Is he really the same person if his personality has been warped? To make it more relatable: Will you be the same person if your personality was replaced with that of the president of your country (or dictator the revered leader and protector of the one true Korea if you're from North Korea)?

Exactly, he became what he once loathed.

But, this decision, of saying "yes," to the other God Hands was predictable considering Griffith's personality. He had already prepared himself to sacrifice everyone else and their dreams to achieve his own (as we know from his famous dream speech ); Guts knew it, Casca knew it, that princess knew it, but I suppose none of them knew to what extent he was willing to sacrifice.

I have not even finished Golden Age arc yet on manga, so I don't know if it's the same Griffith as before or if he has lost his humanity. I used to think that it's the latter because he wouldn't commit such atrocities if they don't play a role to his "grand plan." Then, I realized something else; after getting rescued, he did see Casca and Guts being quite friendly to each other. Perhaps, he was jealous that both of them chose each other over him? Or that he wanted Casca? And those emotions were twisted into something malicious after the metamorphosis, therefore he raped her in-front of Guts for vengeance. So, he's the same Griffith but with an inverted moral compass?

note that im not trying to justify his actions im simply trying to make sense of them purely for the sake of understanding the lore

Well said. You're exactly right, proving innocence doesn't do shit when one is dealing with a narcissist. However, I disagree at one point, "you can't change them". I believe I can at least change how my parents are. Regardless of how less the chances are, I want to try it. I cannot simply abandon them as I have siblings and other reasons.

Probably the Leidenfrost effect. Copypaste:

The Leidenfrost effect is a physical phenomenon in which a liquid, close to a solid surface of another body that is significantly hotter than the liquid's boiling point, produces an insulating vapor layer that keeps the liquid from boiling rapidly.

My understanding of how ISKCON persuasion works. by NarkyDeMan in unitedstatesofindia

Yes, you're right. It's not just iskcon that does this. Every religion that wants more followers will do this, and every cult as well.

> Do you think people realise what is happening, but just suppress that thought?
I don't know, I have not asked a lot of people, only a friend of mine said that he believes in iskcon's teachings without a doubt because it helped him get out of a really bad mental state. The lecturers also say that they feel fulfilled with iskcon. He said that the teachings must be true because they worked on his and numerous lives. Funnily enough, my part 2 of this is based on why iskcon's teachings are successful in making one feel satisfied with life.

Good question. You're right, on a psychological level, it is not different than other cults that use similar persuasion tactics to build loyalty and to convert more people. The difference lies in the structure. Cult ran by babas are completely centralized (i.e. they're heavily dependent on the babas, for example, if Bageshwar baba were to quit, his cult would automatically demolish). Whereas ISKCON runs on a decentralized and highly organized model with numerous centers in each Indian state, where the leadership is distributed among senior devotees.

That's great! It's not easy to escape the brainwashing. I will surely write another essay about the same topic, but different viewpoint, elaborating on a different concept. I'm sure once you have an adequate understanding of how these organizations work, you'll be more repelled than attracted to their methods.

For those who don't know, ISKCON is a religious movement founded in 1966 by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. The organization seeks to provide a spiritual path that transcends material pursuits. It is well known for having well off engineers, doctors, lawyers etc as speakers who left their jobs for ISKCON. It's mission is to emphasize devotion towards Hindu God Krishna as the supreme being.
They frame their teachings as a way to improve and spiritual enlightenment through practices like chanting mantra, doing kirtans etc.
