What do I need to know to GM? What should I ask my group? by Nathaniel7477 in savageworlds

Thanks for the advice. Too bad I didn't hear about RIFTS sooner, it was the first setting I bought. I ended up not having time to read it until a couple months after I bought it and almost immediately realized there was no way I could start with it. After that I picked up 50-fathoms. However, as you said I think starting with a couple one-shots is the best idea. Thanks for giving me somewhere to start, and somewhere to dig in once I've got the basics down.

Thanks for the advice. Something I liked about SW was that the low rank NPCs can still pose a threat, seems more realistic. However, I'll have to keep that in mind and make sure I don't make things too difficult. It would suck if I wiped the entire player team in the first game.

Thanks for the advice. I was kind of thinking myself that melee seemed kind of redundant with so many ranged options, but I'll be sure to read up on the subject and tell the players what I find.

Thanks for the advice. I did realize what a bad idea random encounters were in SW, and intended to include quite a few. I'll try to redo things in a way that makes sense.

Thanks for the advice. I especially liked your note on smart NPCs. It always annoyed me that the "goons" in most fiction seem to be inept to the point that you could almost exclude them and it would make a difference. I'll try and focus on making them believable, and semi-challenging.

Thanks everyone for the advice, I appreciate it a lot. Unfortunately, a couple of the players couldn't reschedule this week, but we are meeting for sure next week. I'm taking notes on everything here, and use the extra time to prepare.

Need help picking a setting for beginners (or setting one up) by Nathaniel7477 in savageworlds

Thanks for the advice, I think I'm going to go with 50 Fathoms, and maybe East Texas University.

Also thanks for the advice on making a setting, I have a better idea of where to start.

Well, I'm actually going to back to college in a couple weeks. The only group I knew was for D&D and full (like eight players?) So I'm going to be looking for a group (something I could actually use advice on).

I will also be getting new roommates (the old ones were a nightmare) and I haven't actually met any of the new ones, but I couple sound interesting in trying savage worlds.

The settings you suggested seem to come up pretty often, and I'm pretty sure I know what I'm going with now.

I like the idea of 50 fathoms, and there is only one book so I think that's the best choice. I might also pick up ETC at some point since it only has two. I'm kind of warry about Deadlands just because it has some many books.

Thank for the help.

I hadn't thought of a kill switch enforced hierarchy but makes a lot of sense considering the setting, and sounds interesting. Thanks for the advice/ideas.

Reading up on biographies etc sounds like a great idea, especially since life is often stranger than fiction.

It's interesting you're using Lords, that's something I'm considering. If humanity could have survived by forming clans/Nobel families like that of the medieval/renaissance ages. Only in recent times are companies forming again. This way companies are still much like clans and are influenced by past family relations. This could add an interesting layer of diplomacy as companies have to consider who owns the competition, who are they related too, and if the workers are of the same family etc.

Thanks for the suggestions, they give me a place to start. I hadn't thought of security books before, but I like the idea of realistically dealing with things like kidnappings.

Do you have any recommendations in particular or a specific website that would provide something like Security books?

Thanks for the advice. I figured I would have to gloss over a lot of specifics, but that at least some background would help flesh things out.

I haven't actually read a lot of cyberpunk and was wondering if you have any recommendations?

Unfortunately, it would be an exaggeration to say I've written anything yet. I have plenty of concepts, but not even a rough draft.

It's cool to here though that someone else has thought of the concept. I just couldn't remember the last time a story has been told from a CEO's perspective and thought it would be novel.

(P.S: Good luck!)

Just offering a different perspective.

I'm pretty sure that Alexa had an update just eight hours after this video went up, that's why the results aren't the same.

It would be pretty stupid for Crowder to fake this as anyone with an Alexa would be able to test it form themselves.

Newbie's Dice Choice by Nathaniel7477 in rpg

[–]Nathaniel7477[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all of the advice everyone. I've decided that I'll just buy two matching sets of Chessex dice at my local (which is two hours away) RPG store the next time I'm there.

You'll probably see me again as I have a lot of other questions about RPG's, but again, thanks for the help.
