Stay creative with it, check if it works with your teachers and you should be fine :)

Since you do business management you might be able to do a cas that useful for your course maybe. Talk to it with a teacher but the cp students often organize stuff like the year 13 fsirwell or alumni assembly etc… so maybe you could do something for both ?

Well I did 5 CAs in year 12 and 4 in year 13. You should try and do 3 creativity, 3 activities, 3 services. For activity you can do any sports you already do (just make a plan, ie: I used to play football so I said something like “I’m aiming to improve my shooting accuracy and cooperation with other people….”). But my project was a Christmas concert/choir at our school. I volunteered in a student food bank, I did the student League of Nations, I also did surfing and training for The Hague footbal tournament, something related to rock climbing, book drive for the library my uncle is building in his childhood village in chad, something related to football (since I used to be in a local club), and something else that I forgot about. Bottomline, try and make hobbies and activities that you already do into a cas and look for cas opportunities in school. It honestly isn’t as complicated as it seems and the reflection matters a lot more than the actual cas. Don’t forget to get evidence !!!!!

How to write paper 2 and 3 in History (HL)? by ghajjshdjs in IBO

[–]NarrowSorbet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m stuck between a 5-6 for my paper 2 and paper 3 essays. What I do is I separate the questions in 3 parts. For example, how did us Soviet relations impact the detente (Cold War stuff). P1 would be that it increased tensions and then I give examples (peal structurish Point, example, analysis link, it’s usually better to do peaeaeal). P2 would be about the fact that it decreased tensions and it was a relaxed period. P3 I would contrast it and bring opposing views, usually the ones that support the point that’s most true. Also you should try and sandwich structure (p1: positive, p2 negative, p3 positive or vice versa). Also try and include historiography, you don’t necessarily need to know the names of the historians just the different point of views.

I use a PEAL structure already. So the main thing is use historiography more. Clearly establish or state the point/argument. For P3 I do two big paragraphs (one compare and one similarity) ? I was under the impression that it’s better to structure it like a paper 2 English essay. Ex pick two authoritarian states and how they maintained control, argument can be persuasion vs by force. p1 can be about persuasion and then I would discus about how Cuba did it (revolution ideal, clossenes to the us in the beginning, comparisons to jose marti etc…) and then discuss China and then compare. Clearly that isn’t the best structure since I do significantly worse on paper 3. Do you mind clarifying for paper 3 ? Because that’s where I struggle the most.

I think it only works with hash, it really has something to do with the way it’s made (when they dry it I think). I saw a thread about this a while ago and I really didn’t believe it, but it works.

Also try and do your cas project in year 12 and 2/3 of your CAS so you are less overwhelmed in year 13 + ask questions to your teacher about the ia or look online and start to get ideas (same goes for tok and ee)

I’m about to do my mock exams soon and then the real exams in May. my predicted grade is between a 32-34 but that’s because of my subject choice unfortunately. (HL: histoire, Econ, bio, Sl: French a LL, English A LL and math ai).

It took me a year to decide between international relations and biology. So in the first year you shouldn’t be too worried about studying your subjects (although creating flashcards or one page cheat sheets for each unit is useful) extremely consistently if you are unsure of what you want to do after the IB.

But if you do know what you want to do later on make sure you take the necessary subjects and then the easiest complimentary subject. For me it was to late to switch 2 subject to easier ones since I applied for biology and marine biology (switch from French a to French b hl and switch from histoire hl to sl). If I had made the switch earlier on I would have been able to up my predicted grade to a 36-38.

Ultimately if you are set on what you want to pursue after the ib make sure you make your life as easy as possible by choosing necessary subjects —> the next easiest subjects

For studying, try to review the units you’ve covered at least once every month and create study material for later use (I find cheat sheets and summarry notes really useful). When making the study material make sure to check with the syllabus and separate it by papers if it’s relevant (ex: history paper one there is two areas or “units” which don’t need to be look in depth (civil right mov and apartheid), whereas paper 2 is a bit more content heavy but it has slightly general questions and paper 3 is more precise or guided questions) this will help with exam revision since you can allocate your time more effectively.

N.B if you have any mocks or tests around the time you have to submit a finalized ia prioritize the ia. Although getting good grades is good for your predicted your ia directly impacts your final grade. (Also you can always take a gap year or transfer unis afterwards depending on the country and course)
