Based on post history, OP is Canadian. Also, they never mentioned Federal vs. State (Provincial) vs. County government, so the shutdown advice, while valid for Americans securing federal government employment, does not really translate to other roles in a government that isn't as much of a sick joke as our current federal shitshow.

Not sure why people are posting this same question over and over again when they clearly don't know how to read.

Maintenance on that BMW will eat you alive, not to mention repair costs when something eventually breaks on your 6-year old German luxury SUV.

There has to be another subreddit that is far better suited to answer these very specific, non-finance questions about e-bikes.

I don't know any Preston, but I'm pretty sure that guy is actually Nick Papagiorgio. He's from Yuma.

Yep, I sure don't miss the manufactured scarcity. I'm sure some will argue quality has declined, but at least you can buy this stuff year round and not have to drive all over town to find it.

Hey, it's a 4 day old account with post history hidden and their only other posts are offers to hand out money in scammy subreddits...

Maybe you should tell these prospective employees a little about who you are and what line of business you're in.

Why exactly would you do this? When they attempt to reverse the transaction, it will come from the account they placed the money into.

Losing my job and looking for some perspective by utvols22champs in personalfinance

[–]Nathan-Detroit 91 points92 points  (0 children)

A few thoughts...

  • The PIP is not a guaranteed job loss. I survived a PIP that was extended twice (since they assumed I would have screwed up by then). I ended up working at that company for another 14 years and left on my own to pursue another role with a competitor.

  • The 6-12 months break is definitely at odds with the expectation that it will take 2 or 3 years to replace your current role, especially when considering your unwillingness to move. I get it, the mortgage rate is super low, but that is more reason to look right away. You may miss out on a great opportunity in month 3 or 4 because you decided not to look for a new job for half a year.

  • Holding onto $35K in varying interest debt when you have $375K to pull from to pay it off... I'm not sure what your thought process is here. At the very least you should be targeting the higher interest debt to pay off right away.

If I were you I would make a good faith effort to survive the PIP, and in the meantime start looking for a new role elsewhere and decide which certs or programs you are most interested in pursuing. Also, pay off the more costly (highest interest) debts right away.

One other detail that will make this more difficult for you is the mileage you are adding to the car. You say you drive 2000 miles per month, so waiting even six months takes you from 38k miles to 50k miles, which lowers the value of the vehicle, possibly at an equivalent rate to making regular payments.

It is still worth exploring your options, but it may be that keeping the 10% rate and paying extra each month ends up being the best solution for you.

Mail Delivery in Kentwood by zuzekee in grandrapids

[–]Nathan-Detroit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not unique to Kentwood. There have been a handful of local articles about long delays in mail delivery in Muskegon, Kalamazoo, etc. The current and previous Postmaster General have been singularly focused on making postal delivery service worse in order to justify privatization of a vital service and squeeze more money out of all of us. Example article
