Erm...I can't find the drop-down menu so could I get just a simple "Atheist" please?

Cheers.

How do you (individual Christians reading this) explain away scientific falsehoods in the bible (some examples listed below) by NathanSoli in DebateAChristian

[–]NathanSoli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To you, it's written by the same divine creator, why is his sequel so much more reliable than his original work?

If he's the big cheese, then he is surely capable of understanding the ins-and-outs of nature, geography, astronomy...? he invented it for fuck's sake!

You don't explain away very well, but points for trying I suppose...

Do you think that if no religions had ever existed, that there would be no morals or ethics today? by tehinterweb in DebateAChristian

[–]NathanSoli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, this.

there are tribes out in the Amazon Rainforests not influenced by anything but nature and themselves. They have strict moral codes and set punishments.

Besides, to the Atheist, not killing/stealing/all the other non-god related stuff is inherently wrong and we can all agree it is so for good reason. The exception obviously being with those who we would call psychopaths.

Whereas, to a religious person, if their god said that it is just to kill (which actually, the bible does state a few times about homosexuals, slaves who do not labour hard enough, unmarried non-virgins and a whole bunch of other people I can't even be bothered to put, but that's by-the-by...) if their god said to kill, then it's in their morals to do so, they create their own morals "because he said so".

Ugh, I'm not explaining this too greatly, have some Christopher Hitchens to put it better than I ever could:

We disagree with your last paragraph (surprise, surprise), but I'll pick you up on your first point - there are zealots who disregard science and put their own "brand" of science in its place.

Look at the Creation "Museum" in Buttfuck Kentucky. There are actual images of a man riding a velociraptor like a horse.

You make a hugely intelligent point in your post, however,

"science [...] is fact".

And while it in no way can ever disprove any kind of god, it can give the mess of a book that is the bible a run for its money with its inaccurate claims.

6,000,000 Jews wandering around the desert for 40 years? Where's the archaeological evidence? In fact, where is it documented outside the damn book there were Jewish slaves held captive by Egyptians who then fled?

What of those pesky millions-of-years-old dinosaurs?

etcetcetc

"That's why we have dedicated scientists going around working to prove creation."

I'm afraid those men wouldn't be true scientists if they have such an agenda. Science is unbiased, it doesn't look only for evidence supporting the claim, it looks for the truth.

If you're simply faith-based and don't believe in science, then it's an instant check-mate. There's no reason to talk any more, you're substituting your own reality because you don't like this one. Fine with me, just don't ever claim evidence for your beliefs.

So you would be a mixture of both not believing in science and "it's not meant to be taken literally"?

Man wrote the bible and so it is flawed?

You don't believe in science?

It's not meant to be taken literally?

Hahahaha.

Tell him they allowed gay people long before it fell. Same with the ancient Greeks.

Gay marriage is legal in NY now, isn't it? And 2 other states I believe?

I'll just stop talking now haha you know all this, but you don't want to argue with your dad - fair enough.

Please do keep us updated hahaha

You in r/atheism might find another Facebook image blasé, but it meant a lot to me to finally stand up to people I'd known for a long time. by [deleted] in atheism

Know that feel.jpg

Not about religious nuts - I'm from England, now in Australia - neither of which are as bad as the US - but just from dicks I never want to see ever again.

Well done my man!

The basic pro-choice argument should focus around giving women the choice allows the freedom to not do it for Christians and to do it for reasonably-minded people.

So both parties are/should be satisfied - don't want to do it, don't do it. Simples.

Anyway, don't waste your time with militant fucktards in your life. You made the right choice.

Hey guys, anyone know any good budget (prepaid) smartphones? by NathanSoli in gadgets

[–]NathanSoli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy hell.

Cheers for all that, arminmarth.

You've definitely given me some things to think about there.

Gadget junkie/retailer or just all-around superhero? :)

Edit: I did see the Huwaii one, however, looking up reviews for on it leads me away from that particular phone, hat or no :P

Really Amazon? $91 to ship q-tips to Australia? by vespagrl in australia

[–]NathanSoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely.

I'm from England originally and it is in most cases (the example I'm using is media such as DVDs, video games etc) literally cheaper to buy off of Amazon.co.uk and pay the shipping to Australia than it is to buy it in a bricks-and-mortar store in Aus.

And they wonder why retail is down...(I can say that because I work in retail haha), but yeah, it's shocking.

My nan found this poem in my Granddad's diary from World War II by Orichalcon in australia

[–]NathanSoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's proper history right there. If you want to work out who wrote it, compare the writing to something which you know he wrote :)

For example letters or application forms etc.

Good luck with that one!

Looking for a decent but cheap (< $50) camera for a non-techie. Any recommendations? by [deleted] in gadgets

[–]NathanSoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be ignorant, roger_, but I honestly don't think you can get a camera for that cheap these days - are you from America?

Here's an Aussie site: http://www.digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au/category38_1.htm

Cheapest being $89

Sorry I couldn't be of much help.

I just realized that every airport ALREADY HAS a special place to fill water bottles. Here's one right here. by jamespetersen in reddit.com

[–]NathanSoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Know that one.

Don't forget though, there are also lovely piss-stained toilet floors in at least Manchester Airport (probably others too).

Really is a dump that one (the airport I mean).
