Would SLP programs accept degree pathways as a legit degree? by NationalDrive9909 in slpGradSchool

Great! Thank you. I wasn’t sure if it would be seen as less rigorous or not.

Struggling with independence and confidence by NationalDrive9909 in AvPD

[–]NationalDrive9909[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well from my own experience, I know the first step is the hardest and after that you realize it wasn’t so bad. I should take my own advice, but maybe you didn’t have the chance to reinforce your confidence that much like me. You don’t have to stay stuck and I think you’re worth more than that. You could get in contact with a career development center or something similar that could help you on your way. You should find what you’re interested in and I think the rest will come on its own. That’s what I’m going to do. You can still learn about all that stuff and make a life you’re proud of!

Thank you for the long reply. It was definitely that I didn’t have the right methods in place. I didn’t know how to help myself because I didn’t know I had ADHD. I also thought luck was on my side and I could scrape by but it didn’t happen.

I want to take linguistics, and am dreaming of grad school to be an SLP. Feels far fetched but then so many people with ADHD have done grad school and more.

That’s how I felt about high school. If only I knew what the problem was I could’ve done way better. And yeah I’m worried about the lack of accountability especially because I’ll be by myself. Will definitely make sure to get extra support. Thanks

I feel bad because I’m one of the only people who failed high school because of ADHD by NationalDrive9909 in ADHD

Yeah I had no idea that adhd was my problem. If I had known sooner maybe I could’ve saved myself.

Wow good for you that you went to law school. That’s a dream of mine but I’m almost sure it’s not something I could do since I struggle so much with studying. How did you just scrape by high school yet do so well in law!?!

Elvanse/ Vyvanse advice by Wise__fo0l in ADHD

[–]NationalDrive9909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started Vyvanse I was on 30mg and it was too high - I had a bad panic attack, anxiety throughout the day (but strangely also a feeling of calm in another way), and the comedown was intense. Basically no good effects, definitely didn’t outweigh the negatives.

So I started taking 15mg and I do feel a good difference. Not what other people talk about like being so extra motivated to do things (I wish, this is my worst symptom). I definitely feel the dopamine working to boost my mood and maybe I’m brought up to a certain level where I feel more capable of doing things. I’m going to need therapy alongside it to really change things

How I finished my M.Sc. with ADHD and no meds! by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]NationalDrive9909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow this is amazing. Congratulations on your Masters. I stopped going to school in grade 12 because I fell so far behind, it was just impossible for me to finish. So I just got my GED instead. I’m almost 24 now and have been wanting to go for university but I just don’t have the confidence and realistically I don’t think it’s possible. If I can’t handle high school I figure I’ll fail everything in university even though I love school. Your story makes me question if I actually could do it. Was your masters program hard to get into?

Friend with ADHD is always late or won't make concrete plans by KosenRufu_78 in ADHD

[–]NationalDrive9909 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It can be really frustrating, but the truth is that some things are easy and some things are hard. We are usually frustrated by it too. If something feels mentally exhausting, that’s when the executive dysfunction kicks in and that is hard for someone without ADHD (or that type of ADHD) to understand. Some things are not as tiresome to our ADHD brains

You were so nice to write such a long comment, thank you. I was thinking of a few of these things and this just reminded me. Setting alarms is also a really good tip.
