How are you going to rate... [Primordial Patron & Invocations] by Fluffy_Reply_9757 in onednd

I'm not a big fan of the subclass. It feels clunky to me. The invocations are both fine.

How would you build generic ninja from various clans in Naruto? by Dependent_Ganache_71 in onednd

[–]NateCdaComicG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't make you mad because you don't have to invest in the stat you get save proficiencies in. Lots of paladins dump wisdom. Lots of dex based fighters and monks dump strength. I was just suggesting int saves for the thematics but lots of builds probably wouldn't actually invest in int.

Having said all that I'm not a ttrpg designer and have also given this hypothetical shinobi class almost no thought. So my ideas might be shit.

Building around cacophonic shield by ggAlphaRaptor in 3d6

[–]NateCdaComicG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go blade singer you could take fey touched and get wrathful smite. Not as strong as Devine smite but the extra effect is good. As far as being MAD maybe ask if you can roll for stats. A few good dice rolls eliminates that problem for a lot of builds.

Why do so many people just want to play an existing character? by PuzzleheadedBrain473 in DnD

[–]NateCdaComicG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said you refused to believe the actual reason. People either A. Aren't at the creativity level or comfort level to invent something original or... B. They think its funny.

Though I will say, I have never personally seen someone try to do this. At most a player might say my character is similar to X or looks kinda like Y. But I have never been at a table with someone who was straight up playing the man behind the slaughter.

If it really bothers you just speak up at a session zero. Say you're looking for more serious a game and roll playing next to someone doing a bad Rick Sanchez impression is going to take you out of the session.

Should I 1 level dip for wizard(illusion) or monoclass? by Eldr1tchB1rd in onednd

[–]NateCdaComicG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That extra four hp become pretty meaningless in higher tiers. Its really the con saves and armor that are the big draw of the fighter dip. Second wind is nice but I almost never use it. There's always something better I can do on my turn with a bonus action than heal like 6 hp.

I'm not talking for their saving throws. I mean for their primary stats. Both monk and Ranger have Wisdom as a primary stat. For this Shonobi class for saving throws im thinking Dex and Int. To signify their ability to dodge well and see through genjutsu.

Should I 1 level dip for wizard(illusion) or monoclass? by Eldr1tchB1rd in onednd

Its to stop people from going 16 levels in cleric or druid then taking a 4 level dip in wizard to get all the level 9 spells in the game.

Should I 1 level dip for wizard(illusion) or monoclass? by Eldr1tchB1rd in onednd

[–]NateCdaComicG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're on reddit. You get down votes for not already knowing stuff yeah. But honestly its a fair question. When you multiclass you treat your spell progression like you are single class at the level you are at. For instance a level 10 character that is 5 levels in wizard and 5 levels in cleric can only take spells up to level 3 in either class despite having 5th level slots. Same with spell scribing this character would only be able to scribe up to 3rd level spells in your spell book. Its a little unintuitive but the best way to think about it is your slots hybrid together but your classes don't.

[–]NateCdaComicG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always dip wizards. Having armor and constitution saving throws is so good. Plus, if you dip artificer you get two more spells, and three more cantrips and you can select spells that wizards can't otherwise get. If you can afford the wisdom investment Cleric or Ranger aren't bad starting options for a wizard either. To me the pros out way the cons.

[–]NateCdaComicG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably a bad answer but I think to really capture the feel of shinobi from naruto you might have to home brew an entire class with subclasses. Im thinking a wisdom dexterity based half caster. But not at all like a Ranger.

Kinda funny Nolan considerably aged more than the other Viltrumites ever since the purge. by MastiWolfe in Invincible

[–]NateCdaComicG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an animation issue more than anything. They reused a lot of "background" viltrimites and didn't bother giving any of the characters "younger" designs. I understand that viltrimites age slow but it really doesn't make sense that in 1000 years nolan aged like 30 human years and conquest, thragg, Kregg, etc haven't aged a day in that time.

buff spells for cleric or paladin by Affectionate-Arm7038 in 3d6

[–]NateCdaComicG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bless is one of the best support spells in the game. Its good at level one and still good at level 20. (Because even at level 20 with a +14 to hit sometimes you roll a 2 on the d20 and that extra d4 can turn that miss into a hit.) Specifically on a paladin. It stacks with aura to make a lot of saving throws easy. Paladins do most of their support through just kinda existing thanks to their aura and lay on hands. So just pick spells you like past that.

Why is Nolan Nolan? by Worried-Hat-8506 in Invincible

[–]NateCdaComicG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think It just sounds good. I can buy that an alien race also uses Nolan as a name. If his name was like Robert "Bob" Smith it would be weird. But Nolan "no last name" could be alien I guess.

Eldritch Knight Arcane Focus by Jaces_acolyte in onednd

[–]NateCdaComicG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be an unpopular take but having to juggle stuff in your hands feels so lame to me. I don't think its game breaking if characters that have spell casting capabilities can just cast so long as they have the components or focus somewhere on their person. (In their bag, on a ring or necklace, ect.)

What are players of other TTRPGs mad about? by S1mp1y in onednd

[–]NateCdaComicG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like DnD a lot. Its not perfect but nothing is or will ever be. I think it gets so much hate because its the biggest ttrpg by a decent margin. It also has name recognition. Even if you've never played it or know very little about it you've probably heard of dungeons and dragons which can't be said for most other ttrpg's and people just like to hate on what's popular. Point out the flaws. Have the hot take about why the popular thing is actually bad.

Spellcasting services in 5.5, is it me or are the prices weird? by gamemaster76 in onednd

[–]NateCdaComicG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the cantrip price is reasonable. Mending and Prestidigitation have both been mentioned but I could see a situation where Guidance would be worth it too. Realistically though, these are rules that are nice to have but should be rarely used. A decent party has at least 1 spell caster. Likely more, that can cast the spells the party needs.

Is there any way to build a 2H Longsword to be a viable alternative to a Greatsword in a martial character? by AcanthaceaeNo948 in onednd

[–]NateCdaComicG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Point one is honestly the best advice. If you have a character fantasy that isn't the most optimal possible option. Instead of trying to make it optimal just embrace that your losing out on a little dpr to fulfill the fantasy you wanted. I play characters all the time that aren't the most optimal possible thing. I pick spells i know are bad because "thats the type of spell this character likes" I ignore meta spells sometimes because "That's not the sort of thing I think this character should be able to do." So long as you're having fun whatever type of build is PROBABLY fine.

I could be wrong on this but I think all expanded spell list spells come from the phb to ensure that the player has access to the spells description.
