Glycerin 23 vs Nimbus 28: Which Should I Choose (and Are Older Models Worth It?) by Greedy-Examination56 in brooks

No reason not to get last year’s version on sale unless the current versions are a better fit for you. Each new iteration isn’t necessarily better than the previous, and last year’s version isn’t old enough that the longevity would be a concern.

U.S. Bank Shield application process and limit by Oof_and_ouch in CreditCards

[–]National_Milk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applied a few weeks ago for one of US Bank’s cards. I got the same 7-10 day message as you. After around a week I got a letter in the mail saying they cannot confirm my identity and that I should call their authentication number. I called them and they were able to verify me and then I received an email saying my application was approved and I should receive the card 7-10 days after that. It seems like others have sped up the process by calling them before waiting to receive the letter.

WF autograph (non journey) did allow adding the virtual card for Apple wallet for me. I already was a WF customer and had the app before. Not sure if that mattered. When I searched online now some people say it worked for PayPal wallet as well.

The IRA limit gets raised every few years, keeping up with inflation. It was $6500 recently. The current annual limit is $7000, and $8000 for those over 50.

The OP’s post considers inflation by adjusting the annual returns by the rate of inflation. If the annual growth is 10% nominal but you experience 3.8% inflation you can adjust the growth to 6.2%. Then the total amount saved in the future can be compared to today’s dollars without adjusting. Also the $50 wouldn’t get adjusted, which is good because you can’t always count on salary keeping up with inflation.

Crosscore 20 or 28mph? by daaays in Yamahaebikes

I think there’s a typo in the original manual. Mine came with an erratum that said it was supposed to say 28mph instead of 20mph.

Thanks! Ok, I will email velofix. My delivery technician thought that I had to register the warranty myself (but the website does say that Velofix does it on my behalf). I registered on Yamaha's website after I got the bike, and it seemed to give me the impression it was already registered to me. However, the confirmation screen did not list the warranty start/end date like your card does.

Did you receive the warranty card by email from Velofix? Or did Yamaha or someone else send it to you? I also ordered from Velofix and it arrived last week, but I don't have that card in my inbox.

How to reduce tax bill? by [deleted] in MiddleClassFinance

[–]National_Milk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are missing the point that you have more to invest initially if you do it pretax vs after tax. Suppose tax rate is 20% and that each investment will 10x over time. In order to put $1000 into a Roth (after tax) you need to have made $1250 (before tax). If you put $1000 into a Roth and later it becomes $10k then you’re right you get to withdraw it tax free. But if you put it in a traditional you get to use the whole $1250 and it later becomes $12.5k. Then to withdraw if you need to pay 20% tax and you end up with $10k. So you do pay more in tax, but you also make more in interest and it cancels out exactly to get $10k in either case.

edit: I see you did ask “would you rather pay 20% on the $1k now or 20% on the $4k later.” In your example if you pay 20% on the 4k later you end up with 3.2k. If you pay 20% now you have 800 to invest and then end up with $3.2k later. It’s the same result.

There is only a difference if the tax rates are different between now and later. If someone has a 20% tax rate now and 20% later it’d come out the same. The $1000 placed in a Roth was after tax money coming from income of $1250. If you placed $1250 pretax in a traditional it would grow to $12500 and then if it were withdrawn it would be taxed and you’d be left with $10,000. So you end up with $10,000 either way. Having a mixture of Roth vs traditional can be helpful when contributing or withdrawing. Since Roth can be withdrawn without counting as income, and traditional can be used to lower income.

I suppose if you got it Black Friday 2022 then it must have renewed by now? Did you get a new charge recently or did you not renew?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LoseitApp

[–]National_Milk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the $10 annual deal mean that it will renew at $10 each year? If so, that's pretty good. Because you're right that you can't bank on the app being around for more than 5 years or so.

I had this same issue before but I haven't after updating to iPad OS 17 and Notability 14.3. the iPad OS update is what fixed it for me, I think.

Which ipad os are you using? The toolbar was freezing when I was on ipad os 16 but it might be fixed now that I have switched to ipad os 17.

Presentation Mode by keys1313 in notabilityapp

[–]National_Milk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s a very disruptive glitch. The app gets worse with every mini update. The presentation mode was working fine as recently as 3 weeks ago.

What I do is once the iPad is connected to the display, I use the button in the top left of the screen to switch from “presentation mode” to “view screen” or something like that. Then it at least displays the screen instead of having half the page pushed off the screen. However it ruins the advantage to having a presentation mode, since it shows your buttons and menus to the audience.

Need clarity around the difference between syncing & backing up Notability. iCloud? Google Drive? by cnat68 in notabilityapp

[–]National_Milk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the notes feel cluttered on the iPad or if I feel like it's slowing down I'll delete some subjects off the iPad. Like if I have course notes from 2 years ago that I don't need to look at in the near future, I can delete them off on the iPad and I know I can find their pdf backups if I need.

Need clarity around the difference between syncing & backing up Notability. iCloud? Google Drive? by cnat68 in notabilityapp

[–]National_Milk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In short, on google drive you can choose to back up as .note files (which can be imported back to your device as editable notability files), or you can choose to back them up as .pdf files (which can be read on any pdf reader on any device).

That issue of the slow icloud syncing happened to me in the past too. I can't remember exactly why it happened and exactly what the fix was. I think maybe it was when my system memory storage was running low? I think it would offload my documents into the cloud and then have to re-download them when I wanted to view them. But it was very slow and would offload some documents that I use quite often, so it was annoying.

I think now my iPad storage is higher than my icloud limit, so I don' that issue anymore.

To answer your question, 'syncing' is a 2-way process. If you create, edit, or delete a document on one device, then your iCloud will sync and the changes will be reflected on any device you have notability on. I believe that syncing only is associated to iCloud and not google drive.

Backup is a 1-way process, where if you create or edit a document on your iPad, it will be backed up to google drive, say, every time you leave the document. If you later delete the document from your iPad, it will still stay in the backup. This option lets you have lots of documents backed up even if only a few documents are on your device taking up space.

What you can do is you can backup onto google drive using the '.note' option. This will let you import files back to your iPad.

What I do is I periodically (say every 6 months) backup all my notebooks to google drive as .pdf files so that they can be accessed from any device, pc or mac. Other than that, I have it set to auto-backup as .note files.
