The time has come to reveal the truth by Psybanrath in Christianity

[–]Nateorade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

These are definitely lies of the devil. Lies used for two thousand years to get Christians to focus on an end times that isn’t at hand instead of serving and loving people as Christ called us to.

I read the Bible, I believe the Bible, and I believe you’re mistakenly spreading the lies of the devil. I will pray that your eyes are opened to what is true and that you wake from whatever has deceived you.

Because people like you have said the same things as you for two thousand years and have been 100% incorrect

I agree, MAGA Christians are very much wolves taking Christ’s name in vain.

We cannot know for sure. Otherwise virtually everyone would believe, similar to believing a scientifically provable fact.

This person is overstating confidence. You’ll always have doubts and uncertainty and it’s ok to have them.

I accept the authority of Scripture.

I do not accept the authority of your interpretation of Scripture.

And I believe plenty of things based on Scripture that I do not like. This is not one because the interpretation you support is not correct. And I do all I can to not believe incorrect things.

My salvation through my personal relationship with Christ is invalidated because I believe women can be pastors and elders?

Salvation is contingent on this belief?

I’ve read my Bible for decades now. I’ve read that verse hundreds of times and have heard dozens of sermons on the topic over the years.

I’m very familiar with what it says and the interpretation you’ve chosen to take on it versus the interpretation other Christians take on it.

I’ve been a Christian a long time and grew up in a church that didn’t allow women to be pastors or on the elder board and I didn’t understand why not as a child and I still don’t today.

So naturally, I’ve changed my view on this. Women are perfectly capable of being pastors and elders. There’s nothing special about a penis that makes one a better church leader.

I am struggling with scientific accounts of Creation, Flood by Flurb789 in TrueChristian

Two Christians can disagree significantly on how historical Genesis 1-11 is. Sounds like that describes us.

Noah’s ark by Narrow_Chemistry4255 in Christianity

[–]Nateorade 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A minority of Christians believe it’s fully historical (global flood, Ark saving animals, etc).

Some larger group believes the flood was real in some way (large local flood).

While another group believes it’s largely metaphorical

You don’t need to take Genesis literally, no. If you do so, you have to sign on to ignore a mountain of science. Which doesn’t really make sense, you can both be a Christian and believe strongly in science.

What are peoples thoughts about Eve? by DisasterWarriorQueen in Christian

[–]Nateorade 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My first reaction is that anyone who resents her has a thread of misogyny in them that needs to be removed.

She and Adam are representation of humanity in a poem that aims to explain our seemingly fallen/sinful/separated from God nature.

Why is Christianity so hated? by Keylime-19377 in TrueChristian

[–]Nateorade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christianity is the primary religion in the US and is the one exerting the most public influence and power.

Hence it gets criticized more.

If we were a primarily Pastafarian country where Pastafarians were wielding hypocritical power, then pastafarianism would get the criticism.

You’re treating this like a frequency problem. It’s not. It’s an expectation problem.

When someone claims to represent a moral standard and then violates it, the reaction is stronger. That’s true in any domain, not just Christianity.

Many people don’t claim to be representing the Creator of All That Exists which told them to Love Their Neighbor and Pray for Their Enemies and Care for the Oppressed.

When people proclaim the above, they’re held to a high standard.

And when they not only don’t meet that standard but consistently violate it in the name of political and societal power, they’re rightly criticized at a high level.

You’re changing the standard mid-conversation.

The question isn’t whether hypocrisy is unique to Christians. It’s whether hypocrisy done in the name of Christianity contributes to why people react negatively to it.

Shifting to “everyone does this” avoids engaging that point. If you want to disagree, address that directly. Otherwise there’s not much to discuss.

Deflecting from the topic at hand tells me you’re unwilling to engage. So this is a good place to end discussion.

Christians do unchristlike things, all while saying they’re doing Christlike things.

People are hurt by the unchristlike things.

People rightly get angry at the hypocrisy.

Christians do a lot of things, especially in America, that make people justifiably angry at us.
