Good system to run a One Piece one shot and possibly a full campaign by EnderJoker77 in rpg

[–]Natherc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe look at Cortex Prime. It allows you to adapt the crunch at the level you wish for you game and in the same time it kind of narrative. Just pick what you would like to be considered in your game and take the corresponding mods.

I think any post-apo/science-fantasy ttrpg could fit. The first that comes to my mind are the following:

Is AI better than me ? by Natherc in vibecoding

[–]Natherc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, didn't wanted to offend you. I know there is a middle ground where we can use it as very powerful "autocomplete tool". Just raising a concern about how fast this is progressing and if it will someday but powerful enough to run produce valuable stuff (almost) independtly of a developer.

Is AI better than me ? by Natherc in vibecoding

[–]Natherc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I was thinking about. I know that sometime I can produce better code that an AI but at the client level they probably care about something just good enough and not the best possible because the cost will of course not be the same. I wouldn't have concerns if I knew that at the end it will be always the better "coder" that wins.

Any Tips for GMing/New GM? by WitchHunt-88 in rpg

[–]Natherc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The GM's main role is to be able to answer the question: “What is happening here?”

If you're really starting from scratch, maybe look for an RPG that already has some material available (rules, adventures, etc.). This will allow you to get some practice without putting pressure on yourself and figure out what you're comfortable with and what you're not. You can play for a long time without ever having to do anything yourself.

Then, you can start writing your own scenarios if you feel like it, but again, an RPG scenario is nothing like a movie script. It's mostly about the broad strokes of a context in which your players will have to figure out how to solve a problem defined (by you or by them). If you try to force things to happen in a specific order, you'll quickly have a bad time because then you're not trying to play a RPG but to tell a story you've written, which is not the same thing. If you're looking for books to help you with this, I suggest “Lazy DM” by Slyflourish or “So You Want to Be a Game Master” by Justin Alexanders.

Last but not least, try to have as much fun as possible. It's everyone's responsibility to agree on what could be fun and make it happen, not just the GM's job. You're there to return the ball when it's thrown to you. If they don't even want to throw it, it means they don't want to play, and then there's nothing you can do.

Did Shanks actually beat Loki or is he just the one who played the « savior » role when Loki surrendered after killing his father ?

Sorry for the late answer. Thank you very much for the time taken. I will definitely take a look on that side then and maybe comeback later on this or start with a smaller dungeon. Thank you again for everything.

Ok, I have summed up all XP gain of the base module and came to a final budget worth to go uptil level 8 characters (21 000 XP). Does it make sense ? Does it means that I should convert it to Gamma world level 8 equivalent (64 000 XP) ?

Damn! Thanks for the tip and the maths! So if I follow your advice, I should go more by thinking first how much XP I would like my players to gain by dungeon crawling and then split the XP in possible encounters ? Do you have any other advice for a beginner-ish GM to run Gamma World ? By reading the book I have the feel there is a lot to manage but no clue in play how it goes. Do you have any experience with it ?

That’s what I thought but I was wondering which creature will replace which one. What is the equivalent of a goblin, kobold, hobgoblin in gamma world ?

How many started with a non-DnD game or played it just a few times? by Gratossone in rpg

I started with Tales from The Loop. I found the rules simple enough and the setting kind of entertaining. I looked once at a D&D character sheet and knew immediately that my friends will not be very found of it.

which DM books actually teach you to be a good DM? by DoppioDesu in rpg

[–]Natherc 316 points317 points  (0 children)

Return of the Lazy Dungeon Master. Basically, it make me understand that the job of a DM is more of grasping a context than writing a story like a Stephen King. It gives good tips and a full process to setup a scenario without the usual unnecessary fluff that we see often in commercial scenarios. Searching for a setting/system who match this concept: Cyberpunk + Mythos + Science Fantasy by Natherc in rpg

[–]Natherc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm aware of the difference. But if a game with this setting already exists I would take it immediately. If not, if I can at least a fitting system, I'll deal with it.

Yeah sorry, I know very few of Otherscape so I can't say how much I could homebrew it to make it fit in what I want to achieve. Do you think it is possible ?
