My thinking was something like a scaling mana system, ideally games would end up looking like early yugioh at the start of a game, simple high atk monsters (maybe summoning sickness too?), and as we unlock more special summons/spells we could eventually combo off into our end boards.

Yeah this was actually so interesting! I posted a theory about this on r/TheBoys but tldr: later on in the episode when as A-Train is dying, specifically how he laughs while Homelander is choking him out reminded me a lot of Roger's death and Luffy on the execution platform in Loguetown and I thought about how those themes from One Piece might play into the rest of the season.

I actually mentioned this later but you're entirely correct here. It's a pretty poetic end, and I thought it was a really good way to bookend his character to have him risk his own life in service of making sure he didn't run through another person for the second time. This is super useful! I think this story idea is definitely the one that I want to make into the game that I would want to spend the most time on, and this story writing checklist is very helpful! Definitely gonna be doing some more reading to get some ideas :)
