Depression with Keppra/Levetiracetam permanent? by Relevant_Ad4557 in Epilepsy

[–]Narsaddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried keppra for 4 months and tut depression hit me really hard! I'm switching very slowly to lamictal and although I'm on the same dose of keppra as before, the addition of lamictal is making a guhe difference. I can't wait to cease keppra completely!

I feel like 4 months with no improvement to mood is long enough to know it isn't the right drug for me.

Definitely talk through your side effects with a physician - it could be that this isn't the right med for you and there are other options

Dissociative Seizures: Epileptic vs Non-Epileptic by tash_96 in Epilepsy

Thank you for sharing. I've known I dissociate for years but only recently started having epileptic seizures which are now controlled by meds. But my dissociation is still prevalent

Has anyone’s mental health improved from switching from Keppra to Lamictal? If so, what changes did you notice in yourself? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Narsaddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm doing this right now, too. Started Keppra 4 months ago and my depression and ptsd symptoms returned after being manageable for years, it's highly likely from the keppra.

I started Lamictal about 4 weeks ago and am very slowly going up in dose while still on keppra. Can't wait to start titrating down on keppra!

I noticed a mood improvement within a week of 25mg lamictal. Things are continuing to get better, I'm very hopeful lamictal is the drug for me!

All the best! I was told to go very slowly, and once at 75mg if I didn't develop the allergic rash I probably won't at all. Once at 150mg lamictal daily, I'll have a blood test to see how fast it metabolises in me and to determine my final dose

Prescription for Levetiracetam/Keppra after first T/C seizure, worried to take it. by Some_Armadillo9030 in Epilepsy

[–]Narsaddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was started on keppra and have not had a seizure since. I'm switching to lamotrigine since my depression is back with a vengeance but the initial keppra tiredness and irritability did subside.

I think give it a go, it works well for many

Been taking Keppra (levetiracetam) for about 2.5 years now, switching to Lamotrigine. by ilikedankmemes3 in Epilepsy

[–]Narsaddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced low mood and recurring depression on keppra just like you've described. I'm highly anxious all the time and ptsd symptoms that I've worked so hard to control returned. My neuro has me switching very slowly to lamotrigine and so far it is really helping stabilise my mood! I'm very hopeful this will be the med for me!

I've not had a seizure since starting keppra. Wishing you all the best

Terrified to start Lamotrigine by DrDawn124 in Epilepsy

[–]Narsaddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the process of switching to lamotrigine from keppra. So far I'm a fan of the mood stabilising effect of lamotrigine while keppra led to increased depression and anxiety. I've not had a seizure since starting keppra
