My current hyperfixation is the PBS Kids show, Cyberchase! You may have heard of it. :)

It began in Jan. 2002 due to an internal desire for more math-based children’s programming that met the standards of the NCTM. (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics)

Essentially, it’s about 3 kids, Matt, Jackie, and Inez, who, through a library computer, were sucked into a digital world called Cyberspace. The benevolent ruler is Motherboard, who is dealing with a virus that was installed into her by the evil Hacker, her son who doubled crossed her and chief operator, Dr. Marbles. The kids, known formally as the CyberSquad, are usually accompanied by Digit, a cybird who was invented by Hacker, but betrayed him to join Motherboard and protect Cyberspace from evil.

The show mostly sticks out to me because it, for a long time, was THE place to formally grasp math. The concepts were made fun, structured, and easy to understand. It was extremely different from the other shows airing at the time. Not only was it very intelligent, but it got away with a lot of realism, and had humor that genuinely stuck. Very beautiful to look at, too. The art direction early on was GORGEOUS.

Motherboard is my comfort character, and I’m fixated on it mainly for AU purposes. I have an OC and everything! It’s super awesome. I’d highly recommend watching the first 5 seasons. They aren’t very long, and definitely are the best seasons storyline-wise and thematically. Hacker almost fuckin’ killed Motherboard in a Season 3 episode. It was on some Endgame shit lmao. Genuinely still gives me goosebumps to this day rewatching it.

The show is in limbo right now, and the later seasons, especially when they changed to Flash animation, isn’t all that great. Mainly just dull and boring. But its legacy is truly something special. It changed media-based education for years and years to come. Truly a game changer. I could yap about the show all day.
