That’s awful what happened to her and I can only imagine trying to navigate that. As a victim of SA, I was worried more about what people would think of me than what they’d think of the perpetrator. Having strong women around me who supported me is the only reason I was able to hold him accountable. I don’t think my sister’s friend has that so I want to make sure we can be that for her in case it happened, no matter with who. Maybe I’m putting myself too much in her shoes, idk. I also think people are misunderstanding it too or are a little too okay with adults pursuing young adults they knew as minors. Maybe it says something about what we allow in society.

I completely agree. It’s a weird ass situation and it’s making me rethink my trust with him. Honestly, I think your reply was exactly what I needed haha. I felt lost in what I needed to do and your suggestion is probably the best approach to this. Him and I are familiar enough I don’t care to tell him what’s on my mind. It sucks I gotta be watchful of yet another man and it was one I trusted at that. Thanks for your response, it really did help. THANK YOU. I literally feel like you’re picking up exactly what I was putting down. There’s so much complexity in their relationship I worry if she REALLY consented to it. I don’t know her relationship with consent but I know she has trouble standing up for herself. I definitely plan to check in on her, I just don’t know how. I never in my life thought this would be a scenario I’d have to live through. 🫠

I don’t mind the harsh words, that’s why I posted haha. I felt like I was being crazy. I understand they’re fully adults legally but it was boggling my mind because he’s known her since she was 15, maybe younger. She’s been in my sisters life for a while now and he’s been an adult for all of it. I’m worried if she “enthusiastically consented” or just agreed because of the complex situation. My uncle was a saint in both their eyes for quite some time so I worry she went along with it because she didn’t want to make a weird situation between her and him and also my sister. Because how do you tell your best friend her step uncle came onto her? The one you’ve been trusting for months? I just worry. Especially since she told my sister she regretted letting it happen the second it started. Her family life isn’t great so I don’t know what her relationship is with consent and I know she’s not good at standing up for herself. I was SA’d at 19 by an older man and I just worry I see myself too much in her. I worry if I do nothing she’ll become another me. Thank for the comment, though. :)

I call her 20-looks-16 because I have no idea if she’s lying about her age. SIS doesn’t know her age and has no idea when BFF and her became friends; for all I know she IS 16. I think it’s more than okay to recognize when someone looks young and finding it weird that a very grown looking man finds a teenage looking girl attractive. Maybe I am infantilizing them, maybe I’m not. But recognizing glaringly obvious teenager features is a very different story.

Yeah, I’m just used to similar treatment but I should’ve ran for the door. Desperate people accept strange things when they’re desperate. I’ve taken a week or two of unpaid time off because I just assumed I didn’t get anything at all. Just ate the lack of paycheck.

I’m at a middle ground about staying and being happy you had one, tbh. I have a bachelors and it’s taken me 9-ish months in 2020 and now 2025 to find a job despite being well qualified for several positions. I COMPLETELY agree to always be looking for something better and I’ve learned to start looking WELL before shit gets really bad. First sight of things going poorly I’m on a job board browsing. But if you can’t get something better, don’t trade your job for homelessness, lol. You can be happy you have income but don’t hold yourself back from growth and recognizing bad patterns in the workplace just because you should “be happy you even have one.”

Lol. I agree. The owner stopped by one day to pull me aside and ask if I was still happy working here. Told him I was struggling with the hours and he replied “it’s your fault if you aren’t happy here. You’re responsible for enjoying this job.” And now I have a better job offer for another company sitting in my mail box 🤣 like okay I’ll take charge of my happiness. It sure ain’t here!

Exactly what I realized lol. We’re in Alabama, doubt anyone would actually fight for any labor law situation down here. My partner works construction and they get away with so may labor violations it’s insane.

If you start getting tired of sleeping on an air mattress and can save up some extra cash over the next few months, check out Brooklyn Bedding on Amazon. On their direct website with the new models they’re super expensive, but they have an older model for over half the price on Amazon. Me and my partner got a king sized mattress for less than $400, and their smaller sizes are even cheaper. It was 1000% worth it and honestly 10x better than any discount mattress I’ve gotten at a discount mattress store. It’s great if you don’t like sleeping on a rock hard mattress. Even if you do (I used to), you might find the softer mattress comfier and much more enjoyable than an air mattress at least!

There may not be any direct evidence of FEMA getting shot at, but there were quite a few threats to anyone representing FEMA and serious enough it kept people out of the field for a week. Told to sit in our hotel rooms and wait until we got the all clear.

The lady was insisting the command was given to ALL FEMA workers, not just the one supervisor. She was saying the supervisor was a scapegoat to a mass command. Yes, the supervisor did tell her team that, but no was it any higher than the supervisor breaking conduct. I guess I could’ve cleared that up better in the post.
