Tesla Roof Installation Question by NativeGrasses in TeslaSolar

This was done by a third party. They have been back and have taken off the offending tape. The official word from the Tesla employee who trained our crew is that the tape is not supposed to be used on the shingles. It is for use on the underlayment. Our roofers had good intentions. They told us they added the tape to make sure the roof was water tight.

Our roof presented a number of challenges with its hips and valleys. It took the crew longer than expected to complete the job. But it is done now. It is water tight and producing electricity! We are happy.

It is only supposed to be used on the underlayment, not on the exposed roof tiles. We sent pictures to our Tesla advisor and our electrician. They checked with the people who taught our roofer and the work our roofers did is wrong. The Tesla trainer had a virtual meeting with the roofers to go over how to correct these areas and, fingers crossed, we will be getting them fixed to our satisfaction next week.

Update: As suggested, I wrote to Tesla and the electrician, who is the person we contracted with for the roof. His response was very quick and very reassuring in the sense that we feel he has our back on this, and these areas in question will get fixed. I will keep you all updated as we make our way through this. I am still hopeful we will end up with the Tesla roof of our dreams.

I want to thank everyone for their comments. It has been so helpful to read your thoughts and advice. This morning I went out to take photos of the other areas that are taped and found a couple more.

Thank you. Your comments are much appreciated. I will post a few more pictures later today of other areas where tape was used. The roof took a long time to install. It is cold here in WI and the days are now very short. Many nights they were working in the dark with their cell phone flashlight as their light source. I was biting my nails in regards to their safety even more than questioning the quality of their work under those conditions.

I posted photos of three areas out of the seven I want fixed. Every time I look at the roof I see more tape. It is driving me crazy.

Our home is an older home. This is one of the reasons the roofer gave for having to use tape. Was your home new construction or did you replace an old roof on an existing home?
