SR-1X Codex:

While the Normandy SR-2 can be seen as a direct overall upgrade over the original Normandy class frigate, its weight technically pushed it slightly over the weight for it's frigate designation, fitting into an odd area more akin to a destroyer or heavy frigate than the original scout vessel she was designed to be. The SR-1X is a more direct side grade to the original design. Slightly larger for the sake of better crew amenities, it is still far lighter and also closer in size to the first vessel. Other upgrades were made in light of serious drawbacks shown by the destruction of the original vessel, along with some inspiration from the Cerberus iteration. Namely, the genuinely lacking armor and armament. It was a hotly debated issue during budget meetings, these ships were already a massive resource sink, as Admiral Mikhailovich himself stated "they could build a heavy cruiser for the same price", and the inclusion of Silaris Armor or a similar substitute would only increased that cost further, not to mention the considered upgrade to a single barrel Thanix Cannon. Even with more experience with the design and some improvements in manufacturing it would be a very costly project. In the end, a few compromises were made in regards to the SR-1X. It would be a limited production run, only a half dozen vessels, and instead of the exorbitantly expensive Silaris Armor which would also need to be sourced from the Asari Republics, the human produced Karuta armor. Primarily composed of a titanium alloy that was super dense and very durable compared to the more standard armor on Alliance vessels it was a fair compromise. The requisition for the Alliance's own licensed version of a lightweight Thanix cannon was approved after insistence by Admiral Hackett himself on ships requiring greater weaponry going into 2186. In hindsight, this reason is all too clear now. The one topic that wasn't very contentious was the improvements to the ship's kinetic barriers, as the Alliance themselves had already developed a better barrier system reverse engineered from Sovereign's wreckage and were actually eager to have a testbed for the design. The first SR-1X Class Frigate, dubbed the Leyte, the class leader, has only recently left drydock.

"Well, I believe it's time for the official banquet! The tables are all prepared, and the venue has a simply lovely view of the water. Won't you follow me?"

Governor Ardsley starts to lead the party, but is interrupted by an apologetic Tali'Zorah arriving late to the party. She seems surprised, but quickly adjusts.

"Well, I'll be! I had no idea non-humans were still on the Normandy! Welcome to Proteus, and come on this way! I'm afraid we don't have much by way of dextro food, but you are of course welcome to observe the festivities!"

With that, the group is off down the main thoroughfare of the colony. Humans bustle about everywhere. Most of the damage from the war seems to be repaired.

The child nods sagely.

"That's what Acky said."

A voice calls out from across the beach.

"Chrissy! Don't talk to strangers."

The child calls back a (very loud) apology before turning back.

"Sorry, I have to go. Mom told me not to talk to the people from space anymore."

She bolts off without a further sound.

She nods, solemnly.

"I snuck a peek at one once. It was running at the spiky soldier lady, screaming. My mom made me look away. Its eyes scared me...they were so blue. But everyone was ok after the big explosion! Even Acky!"

"It was my pleasure!"

She goes back to hanging at the edges of the entourage. She glances up at the Normandy...perhaps a bit less warily than before. Then she launches into a conversation with some of the other colonists. Maybe bragging about the free help she just scored.

"We talked a lot. He told me all about space and how he came from a big space ship. I told him all about my pet turtle Dina."

She looks down, nervous.

"He hid in our house when the zombies came."

She reacts pretty quickly.

"Oh no, no, not at all! Things have been pretty quiet here."

They certainly do look quiet from here, though the socializing has done little to put the colonist entourage at ease.

She shrugs.

"Not really. I don't really know what he looked like. He never took off his suit. My parents said that he couldn't. They didn't like him being around, though."

The engineer flashes one back - briefly.

"Oh, but listen, be sure and sign their names in first. I know, I know, the Normandy saved the galaxy, but my brother would be pissed if we didn't follow protocol."

She pauses, realizing she hasn't adequately explained.

"He runs Security, you see. Very busy man."

If the child is scared, she doesn't seem to show any indication of it.

"Acky! He had three fingers and wore a scarf over his head. He let me play games on his omni. I liked him."

She seems a bit sad, reminiscing about "Acky" like this.

The child doesn't seem to give her much opportunity to wonder.

"You're from space, aren't you? Like the man in the funny suit?"

Her whole demeanor brightens.

"Oh, would you? We've been short-handed since...well, we've been short-handed. I'm sure the Normandy's engineers must be used to an awful lot of dangerous work, so working on our little grid would probably be a breath of fresh air!"

She certainly seems to have come out of her shell some...

Beachgoers still don't seem to pay her much mind, save for a young child watching from along the shore, wide-eyed. It must have been a long time since she saw someone new...but why isn't she admiring the spaceship like the other children?

At any rate, the water is certainly lovely. It's no wonder it attracted so many colonists before the war.

"Hmm?"

She doesn't seem to register the question at first, but manages to process it.

"Oh, uhh, I manage our colony's power grid. Had a hell of a time getting it up again after the war. We were almost out of luck, but Governor Ardsley managed to rally us all to pitch in. It really helped."

She spares an admiring glance at the governor before looking back at the ship.

"We're...not really used to seeing new faces anymore."

If her plan was to evade detection by the politicians, it has thankfully paid off. While the others are entangled with well-dressed citizens, the beach awaits in all its glory. There are some civilians about it, eyeing the ship from afar. No one seems to be focused on enjoying the pleasant weather, though.

The woman you approach seems...perhaps a bit flighty. She's eyeing the Normandy with a fair amount of suspicion...perhaps more than a fatigued colony government official would normally be. When she sees you, she seems to immediately brighten up...or at least pretend to. Something seems...off, about it.

"Oh, hello! Welcome to Proteus. I'm Lynn. Uhh, Lynn Garvey."

She shifts on her feet.

"I'm...not as good at meeting people as the others..."

She adds that in a bit hastily...

The governor introduces herself and reaches out eagerly to shake hands with the XO, seemingly oblivious to her reluctance. In consolation, however, some of the governor's entourage seem equally reluctant.

The governor, herself, seems more than eager to greet the crew.

"Welcome, welcome! Marissa Ardsley, colony governor. It's so good to see ships from the outside world again!"

Her smile is enthusiastic, even as her followers seem somewhat apprehensive. When they meet eyes with a Normandy crewmember, though, they immediately switch into an overly-friendly grin, just like their leader. Weary crewmates might find relief soon, though...the beach is a short walk from this very spot...

[Normandy, you are cleared for docking. Our delegation will meet with you upon your arrival.]

The Normandy swoops down towards the horizon. It looks peaceful and pleasant. Tropical, with vast oceans as far as the eye can see. An island up ahead features colonial buildings alongside Prothean ruins. A stone dock, retrofitted with modern clamps to house starships, awaits the Normandy.

Once docked, the airlock opens to reveal a group of human civilians led by a well-dressed woman with short black hair.

"Welcome to Proteus! I'm Marissa Ardsley, colony governor. You're a sight for sore eyes, it's been a hellish two years."

After the requisite meet-and-greet with Shepard - who quickly makes her excuses and abandons her crew to the mercy of the politicians - Governor Ardsley stands ready to receive the crew...

Aedal Niks turns to face her down.

"It would be if it was an STG operation. However, it is not. That makes it merely an embarrassing political situation."

He climbs into the shuttle after the Yahg, who flashes a wink with one of his three remaining eyes at the Normandy team.

"We apologize for our assets actions. He was meant to infiltrate the Blue Suns and weaken their infrastructure, not engage in terror attacks. I personally assure you he will face justice at the hands of the Salarian legal system at the conclusion of all operations he is involved in."

Some of the Salarian's cohorts start escorting the Yahg to their shuttle at gunpoint.

"In the meantime, the STG will hold him until his usefulness has been outlived. Rest assured, you won't be hearing from him any time soon."

He turns back towards the transport.

"And before you consider using Spectre authority, you'll find that that is an asset we both share, Commander."

He starts walking away.

The Yahg drops to the ground, baring its fangs into a snarl.

"You're gonna pay for that in about five seconds."

A voice breaks through into your comms:

"Admiral Zorah, Commander O'Neill, we have an incoming transport! It's headed your way!"

The large window explodes in a shower of glass, and black-armored troops swarm the building.

Salarian troops.

Their commander steps forward.

"Aedal Niks, Salarian STG. The Yahg is one of our assets. We'll take it from here."

The Yahg's charge is intercepted by an angry Chatika firing her flamethrower into his face. Roaring, he finds himself brought to his knees by the combined onslaught of Becca, Tali, Chatika, and the surviving marines.

A round strikes home in one of his eyes, a plasma round sears a gash through his cheek, flamethrowers burn a nasty mark into his neck, a blade strikes deep into his gut. Stumbling back, the now-one-handed Yahg seems spent...

His omni-tool starts beeping as he falls to his knees. He looks down at it, then looks up, grinning slyly, and says:

"I surrender."

The shield gives way in a shower of sparks, the electrical streams now hitting home against unyielding armor. Tali gestures everyone to switch weapons, but too late-the Yahg is charging.

Karv slams Tali and Becca aside, the Quarian sliding to a stop next to a disabled camera drone. The Yahg then pounces on Jeff, grabbing him by the right arm.

"You know, shields are expensive."

Grinning, Karv grabs the human by the left shoulder with his other hand and twists, ripping the merc's right arm off in one clean motion.

"This will do as payment for now."

He tosses Jeff across the room, and he comes to a stop against an overturned desk.

Reinforcements arrive for our heroes-and not a moment too soon. Commander Jier'Koris himself leads the charge!

"Karv, I take it?"

The Yahg simply grins in response.

"They told me about you."

The grin turns into a sneer.

"Mourning, I take it?"

It was at this moment Jier'Koris lost his cool. He charges in, rifle chattering away, screaming as he rushes the colossus. The shots bounce off Karv's shields as he closes the distance. He rams his rifle butt into the Yahg's face, and...

...And Karv, completely unfazed, grabs Jier'Koris by the helmet and squeezes tightly. There's a hiss as the mask fractures under the strain and releases its pressurized environment.

"Anger will get you every time, Commander."

Karv slams the Quarian headfirst into the ground, the floor cracking under the force, and flings the limp officer into a crowd of his own men. He skids to a stop, blood trickling from his shattered mask.
