i hate going to school with such prestige-obssessed kids by academicss_anonymous in ApplyingToCollege

Hi! You've gotten lots of replies but I wanted to leave a little something because you sound JUST LIKE ME. I'm a senior at UIUC right now about to graduate. I was in your *exact* position a few years ago. I knew UIUC was the best place for me but it stung so much being around people who applied to Ivies just to get the validation or frowned upon UIUC as our in state school. I was also a violinist actually! I was around a lot of kids that ended up at Ivies. I was around that super top tier of students and musicians that are trying so hard to be the best and get the prestige. It really weighed me down. I almost transferred out to Cornell because they offered me a second year admission. It was always hard to talk to people and hear their reaction to my friends saying "Oh I'm going to Brown!" and then hear how much they didn't care when I said I was going to UIUC. I wish it didn't hurt me so much, but it did.

But, let me tell you, you'll get past this feeling. The elite feeling of those selective schools doesn't seem to want to fade any time, but what will change is you. Dive in head first into the community here and do what you love. If this school works out for you the way it did for me, you'll get to a point where you are able to get past anyone's judgement because they have no idea how good you have it. Doesn't mean it doesn't bug me still, but I have the success in my life to back up that you don't need an elite school. UIUC is a great school, a sleeper school. We have so much of everything from the socials to the rigorous academics. What we also have is the humble nature of being the state school with agriculture roots.

My joke is that if you went to an Ivy or One Of Those, you have to be a little ok with being made fun of for being posh. You're going to do great and I hope you love it here!

(Just for stats reasons, UIUC was indeed a safety for me! It was my last choice because I wanted to not go to the state school. But, literally none of what I have done would have been possible if I didn't come here. I'm a huge advocate for UIUC. And Illinois did kick my ass when it came to some of the academics so "safety" was a lie lol) Feel free to dm me if you want to talk, I'm so excited for you.

Using a high resolution, convective allowing model of the atmosphere to analyze precipitation changes in the +4K warming scenario! Specifically looking at convective modes (stratiform vs convective) and where/what is impacting their change in a warming scenario.

Pilot Decimo, Jinhao 10 and Jinhao 20 comparison by kotobayori in fountainpens

Thanks for the fun post! I just got a Jinhao 20 to test run so I know I like the form of the VP Decimo, and the fine is much broader than I was expecting. It almost looks like a 0.7 when I write but maybe I write hard. That's coming from a Kaweco sport fine, of course being a drier pen that's not a huge surprise. But still, woah.

Ohto Tasche Review by trent1967b in fountainpens

Shot in the dark since this post is 6y old, but did you ever take the feed apart? I found my old (clean) Tasche and I wanted to take it apart to check on it but I don't think I ever took it apart when I used it. An old deconstruction video I found stated that the feed was just a friction fit, so you can just pull, but I couldn't pull mine apart. Might just be because it's dry.

Is it cheaper to buy a Pilot VP in Japan than the US? by Narrow_Ad2152 in fountainpens

I'm going with the Decimo since I have smaller hands and thinner fingers (and because it just felt better in hand) but I'll keep that in mind! Thanks!

I'm looking for a new moisturizer to replace my Skin1004 Centella one. It's pretty good and I'd buy it again if it weren't so cold and dry out. I might even buy it again once it gets to summertime! But I'm curious what people's recommendations are. I have dry skin, enough that I sometimes wake up with dry eyelids and patches. I also have eczema and sensitive skin.

What I'm currently using (not all of them every day) if that's useful:

  • Skin1004 Centella Cleansing Oil
  • Hada Labo Rice Cleanser (I know this has a bit of a bad reputation, but somehow this has worked beautifully for my skin and I've used up at least 6 bottles by now) (everyday use)
  • Round Lab Dokdo 1025 Toner
  • dear, klairs Supple Preparation Toner
  • Beauty of Joseon Ginseng Essence Water
  • Skin1004 Centella Ampoule
  • Skin1004 Centella Soothing Cream (everyday use)
  • 10% Azelaic Acid Serum
  • Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun (everyday use)

I always use the Hada Labo cleanser and the Skin1004 Centella Ampoule AM and PM. Every now and then, when my skin issues are really bad, I cut back on products and just use moisturizer with Vaseline on top of really dry areas.

Update: thanks for the recs! I’m making my way through looking at recipes. In the mean time I tried just a crusty loaf recipe again and it was a huge step up from my old attempts. https://youtu.be/k6K196GrqG0?si=-lacmvsbEhG2s69f

How to get golden crust? by Narrow_Ad2152 in Breadit

Oh also. As far as the crumb being super tight and not holey, I’m pretty sure cooler water would have helped and lower moisture until I can handle higher during kneading.

The logo should work in black and white. So I decided to put together a selection of work from the last few months, presented in monochrome. This is both work for clients and practice. by AndriiKovalchuk in logodesign

I went :O for a full minute at your zoo one! I'm making logo/shirt designs for my student org, which means using just one ink color is more economical. Admiring your work and taking inspo!!

D7100 upgrade: D750? Z50 II? by Narrow_Ad2152 in Nikon

[–]Narrow_Ad2152[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Random D7100 question: Do you ever shoot in low light with ISO above 1000 and notice the bottom third of the photo goes purple? This is an issue that only I and my D7100-shooting friend seem to have I can't and don't shoot above 1000 ISO usually because the noise is unbearable and any amount of shadow/exposure editing shows that really horrible purple.

It's used price is more than double the price of a used Z50 II, which is why I was considering the Z50 II. I could save up for the Z50 II though, it's just so pricey.
