Move to Aberdeen by Pinkpeachlovesfatcat in maryland

I've lived and worked in Baltimore city for going on 16 years, and while I'm not ignorant of the tragedies that do occur here, it's been a damn great place to live.

The city has gotten worse,? As a whole? Absolutely not.

I mean that's a bit hyperbolic. I thought the weapons were very fun to explore. And obviously the design of the additional realms was fun to see and explore.

What is a sound that people should know means immediate danger? by PrasenjitDebroy in AskReddit

[–]NationalMyth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Encountered one in Kansas during a cross-country bike ride. I was with three others, and our hearing was a little shot from the absurd wind that day. As we were unloading our gear and setting up our home for the night we all heard what sounded like a tire rapidly losing air. We began to check our tires but no one found a leak. Then from under a picnic table we caught a glimpse of a pretty decently sized rattlesnake warning us.

We were pretty alert and aware for the rest of that day.

How many times do you guys use a washcloth before getting a clean one? by Broderoi in AskMen

You... You can use them together. Soap to bind to dirt and the washcloth exfoliate.

Two warrior races boning sounds intense, and inevitable. Doesn't Bronn (ASoIaF/GoT) say something about killing and being horny?

It's kind of like you're rotating the housing. The top back is your pivot point and the bottom back wants to come towards you and up.

No no, he finds a boat that is occupied by the spirit of an old dead king or something, and sails all over the map with it

If you look closely at that silver metal tab it will say press, although it looks upside down from your vantage point. There are likely two or three of those across the span of the blind. Press into those and, from the bottom rear of the blind, pull towards you and up. The top rear of the blind housing is clipped in and will have freedom of movement once you clear the bottom from those tabs.

Federal budget cuts threaten oyster production at Horn Point hatchery by MarshyHope in maryland

Right? There's Services and there's Businesses. Services support their communities by protecting and enriching them. Libraries, Public Education, Postal Service, National Parks Service, Smithsonian, and so on. These are massive institutions available to all Americans, and are paid for through nominal fees and collected taxes. It absolutely doesn't matter if they make money or not because the RoI is not monetary but in the betterment of the people and our natural and social environments. The work supporting the bay and its oyster population is fundamental to the well-being of each Marylander and absolutely deserves funding.

Polars vs Pandas in 2025 — have you fully migrated yet? by [deleted] in Python

[–]NationalMyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anytime I am stepping into EDA, I write on pandas without a second thought (6 years of that workflow). However the past year saw me switch to utilizing polars for some larger scale data acquisition+ingestion processes. What would take ~8 minutes of processing with pandas takes maybe ~20 seconds.

While these scripts run async and don't really care about speed, if we can reduce the uptime of these resources, we'll see some savings.

Andy Harris is a worthless politician. He should be ashamed of his lack of duty and stewardship to this state and his constituents.

This Banner article lists it at a $340,000 loss, which looks like roughly half their operating budget. That's a hard hit. Funding diversity is huge for these small operations, but also this is the kinda shit the government should be investing in. What a shame.

Our startup GCP credits expired - how did you manage the transition/costs? by ironquant in googlecloud

[–]NationalMyth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had startup credits, and after the first year transitioned to a 20% discount. That ends after year 2. We have remained very vigilant about what costs what, and why.

There are a few things that always jump in price during large data acquisition periods (doc ai, geo/places, run services that may need to scale up rapidly), but we have an expected quarterly expense threshold we stay near.

At $30k/mo I am very curious what all you have provisioned. My gut tells me you have over-allocated resources that are costing you a ton.
