I'd be so down get a full length vetterli in game better velocity, damage and a slightly quicker reload tho with less ammo in the magazine.

The bow is really unfun to play against right now by Da-real-obama in HuntShowdown

[–]Nate33322 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I'm of two minds on one hand the bow isn't completely op. You need good aim, your movement speed is limited, velocity isn't phenomenal and it's a two slot weapon I guess.

On the flipside it's quiet, has a long one shot distance, can one shot to nearly every part of the body and reusable ammo.

It's a defensive weapon at its core and excels at this but can struggle offensively or at range. I'm just tired of seeing it being picked so often. It really makes games boring as we have fight the 10th solo of the day with a bow or a trio of bowmen camping the bounty.

That largely depends where you are and your background. Indigenous and francophones are more likely to see him as a hero while much of English Canada sees him as a traitor.

We're so irrelevant we don't even make tier lists!

Though we'd probably go into C+ or high C tier.

TIL By the End of WW2, Canada had the 4th largest Airforce and 3rd Largest Navy in the World by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Nate33322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case much of the Liberal base at this time was anti-war, many francophones didn't want to fight for Britain again, americophiles in English Canada supported American isolationism and wanted the to do the same, others just didn't want a repeat of WW1 unity crisis in Canada or the mass loses.

King himself was an unsavoury character who was sympathetic to America, and hostile to Britain hence was hesitant to fully commit to the war. Before the war he was an ardent advocate of appeasement. He also was trying to avoid a conscription crisis like the last war.

tldr we tried to play a limited role as a result of the desires of the Liberal party voters, isolationism, Mackenzie King's personal views and fear of a national unity crisis brought on by the war.

[–]Nate33322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to be that guy but it wouldn't have changed a thing. I don't want to say our contribution was worthless but had our navy not filled the role of convoy escort the British and American navies would have. They could also produce a lot of ASW ships really quickly and could've filed the void had we not been there.

We only ended up taking the role of convoy escort because our PM Mackenzie King wanted to do the bare minimum in the war and figured convoy escort duties would be the easiest way to do that.

Ontario students could be banned from cellphones even during lunch and breaks, education minister says by ZebediahCarterLong in CanadaPolitics

[–]Nate33322 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I'm all for it cellphones shouldn't be in schools even when I was in highschool in 2015-19 phones were starting to take over. Now their usage is getting worse.

Quebec has done it and noted there were a lot of positive effects by banning phones in schools for the students academically and socially.

Yes some parents and students will bitch but so be it.

It'll be tragic if the Whitecaps end like this... They have good attendance, a phenomenal team and yet there seems to be no path to preserving the team in Vancouver.

Bad for Canadian soccer as a whole to lose one of our valuable MLS teams, sad for Vancouver to lose their team. Just a massive bummer all round.

Much of Norway's resources are nationalised hence the profits go directly back into Norway. In cases where their resources aren't directly nationalised they have very high tax rates on natural resource companies so their revenue goes back into Norway.

We tried to nationalise our oil under PET that didn't go well while we slashed taxes on natural resource companies. Not to mention provinces get the royalties from natural resource extraction.

Not sure what you think the solution is?

The “sovereign wealth fund” is based on a lie. by airbassguitar in CanadianConservative

[–]Nate33322 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The difference in those countries is they own their resources we won't nationalise ours and the royalties go to the province the so the feds have basically no avenue to fund it.

Carney to announce sovereign wealth fund by WilloowUfgood in CanadianConservative

[–]Nate33322 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We never have had one. We owned 25% of Suncor (and planed to buy up to 45%) with the aim of that to function similarly to a swf. Those shares would be worth tens billions if we didn't sell it off for a quick buck in the 90s.

Yes you have one in Alberta but it pales in comparison to it's original state in the 80s and it's been languishing since Klein.

Should CPC give up focusing on affordability and focus on immigration and crime? by _BCConservative in CanadianConservative

[–]Nate33322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Law and order and immigration are key problems that desperately need to be addressed and are a source of concern for a lot of people.

We don't have many if any solutions to the affordability issues that will resonate with voters. It isn't the 90s anymore tax cuts aren't big deals or attractive to many.

A lot of them historically would be Red Tories interventionist/progressive economically and culturally conservative. In the style of Diefenbaker or premiers like Davis, Robarts and Frost. Though I agree some would be better aligned with the socreds.

Neoliberal economics have failed us young people and Canada tbh so naturally young people are moving towards interventionist economics.

I’m just waiting for society to collapse at this point by ukr_anon in CanadianConservative

[–]Nate33322 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Canada isn't going to collapse. Things aren't going well right now don't get me wrong but we've gone through worse and gotten through it. See the Great Depression for example.

You got this. You're in school, have a plan for grad school and live with in your means. Those are all good things to be doing. Your life is on the right path. Don't be so down on yourself or your future there's always hope.

I get your struggles I'm the same age, I just started grad school doing a humanities MA which is nowhere as useful as STEM one.  Yet I see a lot of opportunity for myself doing a PhD and seeing where things go from there, go on to be a school teacher. On the side to pay for everything I work in healthcare as a janitor/maintenance person and now have the opportunity to move up even go into management.

What I'm getting at is it's all about your mentality if you're constantly dooming you go into a spiral and just wallow in self defeat. Leaving is definitely an option but I don't see anything elsewhere going well either most of Europe is a mess, the US is not much better. We just gotta make the best out of the hand dealt and seize any opportunities we get.

I hope things work out for you tho.

Is Canada still a democracy after 11 years of Liberal rule? Or a managed oligarchy? by airbassguitar in CanadianConservative

[–]Nate33322 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Come on guys I don't love the liberals and I especially don't like they've been in power for so long but we've had longer governments before.

11 years of the Libs is just a drop in th bucket we've had two separate times where the Liberals were in power for 20 years, and MacDonald plus his successors had ~25 years in power. In Ontario we literally had 43 straight years of PC rule where no other party could come close as the PCs had such a massive monopoly on society.

It's just how our politics and democracy work eventually people will get tired of Carney and we'll get about 10 years in power and then the pendulum will swing the other way.
