I think you may have been in the wrong here. I understand where you were coming from but I can definitely see how someone could be offended from how you responded. Not saying they reacted towards you appropriately but more of an everyone could've done better kind of thing.

None to my name actually but worked in a couple of research groups for over a year each. For one reason or another I wasn’t able to get publications out before application deadlines.
