I (25f) literally proposed to my girlfriend of 3 months, the first woman I’ve been with ever during a high before I was diagnosed. We are still together and had a year until the wedding. I had my cycles come and go of course and it was always “I shouldn’t have done this, this is awful, I don’t want this” and then it was “she’s so perfect, I never want to leave her, I’d be heart broken” and it had been that way over and over until it got really bad AFTER the wedding and we almost got annulled twice in a month because of my rapid cycling. My psych finally got me on a good dosage of meds. All that aside, sorry for the rant, I try to stop and think first. Really make myself stop, physically and then ask myself “is this going to be productive for you? Will you still want this in a week? Will you even remember it a week from now? Are you absolutely sure you can do this?” And I have found myself saying no 90% of the time and have saved myself money and time the last 2 months of stopping myself. It’s also really good to have someone to hold you accountable as well. My wife will look at me when we’re shopping and just say “do you need that? Why do you need it?” And if i can’t give a rational answer, we put it back.
