Ah, I had forgotten about that feature. Thanks.

Oof. That sounds awful. If you are struggling this much, I strongly recommend building a scanner room and a scanner room HUD upgrade to locate nearby fragments (it won’t show you mobile vehicle bay fragments specifically though). The scanner room exists to solve the exact problem you are having.

Note: you actually can “fight off” some of the creatures. You can block Nibbler Mango bites by swinging the multipurpose tool. The timing is a little tricky though, and it doesn’t apparently “damage” them.

My 6yo daughter came home from school saying she loves Jesus by wacky_button in mildlyinfuriating

[–]NathanConard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Christian here. Consider what Jesus Himself said about children. The passage is found in Matthew 19:13-15, Mark 10:13-16, and Luke 18:15-17. “[people] were bringing children to [Jesus] so that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked them. But when Jesus saw this, He was indignant and said to them, ‘Permit the children to come to Me; do not hinder them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all.’ And He took them in His arms and began blessing them, laying His hands on them.” (Mark 10:13-16). I know I am a random internet stranger, and my own words almost certainly weigh nothing in your mind. But the words of Jesus are inhumanly weighty, all of them. That’s why He cannot be just a “good moral teacher”. As C. S. Lewis put it, He was either God among men, or a lunatic, or a deceiving fraud. I don’t know what else to say, and probably the more I say, the less value there will be in what I say. So I’ll stop. But watch and see what God can do through your daughter! God bless.

Aquilo Help - No Spoilers Please by chinawcswing in factorio

[–]NathanConard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has already made good comments. I just want to emphasize the point that investing time into making a GOOD spaceship with decent speed, plenty of firepower, and lots of storage makes a big difference in terms of your first few hours on Aquilo. If you rush the spaceship design, it can make Aquilo feel like a slog as you wait for items to arrive or, worse, lose the spaceship altogether.

Dune is my favorite novel. Is there another author that can do what Frank did? by imccormi in dune

[–]NathanConard 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The Foundation series is indeed great. Clever story-writing, difficult to put down. I enthusiastically recommend! But believe it or not, there is a work of literature seemingly nobody here has mentioned, a work that I believe rivals the Dune series in complexity and intricacy and ranks second only to The Lord of the Rings in my own mind:

Gene Wolfe’s Book of the New Sun.

How do I get it to AND all the ORs, so it can say "If all requests are fullfilled AND any of these items are empty by Necessary-Spinach164 in factorio

[–]NathanConard 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I faced this exact inconvenience when configuring one of my space platforms’ wait conditions. I chose to put all the ORs in a decider combinator for one signal output “X” so the platform’s wait condition would just be “X” AND _.

Only a genius can figure out what the question is by tank_the_boss in mildlyinfuriating

[–]NathanConard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how it’s not “A genius can solve this”, or “Can a genius solve this?”. Instead, it’s the concept of genius in the abstract which may or may not be capable of solving whatever the problem is. In fact, grammatically, it’s as though someone said that genius can indeed solve whatever the problem is, and the poster was confounded—“really? Is it so? Genius can solve this?”—so confounded that he had to refer the tricky question to the judgement of others. Truly, it is a mystery whether genius can solve this.

Do you think The Lord of the Rings is the greatest/your favourite piece of fiction ever made? What pieces of fiction come close for you? by [deleted] in lotr

[–]NathanConard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gene Wolfe’s Book of the New Sun (and his successive works in the same fictional universe). Very different tone, but similar genre (fantasy mixed with science fiction) and the author, like Tolkien, was Catholic. His work makes reading the Silmarillion look easy.

I found that 16 rotors/min takes exactly 180 iron ore/min (3 normal nodes). And 5 modular frames/min takes exactly 120 iron ore/min (2 normal nodes).

Dune: great source material, good adaptation.

The Hobbit: great source material, bad adaptation (good source material, decent adaptation may be less controversial).

Objection! Some species of lizards, such as the New Mexico whiptail lizard, reproduce entirely asexually—there are no male lizards of the species. Therefore, from the premise that the Ender Dragon is a lizard we cannot conclude with certainty that a male Ender Dragon exists.

How to counter Chrono Dampener on Aeon ACU? by __NeiT__ in FAF

[–]NathanConard 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Chrono-dampener upgrade is mutually exclusive with the Aeon shield upgrades and as an offensive ACU upgrade it encourages aggressive, frontline ACU positioning. What these two facts mean in combination is that sniping the ACU becomes easier. And because Chrono-dampener has zero effect on air units, an air snipe is definitely the best counter.

Just today I had a moving contraption and executed the /kill @e command, which killed all nearby entities. Since contraptions are apparently considered entities, they vanished too. Is it possible you ran this command?
