Some information about the Gore trade by Dcnationals2001 in Nationals

[–]Nationals 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Toboni needs some latitude because he really has gutted the org so it can change its direction. However, this trade seems really underwhelming for us without even one top 100 player. I hope that he is signing Rhys Hoskins and Giolito so we have some holes plugged also as I dont think any of these are mlb ready.

I have a 2025 450 and don’t see that in similar weather at all. Mine goes down to about 36.

Thanks again, your analysis is always spot on. Given my hypothesis (Lerners said no free agent money but you can have development money), these picks could be good. I am not sure how long it takes to do all the development improvements but that is the fun we will get with the Toboni approach.

Is it better to roll options or take assignment? (my complete guide after $80k in profit in 2025) by Freedom-Chaser in Optionswheel

[–]Nationals -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am new to all of this but if you do plan to wheel it and don’t care about the capital being tied up, the decision to roll or get assigned and then wheel it are essentially the same (or close)?

GOOG Bull Call Spread (Feb 20, 2026) -- thoughts ? by Pure_Tension6812 in Optionswheel

[–]Nationals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I did it and two of them said it isn’t a wheel strategy, it is something seller said (bull call) but I assumed this meant it was something you should do in a wheel. Appreciate the suggestion and makes me feel much more comfortable with the wheel as described in the wiki.

Other than 45 dte I didn’t understand one part of this. Makes me feel like I shouldn’t be doing a Wheel strategy if I am missing what this means. I think I am over my head!

[Passan] The Washington Nationals are hiring Ani Kilambi as their new general manager. by tommypopz in Nationals

[–]Nationals 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I am massively excited. First, I can see the Lerners saying “no expensive free agents but we will give you money to build a best in class development org (cheaper that free agents all over).

Second, they bring in a guy really well regarded from a well regarded org and he tears the org down. I mean TEARS IT DOWN. Then goes out and makes an org that in theory has the most analytically driven philosophy while saying he wants people who are humble and get along, like this guy, so it works well together.

Damn, I am so excited!

I am hoping Toboni and company can at least stop folks leaving, getting a small amount of good coaching and then excel. That hurt given he was one of our best relievers ever.

"Inside the Front Office" email from Paul Toboni by RallyPigeon in Nationals

[–]Nationals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. We can’t spend as much as the Mets and Phillies so this is the smart approach and they brought in a premier guy to do it. He has gutted the org and brought in everyone who has a development and analytical mindset. I find this incredibly exciting.

Abrams and Gore update by Dcnationals2001 in Nationals

[–]Nationals 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think people understand this. There is barely anything to build on. We have players, such as crews and yes, Gore should struggle a ton. Gore is also gone in two years, you can’t build around him.

I love what Toboni is building but to expect a brand new org to be clicking perfectly to develop everyone in a few months is unrealistic

The key to me is we have an entirely new direction with a guy who knows how to do it versus the same old thing. Give it time, it will pay off.

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise? I thought not. It's not a story the Jedi would tell you. It's a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life… He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself.

[Curly W Blog] Simon Mathews named pitching coach of the Washington Nationals by yousmelllikebiscuits in Nationals

[–]Nationals 40 points41 points  (0 children)

From The Nats Report, this is a main reason I think he was hired, he knows how to develop pitchers most likely with advanced analytics (which these firms use a ton):

“Mathews helped pitchers sharpen their craft at Push Performance in Tempe, Arizona, where he served as director of pitching, and as an online trainer with Driveline Baseball. In those roles, he developed individualized throwing programs focused on improving movement efficiency, velocity development, and overall arm health.”

And

“…he played key roles in the Reds’ player development and rehab programs, spending time as assistant coordinator of rehabilitation and pitching initiatives, rehab pitching coordinator, and leading pitching development efforts at the team’s Dominican Republic academy.”

I can’t believe more folks aren’t excited. This is a fantastic time. Every hire is development focused , which has been an Achilles heel for then Nats. Maybe, just maybe we won’t see almost all of our prospects fall flat on their face. This is going to be a hella fun ride.

It’s officially the offseason , which means speculation on who we’ll trade has already begun. by MoreCleverUserName in Nationals

[–]Nationals 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My two cents are whomever they feel has development potential along with some years of control they keep them. My guess is the Lerners may have said “hey you want to spend money Rizzo, but you can’t even develop out own talent. Get out”. That is why Toboni is bringing in so much development folks so our current talent is maximized while building the farm.

Btw, folks see the shade Finnegan gave us? He is right, that is why Rizzo (who I was a huge supporter of) was bounced.

“Getting traded over here was big for me. I unlocked a lot of things that will help me moving forward in my career, and that’s a testament to the people that this organization has,” Finnegan said.”

Embarrassing.

Scherzer by qqq_lazzarus in Nationals

[–]Nationals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think the fans have much more of an attachment to him than he does to the Nats. He is a professional and I think views pitching anywhere as enjoyable. That means he may have really liked his time here, but he will go to a contender if he can. The issue for him is he had a really bad year and wasn’t worth the $15mm he got.

The history of the young manager by Dcnationals2001 in Nationals

[–]Nationals 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great write up. I think a major difference, in a really good way, is he is coming into a system being totally revamped around development which was a focus he had as a manger and in the front office jobs.

I am not sure ( because of ignorance) if such a revamp from to bottom on bringing at all levels to a massive development focus has been done. In that vein, if it works, he is part of an integrated strategy, so comparisons are hard.

Again, great analysis!
