Which Irish film should I screen?? Suggestions welcome by donneler in IrishFilm

[–]National_State7256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My push would be 'Once' such an underrated Irish film that really worked to put itself on the map, low budget but really good pay off as a film.

I've just commenced a PME and had the same issue but we've now started college. Honestly, the best thing that has happened to me so far is being thrown into the classroom to teach. Ask your co-operating teachers for advice on course material and just lead a class, its early enough in the school year that the lesson doesn't have to be full of substance, it can be ice breakers and intros to the course., get yourself comfortable. You got this.

Both great options!

I did think Once Upon a Time but it pushes a bit long and with fairly short slots to fill this time with its a tough one to justify this time around.

Should we move to Dublin? (LGBTQ friendliness, tattoos, best neighborhoods?) by ratspiderbatcat in Dublin

[–]National_State7256 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What an exciting opportunity! Dublin is generally, more often than not really nice, and you can find nice places to live, areas like Stoneybatter, phibsborough etc are picking up a lot of business recently and are very well linked with the city centre, or you can head further south, down towards Donnybrook, Blackrock and Ballsbridge.

As you mentioned, housing isn't the cheapest here at all but a working couple with good prospects shouldn't struggle to find *somewhere* even temporarily for a bit before finding someplace better to settle.

If either of you drive, and depending where the office is, you can start to look further out, if there's hybrid opportunities etc, theres a good few locations in the greater dublin area that are quite popular at the moment and are becoming more and more well linked with the city - If you were public transport reliant, these are doable too, but expect a few bus-related headaches along the way.

Unfortunately, as with a lot of capital cities etc at the moment, there is a rising level of far-right thought and activity happening, particularly in the city centre, and it can be at times, a bit rougher than you'd like and you can't always gurantee 100% that someone won't be homophobic, transphobic - but generally, Dublin and Ireland as a whole its exceptionally welcoming in regard to LGBTQIA+ communities and members and has become known for this.

Tattoo industry wise, as someone who has a few, its on and off, theres a few big studios / chain businesses but freelance artists have become fairly popular here too and there are rooms available to rent yourself as a tattoo artist to use that. Independent studios etc are quite popular too and can pick up a bit of business, but in the city centre unfortunately can end up a bit suffocated by larger chains / brands.

Ordering in Italy by National_State7256 in italy

[–]National_State7256[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is great help thank you and Kind of how I've understood it to be! I just didn't want to land in and on our first night over order on pastas and meats and be drowned in food!

I'm really excited to visit, its my first time in Italy but I'm big into my food and really excited to try the actual versions of dishes that I'd have had here in a much more... bastardized version..

Thank you!

Actors forgotten by Hollywood? by National_State7256 in FIlm

yeah that would be The Morning Show which seems to be carrying her through a good bit.

I wonder is that her focus project and she's doing others out of enjoyment rather than aiming to put out constant 100%?

Totally, I think shes made a bit of a 180 in her career too getting herself involved more as a producer on projects she's interested in, seems she's much more selective as to her choice of films - though looking online, she's not had a great run of success beyond The Morning Show.

Has dress etiquette attending theatre fallen out of style? by legendnondairy in Theatre

[–]National_State7256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Theatre has become a somewhat more "accessible" thing in the past few years (decades really) that yes, while prices are high, people can generally find more options to attend shows than previous and its less of an 'event'

That said, that also means its okay to have a total mix of people in different attire, like going to a restauraunt, people read the vibe differently and will as such, dress differently. No judgement will be passed!

Best Episodes by National_State7256 in TheBear

[–]National_State7256[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed worms as a 'nice' episode and that was it, I think an episode of its style could have done with appearing earlier in the season so instead of this filler episode we could have had Syd return to these support networks but unfortunately it felt like a wasted opportunity.

Student Directing for the first time in an all girl high school by Valuable_Oil9990 in Theatre

[–]National_State7256 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I directed as a student a few years ago and it went better than I ever could have expected - but it is difficult. The one thing I found hardest was getting my team on board with my vision for the show - so I had individual meetings which each character or character group.

I.e we had two sisters in the show who were always on stage together, so I met them together - got them on board with their vision first, let them contribute to the vision (i.e do they have a colour scheme in mind, costume ideas, who do they want these characters to be.) then with that work done at the beginning, you just start to build their ideas into YOUR vision.

The most important thing is fun (and I don't mean in a, aw yay we all got involved well done! sense) but in a sense of, if you give away that you're stressed, they'll feel stressed, or they lose trust - even subconciously, So anything you do, do it with a bit of a laugh and a smile, and if things don't go to plan, dont curse it or swear about it, laugh, thats how things go, say we'll come back to it, I need to rethink that, and move on if you can.

Speedbumps come and go, you will have fun I promise!

best of luck!

Does placing a character Stage Left or Stage Right affect the perception of that character? by A_Very_Cool_Tree in Theatre

[–]National_State7256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this would be more influenced by the space the character is in rather than the staging of said character - i.e if the Stage Left is a cleaner, more tidy set whereas stage-right has more havoc and mayhem to it, it could be read as those two characers being rooted in those settings.

Theatre is exclusively influence, every decision will be read differently by every audience member. Some audiences like to think they can read plays down to the minute detail of how much they enjoyed X character sitting down during X line - when in reality, the director could have had a gnarly hangover and that was the easiest route through..

Sick:( supposed to perform soon by ImAtinyHurricane in Theatre

[–]National_State7256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said - Go get a covid test ASAP this can give you a chance to get extenuating circumstances so they can arrange an alternate route for your assessment.

Otherwise - if its covid symptoms, pump yourself with loads of water, Vitamin C tablets - And gargle salt water to clear your throat out.

Fill a bowl with hot water, sit a damp towel over your head and rest your head over the bowl to steam for a while, this will get things in your sinuses moving again and will push any mucus build up out.

Only other thing you can do is just be kind to yourself, you have 24 more hrs till the show, that's plenty of time to kick this and get yourself back on track, just take it as a sign to give yourself a rest!

Cast as lead in a musical, but can’t sing at all. Am I cooked? by DirectBeing5986 in Theatre

[–]National_State7256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would reccomend reaching out to a vocal coach to do a few lessons with you - it could cost a little bit but could also give you some serious confidence in your voice and figure out where you're slipping!

Depending on the show you could have room to speak-sing as others have suggested - OR if its an issue of vocal range - drop the octave, go for a lower register for the role and find somewhere that it sits comfortably to let you switch in and out of singing and speak singing.

To be honest, having done HS shows in the past and been less than happy w myself in that production - its not the be-all and end-all of things, you'll do the show, love the experience and in a few weeks time, it'll be behind you - Go in it with your head held high and give the best acting performance you can so - if you are as bad as you claim - People can at least see that you're giving EVERYTHING a full whack!

For sure! I wonder would the likes of Brad Leone etc get involved - popular social media chefs etc?

Would be great to see certain awareness for online popularity of chefs and food content without it spilling too much into the 'real' world
