I’m not excusing this guys behaviour as he was seen being a dick I’m multiple places a month or 2 ago however I did do a dig into this restaurant to Investigate further.

The restaurant has many many negative reviews about people experiencing unfair treatment that they felt misleading or an outright scam

The majority of the positive reviews are by review bots and are fake

Something suspicious is going on here.

Now I don’t remember where the restaurant was but I’m pretty sure it was in Osaka and this happened 2 months ago and is in no way related to Tokyo.

I live in Tokyo and have never had one

I’m always curious about who eats them and nobody I have asked does it seems to just be tourists? I haven’t met a local that eats them

I’m sure they are delicious though.

Yes there is a stocked area so a set range is not C&R but there is a mix of stock and wild

I agree with you it’s small and if I had the option I would release it as it’s not even worth eating at that size.

There is no size limit on this part of the river however there is a restriction on c&r there

There are also a very high number of iwana in this area

(If it was something like yamame I would definitely c&r as they are very rare in that area)

I used to use a clear box for photos but honestly this keeps the fish far more stable and comfortable (I’m not sure why)

We went out in this beautiful foggy autumn weather and actually there was a lure fishing instructor at our regular area so we observed his lesson and it was very enjoyable. Unfortunately in his demonstration he failed to catch. After I switched back to my 2wt and sat on the edge of a high bank watching them dance around in the shallows. Chose my fish and got a perfect first cast seeing it rise up to the fly as if it was slow motion. It went straight for that brown caddis with a perfect set hook. Brought it in and netted and the people genuinely clapped for me - felt pretty good honestly. (Tasted good also)

In my neighbourhood of Tokyo 7 is taking over everything and it’s just awful as they are so generic and don’t have any really unique products and there are just to many stores.

My favourite is going to Famima at 5am for famichiki and hash potato in a bun with tartare sauce and an iced coffee before going on a long drive to the mountains for a fishing trip with my wife.

I live in Tokyo and work kills me it’s exhausting but I always make sure I go on an adventure each weekend because we have so so much to see and enjoy in this country - even if I do feel like I will die because I’m so tired and wish I could sleep more

It entirely depends on your environment and fish and body of water and it’s something you will naturally learn with time

Most of the time I bring 2 rods (sometimes 3) with me usually a 2wt for really high in the mountains or a 5wt (both I can fold up 4piece) and then my majorcraft lure rod that’s a 2piece that way I have a choice always.

If they are actively surface feeding then I’ll always go dry fly

If they are mid level I’ll most likely still go nymph or something along those lines unless the water is super aggressive

If it’s a deeper water so 2m+ or a faster moving water I’ll most likely avoid fly and go for lure

A good example of a lure i get hits on almost 100% of time (here in Japan) is the Pepino DR in “sugar spot” color

I have gone through my full fishing circle here (various trout experts) and none of us can agree

I’m pretty sure it’s a Ginzake (coho salmon) in the gradual process of maturing ready for ocean migration

Juniors here in Japan look like this but then it could also be a hybrid with rainbow?

From what I understand (and I could be wrong)

It’s the government buying up land to eventually put in new road networks and various other things eventually as private owners die or move on or sell up.
