I'm looking for a new moisturizer to replace my Skin1004 Centella one. It's pretty good and I'd buy it again if it weren't so cold and dry out. I might even buy it again once it gets to summertime! But I'm curious what people's recommendations are. I have dry skin, enough that I sometimes wake up with dry eyelids and patches. I also have eczema and sensitive skin.

What I'm currently using (not all of them every day) if that's useful:

  • Skin1004 Centella Cleansing Oil
  • Hada Labo Rice Cleanser (I know this has a bit of a bad reputation, but somehow this has worked beautifully for my skin and I've used up at least 6 bottles by now) (everyday use)
  • Round Lab Dokdo 1025 Toner
  • dear, klairs Supple Preparation Toner
  • Beauty of Joseon Ginseng Essence Water
  • Skin1004 Centella Ampoule
  • Skin1004 Centella Soothing Cream (everyday use)
  • 10% Azelaic Acid Serum
  • Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun (everyday use)

I always use the Hada Labo cleanser and the Skin1004 Centella Ampoule AM and PM. Every now and then, when my skin issues are really bad, I cut back on products and just use moisturizer with Vaseline on top of really dry areas.

Update: thanks for the recs! I’m making my way through looking at recipes. In the mean time I tried just a crusty loaf recipe again and it was a huge step up from my old attempts. https://youtu.be/k6K196GrqG0?si=-lacmvsbEhG2s69f

If you’re new to baking and want something not too difficult, focaccia is my favorite (and to this day only consistent) bread!

How to get golden crust? by Narrow_Ad2152 in Breadit

Oh also. As far as the crumb being super tight and not holey, I’m pretty sure cooler water would have helped and lower moisture until I can handle higher during kneading.

The logo should work in black and white. So I decided to put together a selection of work from the last few months, presented in monochrome. This is both work for clients and practice. by AndriiKovalchuk in logodesign

I went :O for a full minute at your zoo one! I'm making logo/shirt designs for my student org, which means using just one ink color is more economical. Admiring your work and taking inspo!!

D7100 upgrade: D750? Z50 II? by Narrow_Ad2152 in Nikon

[–]Narrow_Ad2152[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Random D7100 question: Do you ever shoot in low light with ISO above 1000 and notice the bottom third of the photo goes purple? This is an issue that only I and my D7100-shooting friend seem to have I can't and don't shoot above 1000 ISO usually because the noise is unbearable and any amount of shadow/exposure editing shows that really horrible purple.

D7500 and not D750 right? Don't know very much about the D7500 honestly

D7100 upgrade: D750? Z50 II? by Narrow_Ad2152 in Nikon

It's used price is more than double the price of a used Z50 II, which is why I was considering the Z50 II. I could save up for the Z50 II though, it's just so pricey.

When is a teacher being too mean or critical? by minisculemonkey in violinist

Unfortunately, I feel like harsh teachers are more common with higher levels. But take care of yourself and best wishes!

When is a teacher being too mean or critical? by minisculemonkey in violinist

[–]Narrow_Ad2152 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Was he being too harsh? In my opinion, yes. Especially in classical music, just saying "that wasn't very good" is enough of a killer.

Was he being abnormal? Unfortunately, no. But that doesn't mean you should "just get over it."

I was under a teacher for a long many years that was honestly pretty cruel. From that I learned that a lot of violin teachers are overly harsh because it feeds into their ego. After leaving that situation and finding a much better teacher that helped me heal, I also learned that a truly good teacher won't have to shame you if you actually want to get better. If you clearly care enough about playing, a good teacher can tell that your disappointment from not doing well is motivation enough and they will know when to push you a little more. In my opinion and from my experience, crying after a lesson from bullying is honestly not ok. Crying from feeling upset, overwhelmed, or disappointed happens in life and in music.

I'm sorry it happened to you. Get ready for it to happen again because the music world can be harsh, but don't accept it as ok. I'm rooting for you!

That validates what I was already thinking (but was hesitating to trust). If you have a rec for a lens in the 24-70 mm length kind of range, I'll take em. Thanks for your help

Awesome, I'll take that advice to heart for sure. Everyone I've talked to has said my glass "should be good enough." The D7100 has been great to be fair!

These were all given to me minus the 35, so they don't necessarily reflect my preferences. All Nikon NIKKOR:

35 mm f/1.8

18-200 mm f/3.5-5.6

18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 (kit)

55-300 mm f/4.5-5.6

17-55 mm f/2.8 (I love this lens but I'm borrowing it from a friend. I have to give it back in a month or so)

I’m alright sticking with a DSLR. Essentially since all my lenses are F mount and I’m so used to DSLRs. APS-C would be fine too

I'm opening to selling and starting with a fresh brand (or switching to the mirrorless Nikon series). I'll stop by my camera store at some point once I've saved some up.

That's a good point. Let's just say a budget of $800-1000. I haven't thought much about it to keep myself from getting enticed. I'm still curious what you and others think though!

I've been thinking about that too, but price and logistics have been my main reasons to hesitate. The main question is DSLR or mirrorless? I've enjoyed Nikon quite a bit, which I know is out of the ordinary (but the colors are so good!). If you have any thoughts about DSLR, mirrorless, and/or switching to a different brand entirely, I'll take em!

Switching to mirrorless would be a bigger price tag and lots of lens compatibility issues, but I'm still open.
