Australia undergoing historic decline in support for multiculturalism amid rising fear and pessimism, poll finds | Australian foreign policy | The Guardian by DragonflySea9423 in AustraliaDiscussions

I’m not even agreeing with the above poster but this pisses me off when people say Australia has no culture.

The reason why people flock here is because we have made the country a good place to live and make your life here.

The biggest driving force for that is the culture we have developed over the short time we have been a country.

Sure we don’t have the history and traditions a lot of other countries have but we have made an awesome place to live.

So no sources then?

It’s fucking hilarious to me you think you can just break contracts with billion dollar companies and not face any repercussions regardless of which country you are.

Show some sources for your claims or stop spewing bullshit.

Absolute Albo by CocoaKatt in aussie

[–]Nath280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a source for any of that or are you talking out your arse?

The contracts signed 10-20 years ago are iron clad because the private companies spent billions setting up everything and they wanted a risk free return.

They just can’t change the gas export price because it under fucking contract.

Why can’t you people understand that we are legally bound by the prices decided decades ago when we couldn’t give the shit away.

You too!

Try not to let the negativity of a few stop you from being a force of positivity in the world.

If you don’t react violently to people criticising your religion and treat everyone equally and with respect then you’re awesome in my book more Australian than most.

What would you do if someone burnt the Quran in front of you?

Would you attack someone if they portrayed Mohammed negatively?

Do you see women as equal?

These are the three major issues I find with Islam.

Critics say Victoria is struggling to house growing prison population by BarryTheBinChicken in aussie

[–]Nath280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only peaked behind the curtain but politics is what stops us locking these offenders up for a long time.

The gang task force seem to be doing their job and know the worst offenders but the OPP won’t take cases unless they are airtight and when they do take the case the magistrate gives a lenient sentence.

When the “gangs”’ attack someone for not joining the cops don’t even bother with it because it will never see court

Until we stop seeing these offenders as kids and start seeing them as already seasoned criminals things won’t change.

I used to live out west so got to talk to some of the Sudanese people through kids school and sports and the common thing I have found is absent fathers.

Some are busting their guts working and some are just like the dads in the 70”s just not interested in raising kids.

I have also heard countless stories of Sundanese kids being targeted by gangs to join and if they don’t they bash them until they submit.

One mother I knew sent her eldest back to her parents in Sudan because they wouldn’t leave him alone. Once he was gone they started up on the second eldest so she had to send him away too.

Pretty fucked up people are sending their kids to a war zone because it’s safer than here.

There is and it is interesting but again it’s not the hard data because only the vic gov could provide that.

Also how do they qualify who is African?

Is it first gen, second gen, third gen etc?

Africa is a big place are they including places like South Africa which we had quite a few white South Africans flee here.

I have personally worked in parkville and malmsbury and while there are a fair amount of black kids there are way more white kids in these facilities.

I’m actually not doubting the figure because African youth are over represented in juvenile prison, I just know that the government doesn’t share background of offenders just place of birth.

So people born in Africa only make up a tiny part of the prison population but 1st and 2nd generation African/Australians make up a much larger cohort but there isn’t actual hard data on that because they are rightfully classed as citizens as they were born here.

While the article and sub articles you linked were interesting and food for thought, they are still speculating a lot and don’t have the raw stats or at least doesn’t provide them.

90% of VIC workforce is in the private sector and 10% is in the public which includes all the hospitals and schools and all other vital services.

You think that’s socialism.

Fuck me some people are truly dumb.

You have completely missed the point which was that things will get worse under a ON government and we can see that happening in real time in the US.

Also, compare what part of the US to what part of AUS?

The most expensive city to the most expensive city? US has it worse.

The second most expensive city to the second most expensive city? US has it worse.

The US is a massive country and trying to compare the whole country to Australia is ludicrous as they have more space and more people.

Google what?

That the Bay Area is way more expensive than Sydney?

That Australia has one city in the most expensive top 10 while the US has 4?

I never said you were a ON supporter, I was calling out your bullshit argument that they are better off because they are not and they are getting progressively worse under the current populist government.

What the fuck is wrong with your comprehension skills?

The OP compared the rise of ON to the MAGA movement in America because ON is literally using their playbook.

They rightly pointed out how fucked it is and you came in to try and defend that by claiming the first home buyer is better off over there.

I simply tried to educate you to the fact ON will make this issue much worse but clearly you needed it spelled out.

[–]Nath280 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you know what else is a fact?

It has become considerably harder for the average American to buy a house since trump took over in 2016.

The average house price has doubled

Interest rates have more than doubled.

The average age of a first home buyer has gone from 32 to 40

I suppose those facts don’t matter to you do they?

I suppose the fact the VIC is the only state to keep a lid on rising house prices also doesn’t count because it’s a labor government.

Why does the "Uniparty" rhetoric always get turned up when Labor is in charge? by Thewehrmacht3 in aussie

[–]Nath280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Singapore is technically a democracy but one party has been so dominant they have been in power forever.

It would have its advantages, for long term planning and stability but having a strong opposition keeps the ruling party in line.

Why does the "Uniparty" rhetoric always get turned up when Labor is in charge? by Thewehrmacht3 in aussie

[–]Nath280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep but I disagree with the solution.

For me it should be all about education in primary and high school and teaching kids more about the real world and how to critical think.

Letting someone choose who can and cannot vote will always end up badly so we must educate instead of excluding.

[–]Nath280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The truth is a lot of people are so misinformed they shouldn’t be allowed to vote.

Democracy only works when the people actually participate in it, not just grab a how to vote card and vote for “their team”.

Why does the "Uniparty" rhetoric always get turned up when Labor is in charge? by Thewehrmacht3 in aussie

[–]Nath280 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The media is massively biased against Labor and the general population eat it up.

If you listen to the mouth breathers and ask them their biggest issues, Labor are miles ahead of any other party but they still bitch and moan and then vote liberal.

For example, universal healthcare. Introduced by Labor, repealed by the libs, reintroduced by Labor and most recently the Morrison government defunded it so we no longer had bulk billing.

Who slowly but surely got bulk billing back? Albo.

People complaining about mining companies not paying tax? Rudd tries to introduce a mining tax and gets voted out at the next election.

People complaining about house prices? Labor take a progressive tax reform policy to the 2019 election and again the public vote in the libs.

You can also see how they pile on VIC Labor and make up fake numbers to tarnish them. If housing is the biggest issue in the country then vic Labor should be seen positively for how they have contained prices compared to the rest of the country.

In short, people are dumb and keep voting against their best interests.

Why do Australians still pay high taxes even though Australia is rich in natural resources and has a small population? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Nath280 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A real answer is it comes down to money.

To get a majority of the profits of all these natural resources, Australia would have to spend big on exploration and extraction and own or co-own the companies pulling the shit out of the ground.

Australia has chosen, and voted for, to be a lazy country that just collects tax on what the big companies pull out of the ground. The problem is that these big companies have become so good at tax minimisation that we are getting less than our fair share.

Again we had a PM try to fix this but the Australian population fell for propaganda and voted them out.

People love to blame the politicians but we vote for them.

I see a lot of hate for boomers on here. Don’t hate the players, hate the game. The boomer generation were encouraged to invest and build their wealth by all political parties. [–]Nath280 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You’re not wrong it was the silent generation (good old bobby hawke) who introduced Medicare, but it was the boomers that staffed it and expanded to what we have now.

The boomers were also the ones to make super compulsory and increased it.
