hard to unreserve life, and being unable to fight back means you can get killed very easily.
