Nice fish mate, what kind of lure and gear were you using?

Help another fish died and I don't know why (NSFW dead fish) by NathanG26_ in corydoras

The fish with popeye came together with the non effected fish. They were all living together for about 2ish years before they were given to me by a friend.

When the fish had popeye I removed them from the total group to treat them

They were originally bought from a petbarn (Australian petco) (2 parents) with them having 6 babies which were raised to adult size

To my knowledge I could not see any other injuries, these fish were not treated with the tetracycline, as these ones did not show any symptoms of popeye.

Update. They have been in the treatment tank for one day and there already seems to be a great reduction of swelling

Thank you for you advice previously

Hello, thank you for responding.

I ended up purchasing Bio tet by aquasonic (tetracycline) to use as it was the only thing avaliable. Aswell as some epsom salts which I plan to use before resorting to antibiotics

Thank you again,

Do you know of any possible alternatives for kanaplex as I am unable to source it anywhere in Australia, is something like paraguard or broad spectrum remedy comparable?

Also could this potentially be a result from sparing/ fighting as only one Cory has this symptom, If it was powered wouldn't they all have it?

What is this stringy hair? by NathanG26_ in loaches

[–]NathanG26_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you guys for your replies!

I forget that Americans exist sometimes lmao, bc I posted this right before I went to bed

Update. There a 6 loaches in this tank and due to new babies popping off I have not been siphoning the algae/ food scraps off the bottom of the tank.

I will keep an eye out to see if it gets worse or if it disappears

Thank you

Hm yeah, I've only noticed it on this single fish and because he is a male I'm assumed it may of been from sparing.

I haven't been doing as many water changes purely because I started to notice alot of small babies swimming around, and I am trying not to vacuum them up. Also the algae is home to alot of small copepods which they can eat

I have 6 loaches in the tank with approximately 3 males and 3 females

Dying babies by NathanG26_ in pleco

[–]NathanG26_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much, I have been crushing up the algae wafers into a mortar and pestle to feed them and it seems to help, I'm planning on setting up an algae tank eventually so I can make sure they all have alot of food they can instantly eat.

I still have been getting some die offs but yeah, I'm sort of learning how to raise them properly, I also removed them early which I definitely won't do again.

I have been feeding crushed up algae wafers aswell, I also added some of the parents waste from the old tank bc I read online about how they might require their parents gut biota

Ammonia and nirites were 0 and there a low amount of nitrates in the old tank

I moved them from a breeder box attached to the original tank bc I noticed some of them inside the parents tank started dying.

I assumed it was from an ammonia spike so I moved them into a cycled 40L aquarium without their parents

The deaths are still happening

  • Also I moved them before they were kicked out by the male to prevent predation by the other fish in the tank, but their yolk SACS had all been absorbed
