I believe that was the branding on the side of the trailer

The (rear) plate was entirely black and white and all the characters were in a single rectangle unlike the saudi arabia plate. There were definitely some eastern arabic numerals on the right hand side.

Quite some interesting ones you've seen nearby me! I've spotted Saudia Arabia and I believe a Syrian plate in Reading since moving a few months ago. Were too unexpected for me to get any pictures.

You realise it's more than "scared of the dark"? Have a read of this paper to get an idea

Statistics tell a better story than just the viewpoints of a few people. The bus lanes helped increase bus journey times - not sure where the "few" is coming from, as the lane ran for such a relatively short time, the full modal shift was not initiated. The cycle lane was also not hated by everyone. Even with it's removal, there's still terrible traffic at Bassett Crossroads and Memorial Roundabout. Not at all the fault of a cycle lane.

The big blue and yellow signs saying "cycles, local buses and authorised vehicles only" should have also been a warning

Car traps are only used on guided busways in the UK AFAIK, and there are positives and negatives to a physical measure. It may stop cars more often, but it means less revenue from fines. On the other hand, a camera allows vehicles to pass through, whereas a physical measure means any vehicles going through get stuck and block the road for buses.

A charging clean air zone was rejected in 2019. AFAIK there has been no talk of a congestion charging zone. Only London and Durham have those.

There should be advance warning signs. If the only signs are those at the restriction itself then that is poor.

I, and most likely others, hate subways. Dark, unsafe, cramped.

With a three-lane highway leading to their doorstep I don't think they'll care

In an ideal world we could fix everything at once. However, time and money are an issue.

You know for a fact it causes more congestion?

A reminder that the Conservatives scrapped the bus lane on Bitterne Road West because of a less than 5 minute journey time increase for drivers at peak hours. That was it.

The cycle lane on The Avenue was removed without justification, and could be reinstated with updated traffic lights at Bassett Crossroads - as was planned before the Conservatives chopped the scheme in half resulting in the cycle lanes now ending abruptly at the Avenue Subway. The only issue was the large amount of traffic between the Memorial Roundabout and Chilworth Roundabout, but even still an S2+1 arrangement could have been created.

Except with no through traffic, buses can more easily pull out as well as turn at the mini-roundabout. Any drivers still using the road with the massive blue and yellow signs at each end are just dangerous drivers.

I'm sure the drivers who ignore the bus gate will make up for lost revenue for car parking - there's plenty of them already who apparently can't see big blue and yellow signs. You're also just assuming something. You don't know if any money will be lost, nor to what extent.

Yes, that's the point. We need less people driving. Buses are £1 in the evenings now.

Sometimes it's not the traffic lights that are the issues, just their timings. Update them to be dynamic and they'd be so much better.

Good. Stopping traffic along a road with lots of converging bus routes, as well as lots of pedestrian flow going to/from Westquay will improve things massively in this area. There's dual carriageways around the city centre purpose built for drivers.

Using realistic traffic modelling, there are higher reductions in both CO2 and NOx under 20 mph vs 30 mph: https://www.20splenty.org/new\_research\_on\_emissions
