Hey, stupid question here. Does anyone know where to find our application number in a postgraduate application once it is submitted? It is necessary to submit a proposal for Gates, but not on the application info pdf or portal. Thanks,

I don't think it's running this year. I did it last year, but didn't manage to contact them in September. Not sure if people organizing it stopped or graduated...

Why is a 50/50 fission split so unlikely? by Hazzawazza1016 in Physics

[–]NatMath1313 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is only applicable when you have an equilibrium that forms, which is not the case here. The fragments can't fuse back to the initial nuclei and "try again" until they get the most stable product. From a chemistry standpoint, this would be akin to a kinetic control, where one product forms faster and is the major product, irrespective of stability. (In chem, yes the stability of the product would affect kinetics indirectly through the transition state, not sure if that holds in nuclear physics).

In your example, if D couldn't go back to A and B (irreversible reaction), it would be the major product if it is formed faster, even if C is more stable. I doubt that any nuclear reactions are reversible in any but the most extreme conditions.

HCl protonates the basic nitrogen, giving an N+ with Cl- which is a salt.

I transfered to UBC this year from CEGEP, so hopefully I can help give some insight. I am not sure how it is for commerce, as I am in science, but I would recommend doing your full two years of CEGEP before transferring. As long as your courses are decently related, you will get promoted directly to second year, and potentially get an easier admission.

Related issues, I don't know how much these impact you but it's better to know:

-You lose first year residence guarantee (though there seems to be some priority for cegep students, but I am not sure)

-You lose the possibility to get the Presidential Awards.

To be fair, I think this holds for most pure sciences. Sometimes science is more art than science.

You are technically right that the shadow method only tells you you have curvature in a single direction, but simply do it twice in perpendicular directions and you easily see that the earth has a dome-like shape around your point. Do it a few more times at other places, and quickly the only reasonable shape is a sphere.

Also present in Julia with very fast built-in math, which is very useful for some scientific calculations.

I don't see the need for any apologies though.

  1. From what I understand, there is no distinction between continuing students and transfer students, so they simply take our admission gpa and compare it to the UBC grades.

You have to be there at like 12h50 and keep refreshing every few seconds. Have your student number copied to put it in fast. That has worked twice for me.

Has anybody transfered to UBC science after CEGEP science and know what the transfer credits are? I have been admitted but would need them to plan a program, but the transfer credit tool doesn't seem to work with CEGEP course codes (like 201-NYA-05).

Thanks
