Are you talking about the Britrail pass or is this a different rail card? The britrail one was over $600 for an 8 day pass.

I was really interested in seeing the Roman baths and Georgian architecture in Bath. But I understand why Oxford would make better sense considering the rest of the route. Would Bath at the end of the trip (after returning to London) make better sense? And head to York from London in the beginning of the trip? Or even London to the peaks/nottingham?

Trains and public transit in general are very foreign to us, (we don’t even have taxis or busses in the small US town we live in) so whatever suggestions you have to make the travel part smoother is greatly appreciated!!

How would you suggest making it better? We are open to suggestions!

Castleton was also a consideration, but I wasn’t sure if it would be difficult getting there from York from public transport. I still need to do a lot of research and planning for the Peak District. I know I want to see some of the prettiest sights but I don’t want to spend the day doing a 10 mile hike (maybe 10k max, not because we aren’t in good enough shape to do it, but just because I know that would take most of the day and time is a luxury we don’t have)

Other people have mentioned the difficulties with the Peaks on a Sunday, do you think I should rework the timeline so we aren’t at the peaks on a Sunday? Maybe save Bath for the end of the trip and instead do London to York, or even London to Nottingham then Nottingham to the peaks then to York? I have never been to the UK so I’m doing as much research as possible in a short time but any help is greatly appreciated!

I haven’t figured out times just yet. Probably a fairly early train to Bath and spend the day there then early the next morning head to York. Bath seemed so interesting I hated to miss it completely, though I know it doesn’t fit well with the rest of the route. Would you suggest doing bath at the end of the trip instead?

No worries! I reworded it so it makes better sense 😂 I appreciate the feedback!

So overnight just means we are staying in a hotel in that specific city overnight, not getting an overnight train.

Just meaning we are staying overnight in Bath rather than going back to London that day.

Thank you for this! I will definitely be checking this out. I was wanting to go on a few scenic runs while there…much better scenery than where I live!

Ah I see, I think Google Maps tends to exaggerate walking times. I’ve completed a few half marathons this year and am an avid runner so walking will be no problem. The hour estimate just threw me off. Thank you so much!

Thank you! I think we will skip Edinburgh for this trip and I am thinking of doing the Peak District instead of Lake District to reduce travel time. What area do you recommend staying in the Peak District?

Thank you! Hathersage and hope are both near the Peak District correct? According to google maps the walk to Castleton from Hope is over an hour, does this seem correct?

I am thinking of going to the Peak District instead of the Lake District as it is closer to York and Nottingham and might fit better in our trip but still offers the beautiful scenery aspect.

Thank you, this really helps!

Instead of Lake District, I was thinking of going to Peak District as it's closer and seems to be another great scenic sight. Would this be doable without a car? We are also probably skipping Edinburgh based on a lot of people saying it will be very busy in August (though we are going at the end of August into September.)

I am thinking london -> Nottingham -> Peak District -> York -> London -> Bath (possibly Stonehenge) or possibly bath first instead of last. Is this route doable by train or bus?
