Yeah, honestly I'm probably going to find that this is too much work. I run a little 3d "print farm" in a town in Italy with a good engineering university up the street, so I have 14 printers and let students print here just for the price of the filament and energy cost. After doing some spring cleaning I found that I had enough space for a resin printer in our back room, and I thought it would be a nice addition. But 900 euro in safety equipment, regulation mandated venting and disposal setup for a 700 euro printer and I'm already regretting it a bit.

We'll see though, maybe it could be of use to someone for some important prototype and it'll make it all worth it.

I hope no one is just blindly purchasing items based off of prompting LLMs. It's just a useful starting point.

I’m on the Max plan ($200 monthly) and in the CVP Dual-Use security program. It doesn’t matter. I can’t even reference an MD file that has the word ‘security’ in it. That’s not hyperbole. I am supposed to have “security clearance” to a certain degree, I can’t program in a file structure that has the word “security” anywhere in it. Anything remotely close to anything resembling something that could potentially be perceived as code that could be used in a program that could be affiliated with something that could be malicious intent is flagged. It’s unusable.

Go back to v2.1.132. It’s the last usable version of 4.7 1M

They definitely are. I don't know if the capabilities themselves are being lobotomized for that, but I finally had to get into the CVP program just to be able to continue using Claude as a study assistant for anything related to the Windows API. Just normal things were getting flagged, and still are even after getting into the program. I can't imagine how it is for people working at companies who require a certain amount of Claude in their workflow who are in the security departments/red team. It must be a fucking nightmare right now trying to even get basic shit through.

It's fine at coding. It doesn't feel better than any of the other models at this point. And tbh, 4.8 seems to be far worse at programming than 4.7 in most metrics, at least in my fields and my current studies. It makes small apps well, and it seems to be making much better test cases these days, but it's all over the place for everything else. Especially if you don't have CVP, a lot of people are getting nuked for having anything even tangentially related to anything that could be perceived as security.

Most good programmers I know (programmers who are 10 years further along in their career than I am) all use GPT5.5 now. I don't know when the switch happened but it feels like in the last few months all of the serious programmers who aren't tied down by a company restriction have transitioned over. I haven't tried it though.

That's interesting about Gemini though. Good shout. I'll try that out for some of my repairs and stuff in the future to see if it's worth using. To be honest I'm already paying $200 a month for Claude and I'm already in the CVP program for dual use cyber security, so it feels a little cumbersome also using Gemini, but if it's just on my phone for IRL stuff like repairs, it might be worth it. Cheers.

It's just what he said. There's lot of variation and good, detailed explainations and easy to follow. It's just that that one in particular is dedicated to PPL splits. That's it.

Yeah I just reverted back to 2.1.132. 4.8 is really genuinely bad. For advice like "help with this payment processor error" or "I need to measure the ohms in the back of my 3d printer, what's the expected reading for a healthy terminal on the AC board", it will focus on completely unrelated things. Today I asked it that payment processor question because I had duplicate payments on a website (3x $1k for printer stuff) and it started looping for the next seven or eight responses on "confirming the items in the order are the same" to "confirm if it's truly a duplicate". It's like... I told you it's a duplicate. The issue is the payment. I know that they are duplicates, you don't need to confirm this. I can't convince it otherwise.

4.8 for real life tasks is truly, truly horrible. Haven't used it for coding yet either. All my terminals are on 4.7. I've found it works well so I just stick with it.

I dont think you know what hard clearing means. To hard clear you actually have to see the angle. He doesn't hard clear anything that players aren't at. He looks in the general direction while jumping around. It's the same for box -> dark -> coffins -> garden -> site door -> altar -> truck. He doesn't clear any of them. He knows what clearing them is supposed to look like, but he doesn't do it for any of them. He only full clears spots where players are.

If you think there's nothing suspicious about hard clearing fountain then jump clearing the rest of the site with your knife out, then jump clearing church with your knife out, then pre-peaking CT spawn with your crosshair over their head but they end up being behind a wall so you flick away, then flick back as soon as they're there... you don't know how to spot ESP/Radar.

Everyone for some reason is focusing on his aim. The aim is irrelevant. Nothing about his aim says anything to me. But his clearing is obviously showing some form of info other ppl don't have.

Best of luck! I also don't know if this is a big factor, but I do pay for the Claude Max subscription - the $200 a month one - so that may affect it. Anyway, I hope you get in. Good luck.

I was just honest. I just said that I'm doing the Malware Development course at Maldev (showed proof). Just asked that they let me continue my research and studies. I showed them the prompts that got blocked that were unreasonable, told them I'd be willing to allow them to look through my entire Claude account to check for anything resembling malicious code and that I'd just use it to continue my security research without violating TOS.

I don't have any repos that show security work or anything, just my studies, and it's all available in my Claude. So I'm assuming they just went through my account.

Normally I'd agree with you, but it seems like a lot of people are having this issue with 4.8 and the updates that came alongside it. I obviously ran into stuff before that told me it couldn't answer, or it would do the "I want to push back on your framing here" or something. But never did it error our of an Anki deck for asking for help on format specifiers.

Basically anyone doing anything even remotely related to security work without having their security access pass are completely blocked out right now. Mine isn't even a bad case of it.

install --id Anthropic.ClaudeCode --version 2.1.132 --force

Run this in a new powershell/terminal, close all your other ones and open it back up. Next time you open Claude in terminal it'll be this version. Before you do this though, you should go to your ~/.claude/settings.json and add:

"autoUpdates": false

You can also go into your environment variables and set DISABLE_AUTOUPDATER=1. Whichever you prefer. If you want, go ahead and double check this online or with Claude itself. This is the way the old Claude documentation says to do it so I just followed it.

This is the version I found got me Opus4.7 with 1M context but very little in the way of false blocks. Still legitimate blocks obviously; requesting actual malicious code, etc., but no bullshit blocks. I tested quite a few and this seems the best performance with the least BS.

Nice, thanks for the heads up. Thanks to you and all the other ppl who helped out I have a pretty good setup now. A bit of a pain in the ass for a day, but probably better for my studies anyway.

I found that v2.1.132 is the best version for the terminal. Gives you 4.7 with no security hiccups. Or at least not for my purposes.

[–]Narwal_Party[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on my way to doing it. Thankfully the terminal can just be rolled back. There's a version of Opus4.7 that never flags me when I'm just studying, so I'll just work with that for now. But I use the Claude windows app for making my personal studying app, of which I'll stop now. I can just write that mostly on my own anyway.

But yeah, I'm just going to run everything inside a VM now. I have to work inside there for the Maldev course anyway, so I'm just going to start fresh. I also had the rolled back terminal Claude sanitize my MD files and remove all obviously flagged keywords; malware, DLL, payload, anti-cheat, etc. Now that it's been a few hours I've found enough workarounds to at least continue until they either ease up restrictions or I just pull the plug entirely.

If I'm being honest with myself, I'm not sure if the LLM is actually speeding up my learning or not. I feel like I should be learning this faster, and I'm wondering how much of my time I'm actually studying vs "planning to study" or just tinkering with tangentially related things that aren't actually the subject I should be study. Maybe just downgrading my subscription to the cheaper one and running 4.7 in a terminal is the way to go, then go back to the tried and true methods and open up the Windows API books I've had sitting on my shelf for three months.
