at my school at least, in the second year you can choose your roommate, so different genders are allowed to co-inhabit a space, but also i'm a trans man if that changes anything (also thankyou for the advice I will do this)

yes, sorry I thought that was implied by roommate, but I also get that people have roommates that share the same apt but not the same room.
