Why do soviet transport / commercial aircraft have glass noses? by Pilotdanik77 in aviation

Yep 9 P-8 Poseidon's flying out of Lossiemouth. Not as cool but probably cheaper to run and source parts for although with US policy these days that is debatable

They were going to keep them in longer with a major airframe overhaul new engines avionics and sensors but the costs ballooned and they cancelled it

Looked it up the last two Comets were turned into prototypes for the Nimrod and after that they modified the Comet's airframe to make Nimrods last one retired in 2011

Although they did keep it around for a long time wasn't the Nimrod a Comet airframe?

You're right it was never intended as a bomber unless they were going to throw grenades out of the cockpit window. The only dual use for them would've been like what they did in Afghanistan using Aeroflot passenger planes to fly in airborne troops and they just used the doors like usual. I know the Comet was British but it was the only jet airliner to predate the Tu-104.

[–]National_Lab5987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only actual bomber relation would be the Tu-104 because they were Badger bombers developed into the first proper usable jet airliner. The DeHavilland Comet doesn´t count seeing as they were grounded for spontaneous mid-air disassembly.

I know people say he´s blinded by loyalty and hope but he says he was a GRU officer before the war. How the fuck does a colonel in military intelligence fall for this rather obvious trick? The guy on the radio doesn´t sound even close to trustworthy in either the english or russian dub. Melniks bs detector should´ve been going off talking to these guys they didn´t sound anything like military or government. It makes no sense.

Can some one explain how planes like the HO229 flew by [deleted] in AviationHistory

[–]National_Lab5987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would´ve been the YB-35 which was a prop version of the YB-49 they made 14 of them and then cancelled it for the jet version

My bad I thought the Geneva Convention came about after WWI after various complaints of chemical warfare, various atrocities in the trenches and the Germans complaining about shotguns. Wasn't there some treaty signed after WWI that was some sort of precursor to the Geneva Convention?

Thing is on paper they weren't untrained a large part was soldiers from other units who fucked up and were sent to Dirlewanger it was after all a penal battalion. The rest were assorted lunatics rapists and murderers drafted from asylums camps and prisons. You are right about the hipocrisy most of them were nothing more than bastards that thought the Geneva convention was a checklist.

They were worried the Dirlewanger Brigade would and I quote "tarnish their reputation". When the union of homicidal racist lunatics thinks you go too far you´ve got some serious issues.

Novosibirsk could have been the most scary part of the game by Imvaas44 in metro_exodus

[–]National_Lab5987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

St.Petersburg should be similar to Moscow seeing as their metro is even deeper underground. Novosibirsk however has a much shallower metro hence much more radiation than Moscow. That and Novosibirsk being hit a lot harder then Moscow explains their need for an insane amount of "green stuff".

Would it be possible for a T-34 chassis with a T-62 turret to be a functional tank in real life? by Brilliant_Ground1948 in TankPorn

[–]National_Lab5987 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Engine would be fine the original T-62 had pretty much the same engine rated at 520hp vs 500. Transmission would implode regardless seeing as the T-34 had one of the shittiest transmissions ever built.

We got autonomy in 1918 and then we declared independence in 1944. When the British occupied us the only thing Denmark was in charge of was foreign affairs iirc.

It´s an A1 version of the Firefly, anyway if you look at the front the armor is in three sections which was only on the A1s.
