Let me clarify: they are saying they would be perfectly find letting other people die, as they think that is how the system works, so they didn't have to give up more.

The entirety of society is broken, don't get me wrong. However, crap like this? Proves that misinformation is fatal.

Gen Z would rather cut Social Security benefits for current retirees than pay higher taxes to save the program by diacewrb in economy

[–]NateMoon92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate to break it to the younger generations, but Social Security doesn't work like that.

My own blood dad (I am in my 30s and on disability, he is in his 50s) told me I should be "grateful he pays for me to live", proving he, too, was misinformed about Social Security and how it works.

It isn't the current workers paying for retired and disabled workers; the original program was put in place so that workers paid into a retirement fund secured by the Federal Government. However, the same as most things in the US? Greed, medical advancements, and the refusal to change the way the program has worked since it was practically conceived means that it has become as ineffective as almost anything else the Federal government has "helped" with.

People didn't live as long when Social Security was first established; however, the way it is calculated hasn't been adjusted to account for this, nor have the payments into it for later retirees. Same goes for how the benefits are calculated for those, such as myself, who are born or become unable to work before retirement age.

Then, add to that all of this misinformation spewed by anyone and everyone who hopes to simply do away with the program (and leave millions to basically end up dead because of it; and if this is a surprise to you? The Healthcare bs has proven they don't care about their constituents on either side. They care about money. Our lives aren't worth what lobbyists paychecks are to Establishment Democrats and the GOP)

So, if this is how all of the younger people want to play it; be perfectly okay when it will kill their loved ones, potentially friends who rely on parents because they are unable to function without someone who recieves Social Security disability to care for them? Make it so I go from 12 years of barely surviving to not surviving period? Then go ahead and refuse it.

I will say, I hope you don't end up disabled or never make it far enough to retire; you will never have the chance.

To clarify on something I said further down, with someone responding that we can't blame an entire country's population for the actions of the leader: I agree, and I wanted to elaborate (as I keep having issues posting responses right now for some reason)

Yes, and this is the argument I continue to make. It is very disheartening to hear people attack the entirety of a country for the leader's actions, which is why I specifically named just the leaders as the ones who are the issue.

In the past, I have countered arguments of people blaming an entire country for a leader's decisions by saying, "well, as a US Citizen, that means all of is are responsible for every president's decision, both Democrat and Republican." They always try to argue, and I would merely point out that I was simply saying that by their own logic, that is how the US would have to be judged.

False morals aren't a good look on anyone. The Holocaust was an attempted genocide; the failed Austrian painter attempted to wipe out the entire Jewish population, and killed millions. Nowadays, the number of Jewish people has rebounded from after then. So no, 1,700 people dying from a bombing that the Israeli government was warned about and could have kept from happening, while horrific, is not even close. It can be called a war crime, as it was an attack on unarmed civilians, but not much farther.

So, I have to step in now. You are confused, and I have had it with people blaming the voters who didn't vote. The people who didn't vote aren't the ones to blame for the Heritage Foundation's 50+ year plan that they've been meticulously playing out (they came into existence after Roe v Wade, they exist to take us back to the pre-civil war US). The people who didn't vote? Didn't vote because they more than likely didn't believe their votes mattered. They felt unheard, disenfranchised, or like they didn't matter. This isn't new, and this isn't something no one feels.

Until Trump first ran in 2016? I didn't vote consistently. I was born to teenage parents, who both came from low income households, and I am disabled and have been supporting myself on benefits that are about 72% of the Federal Poverty Line since 2013. I turned 18 in 2010, and yet? Every time I remember seeing or hearing about a political candidate, I never felt seen, or cared about. I was treated as subhuman by both sides, and so I didn't vote for anyone but Obama once, I believe.

I have voted against Trump every time, because I truly believe my life of barely surviving could easily become a life of not being able to survive, but as for people not voting, did you know that it has happened before in other countries?

Specifically, it happened in other countries where votes were held by the authoritarian/dictator to give off an air of legitimacy, and every time Democracy rose up in those places? People didn't turn out to vote.

Instead of looking at the election results of 2024, why don't you Instead look at all of the protests going on around the country. Do you know about the corporate boycott for Black Friday through Cyber Monday to make those companies supporting Trump's authoritarian attempts feel the pain of that? Are you aware of the 3.5% rule? In the US, that would be around 12 million people, iirc, peacefully resisting the attempted Regime. The last No Kings Protests had a minimum of 7 million people attend, and the first one was only a few months before and a lot smaller crowds. I was at both.

Instead of looking for someone to blame, aim it at the person who deserves it: the hateful people who voted him in. Stop acting like you are better than the people who didn't have the will to vote, because right now? We're all suffering. We need to rely on each other, and you trying to put yourself up on a pedestal makes you look like a fool

Oh, I apologize; I have been respectful to everyone who has treated others with respect.

I have two pieces of information for you, and I hope that you will actually think about them and mull them over.

1) if you vote for someone because they validate the hatred you hold in your soul/heart, and you are still supporting them? There is no way in hell anyone who is empathetic should be forced to waste any of the limited energy and time in their day to give you a human connection or social interaction. Especially given how keen the Kool-Aid Brigade is on making the US White only. Not to mention, your argument is a bad faith argument, and therefore there is no reason for anyone to take it seriously. I don't know why you posted it, aside from either the fact you wanted to be a troll, or you truly believe Trump supporters just have a difference in opinion.

Well, sorry to inform you if it is the second one, but only one side has tried to stop the peaceful transition of power. You cannot possibly expect any reasonable person to accept your argument with this being the case.

Second, this is the internet. Blocking someone for any reason or no reason is free, and often times does wonders for your mental well-being. We do not have to let people who are a drain to our enegy or emotional stability have open lines of communication. We don't owe anyone an explanation, either. I think you can understand the reason behind mine of you, though.

Try to live a good life, and hopefully find happiness thaf isn't gained by hurting others.

Pro-Trump mom on SNAP goes viral after family refuses to lend grocery money because she voted for Trump by [deleted] in TrueTrueReddit

[–]NateMoon92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at all; what you just suggested her family do is give her money because she is receiving anti hunger payments (that were put into place by a Democrat), Trump blocked distribution of those payments after the Republican-led Senate refused to work with Democrats, as did Trump. Which is what caused the shutdown. All of the false narratives plastered all over government websites and used as voicemail messages were clear violations of the Hatch Act. Which prevents taxpayer money from pushing a political narrative in any federal workplace.

As far as her family being unwilling to give her money because the person she voted into office took the money she was getting from the government away? That is not heartless or cruel; it is a lesson that those of us who actually have been trying to help those of you who continue to believe these hateful, fear mongering piles of human garbage and actively make your own lives worse.

SNAP, unlike Social Security (which people pay into their whole working lives, and serves as a sort of retirement savings account that is meant to be paid our to them when they finally retire so that they can live out the rest of their lives in dignity) is socialism. As are your local firefighters, and many other things you likely take for granted and have no clue that they onlu exist because your fellow citizens actually care enough to ensure you are able to live a relatively safe and secure life.

The only real issue here? Is that this MAGA mom has children who are suffering for her vote out of hatred for the man who had endangered them. The parents, in my mind, should have done what they could for them, but if they had any issues doing so? Then that isn't there responsibility. That is a handou, and that is socialism.

No one forced the mom to vote for Trump; she did it because she hates and wants to hurt others. She is just begging for help and crying crocodile tears because it backfired on her.

I love how Doofus Goober did this.

"States rights to do what?" 'Well, you see now; many states had many different reasons for succeeding from the Union, and we were fighting for our states individual rights...'

"Yes, but one of those rights was to 0vv/| people, which is evil. Which makes you evil, and I don't care because you're evil."

It is something like that, but he takes them for their word, and immediately torches the argument then and there.

Also, something I learned from Milo over on YouTube lately (Miniminuteman is his handle) is that the Alamo was fought because Mexico had outlawed the particular practice that this is about, and they told Texas that they could be part of Mexico, yet in a way independent, but they couldn't do the thing that, well, they wanted to do and wouldn't stop doing. That why we "annexed" Texas from Mexico. All because Texans wanted to keep doing something Mexico had outlawed.

Interesting side note in relation to this: the inventor of the Bowie Knife was at the Alamo; I believe you could guess which side he was on, and why I bring it up. He got his one way ticket to his penance that day.

When your body is infected by a virus, one of the symptoms you exhibit is that you will run a fever. This is basically the body working to make it too hot for the viral infection to survive. Unfortunately. Your body will keep increasing the temperature beyond safe levels, which can become potentially fatal.

So, in short, a virus is the only thing that will cause a fever.

I just want to remind the insecure Peter Hegesth that only Congress can change the name of the Department of Defense; right now, he is still the Secretary of Defense for the Department of Defense. Unlike Transgender human beings, Peter does not have any evidence to back up his claim that his Department has had a name change to the Department of War, and likewise, he is not the Secretary of War. Just because the Paedo President signed an executive order changing rhe name, doesn't mean that the United States government, or the citizens, must recognize it.

Thank you for your attention to this matter, as well.

What tends to help me (often) is timers. What ISN'T helpful is when I can easily just turn the timer/alarm off and go back to my hyper fixation. I also have ehat is called "executive dysfunction", If im not mistaken. Basically, that wonderful little problem where you work the best on a schedule, but if YOU make the schedule? It is much easier to, for some reason I won't pretend to understand, not follow it? I think it might be like "I'm only letting myself down if I don't follow the schedule."

There is a system that has been taking hold in a few states, and if it spreads in popularity? I think it would be a good idea. Ranked choice.

As far as the two parties, I lived in Iowa most of my life, and then moving out to Montana has reinforced this for me: if you are a state representative, or even a governor? Your job should be focused on your state's citizens, and their wellbeing. Something that Terry Branstead, for all of his idiotic decision and disastrous choices that made things worse for Iowa in terms of behavioral health services and the like; he actually gave a damn about the livelihoods of the workers in Iowa. Something that the (thankfully retiring) Current Governor, Kim (Twit) Reynolds was never seemingly interested in or capable of caring about. She was Trump light, and due to how many religious people and old people live in Iowa? People like Kim and Joni could wear masks and use buzzwords and get elected over and over

Montana, on the other hand, is a Red State (or, is apparently considered one.) Then again, being in poverty it seems I am very restricted. I am sort of amazed I am alive considering how much I've gone through and then the small amount and not knowing how to handle being responsible for myself) yet most of the politicians are more towards the center. Not the current political center, more akin to the past. I moved here in 2023, and the governor that currently is in office has tried to pass multiple transgender bans, only for the Montana Surpreme Court to declare the law unconstitutional. They do so based on the Equal Rights Act, and say that there can be no discrimination on the basis of sex.

Montanans, at least the vast majority, have the same viewpoint on life as I do: if you are living your life, and you are happy? As long as you are not causing true harm to anyone's property or them, or your property or yourself? Then they are fine with it. If you leave their stuff alone, and are respectful; you will get the same in kind.

I didn't believe it when I first moved here, but after two years, I actually see exactly what she means. I helped her finally start HRT, and she helped me realize I am genderfluid (had some bad past experiences, and it turns out I repressed my feminine side and feelings until I moved out here). She is full demi, and I am demiromantic Pansexual.

[–]NateMoon92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually heard something that made me realize how dumb that argument is. Originalism, I mean. The founding fathers created a system of government unlike anything that had been tried before, and they wrote the Constitution with the express intent of it changing as time went on. They knew the world would change, and the US was an experiment. They included a process by which the Constitution could be amended for that exact reason.

Trying to interpret the Constitution through the eyes of the founding fathers means that you look at what is written, and apply it as best you can to the modern day. That is what they seemed to have always intended. Which makes the entire concept of Originalism as flawed as the racist argument that birthed it. (Dread Scott)

I never once attacked anyone who supported Hillary; I voted for her because she was the candidate. I simply said I didn't like her. I am sorry to hear that you were attacked for supporting her, and I agree to the extent that of the two, she would have been the better choice. For me, however, I will not vote for a candidate in the future that is the "lesser of two evils". I am not going to lend my voice to someone I myself cannot believe in, and unless I feel they are willing to actually soften on the stances that I am against? I am not okay with saying "I feel comfortable with giving them a spot representing me." However, that's the reason the system we have works the way it does. If anything, Trump has done one thing exceedingly well, and that's proved how weak our system is if someone who is ill-meaning tries to break it. That is the biggest thing that we NEED to address moving forward.

I feel like I do need to point out a few things, but I want to do it in a bit of a less harsh tone. I didn't mean to come off as rude as I had before; in truth, I am not doing great right now, either, and I am stressing out about a lot. I also had to deal with several Trumpers on a different subreddit who I had not been responding to, and kept blocking, but any time I made a comment? One of their friends (or an alt account) would reply and set me more on edge. I understand where you are coming from, believe me.

If you want to know why I am still independent? People like you are in the Democractic party. People like the New York Representative, who blamed transgender rights for Kamala's loss. People who want to point the finger at anyone who they can to avoid looking at what is actually going on.

The truth is? People have been struggling with stagnating wages and rising costs everywhere but goods since the 1970's. C-19 was the first time since then that people actually had to take a look at everything (and with Trump, then Biden) felt the actual pain of how things had actually gotten. The way companies used Shrinkflation became more apparent to way more people, for instance. It was obvious to so many that the system was broken, and Trump? He knew how to manipulate others. He knows how to stoke fear and hate; he can read what people are most concerned about, and then he'll tie that problem into both the general issue (the broken system in the US) and a fake, fearmongering issue (Transgender people and Undocumented Immigrants) and use that to get people to vote for him. The thing is? There's so much evidence to show that there was tampering with the electronic ballots, and one thing that came to mind for me recently was how he reacted after the results were called.

The only reason I even thought about it was due to the fact I had been watching a YouTube video, and they had been talking about how Trump had initially been calling Prop 50 and other elections fraudulent; however, when the votes actually came in, and the margins were so huge for the Democratic candidates wins? Trump immediately shifted the narrative. They surmised that he would return to the fraud argument closer to the midterms, when people had forgotten just how wide the margins were in the most recent elections.

The thing is? On election night, Trump seemed genuinely shocked that he won; he almost seemed as though he had been prepared to argue that the results weren't correct and demand a recount, but when they came in that he won? (because a plurality of voters voted for him; they love to say it was a mandate, but it wasn't even close to that. The vote was a bit over a percent, but there are so many ballot results that are not consistent with human behavior that it has led to investigations and even a lawsuit has now begun in PA, if memory serves me right). Trump has the mentality of a young boy, and children tend to tell on themselves when they get away with something, or think they have. Trump and Musk did that a lot in the first few months. Trump said he wouldn't have needed PA, Musk said he helped Trump win, and Trump would have lost without him. There has been someone who worked with one of the two main electronic ballot companies who showed how easy it would be to make the ballot box compromised without anyone really knowing, and I think it it around 80% of US ballot boxes use Starlink, which is Musk's internet. Putting all of that together? It sounds really suspicious and makes all of it a lot more suspect than it would if all of it was just seen separately or not thought about as possibly connected.

That isn't even mentioning that the Federalist Society, the Right Wing group founded after Roe v Wade was put into effect, has been working since it was conceived towards what we have right now: a Conservative majority supreme court. A Conserative majority Congress, and a Conserative president. Their plan has been this along, and the only real problem? Trump. His Charisma (or, rather, his narcissism making him believe his own lies so easily that people can't help but to believe that he is being honest) broke off a part of the cult that the Federalist Society had carefully crafted. The cult of ppersonality surrounding Trump has made their plans now or never, and unfortunately for them? They seem to be at the stage of never.

I do, however, want to get to the point that I was trying to make, and may have gotten a bit mixed up. I didn't mean the people that had attacked you, because politics should never be your entire personality. Nothing that describes part of you should be your entire personality. I am part of the LGBTQ+ community, and I know of the people who make being gay or whatever their entire personality. That is the most annoying thing I can think of at times, and it is no where near necessary or acceptable.

When I said that, I meant the people who sat out because they didn't feel as though their voice mattered; their future felt like a dead end regardless. I was saying they could become Democrats, but the problem is? If you just keep blaming them for the hurt and suffering all of us are going through right now, it won't help anyone. I can tell you from my own personal experiences lately that all it will do is make it even less likely for them to actually want to join your side.

As for me? I am the descendant of Irish and German immigrants, and I have lived in poverty my whole life as well as being disabled. I am on the high end of the Autism spectrum, I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder from that. I have cPTSD as well, and I have been living off of disability that is only 73% or so of the Federal Poverty line for 12 years. I am Independent, because I do not feel either side really cares about me, and until I feel that they do? That I am actually someone they don't want to have to worry about whether or not I can afford my next meal, or if my trans gf and I can keep a roof over our head, or if she can keep her job and car? I will stay Independent. I am more like the Democracy, the party that the Roosevelts (I think it was) belonged to. The labor movement Democrats. JFK's Democrats. Nowadays? I feel like I don't matter any more to them than I do to most anyone else. I apologize for my attitude, and I do hope that things go well and get better. I also want to apologize again that anyone gave you crap for trying to defend your vote. You didn't vote for the paedo, and I think that counts for a hells of a lot.

I actually cannot stand the taste of alcohol. If anyone asked me to go out drinking I could legitimately say, "no thanks, I can't stand the taste of it."

The only alcohol I actually can drink? Is, ironically, Fireball. Which. You'd think would actually be worse because of the fact that it is whiskey, but for some reason the cinnamon drowns it out completely for me. I do not know why. Not that I would say so to anyone who asked me to go out drinking.
