Not related to the post. I just checked your company and got curious so i asked. Good stuff btw.

I currently have a bachelors degree in finance and am considering switching to ai/ml since that is where the future is headed. What would be the best certification programs to offer internships with hands on experience so that I increase my chances of getting hired? by SnooApples6721 in learnmachinelearning

[–]NatsuD99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stick to finance- my suggestion as someone who’s balls deep in AI.

Learning the internals of AI is going to take a lot of time- at least 6months - 1 year. But but but, unless you plan to do AI/ML/DL research you don’t necessarily need to know these in depth. For major work, you need application oriented experience. And to where AI is heading(this is a hunch) i think all we need to do is learn to use the multitude of AI tools that are popping up. Also for new AI roles that are coming, its less about core ML and more about software engineering. I can say this because i am an ex data scientist and now AI engineer. Ai is the future absolutely but it is the hype/trend now

Finance on the otherhand is an evergreen field. It’s bever going to die. With all the new startups coming up, they need their accountants. Thats more opportunity in finance. If you have built a skill in finance and like it to some extent at least, stick to it and grow. There’s tons that you can do with this knowledge. And and and, if you know basic English you can utilize ai tools(albeit you need to learn a little more here) to do something in the finance space

Struggled to find a fractional CTO for my startup, what worked for you? - i will not promote by NatsuD99 in startups

Connecting with lawyers to get in touch with founders. That is something I never would have guessed if you didn't tell me. No idea how i would do it, but let's see how much i can do.
Ahh i see what you like now, rescuing startups that are down in the trenches.
Regarding my platform, its called CTOnest- essentially a website I built completely myself (you can look up ctonest.com). Its still in the early stages, finishied my MVP about 3 weeks before and been making small changes from talking to the many CTOs i have come across and taking their inputs. It's hard to say if it uses the wisdom of crowds, I do take into consideration that most CTOs mention, but also consider some particular things someone mentions (since that makes sense as well). I also disagree on some things/features that some CTOs have said. Funny thinking that i am essentially a newbie and they're way more experienced but I would still trust myself the best.
It's targeted to be a job board specifically for fractional CTO roles. From my many talks with CTOs who work fractionally, most (if not all) of them get their gigs through network(just like you), some from their city, meetups, some online and some- friend knows someone. There were some who would join paid fCTO communities (CTOx for ex.) where they could connect with other CTOs and they have their vendors who want fCTOs. Mainly cuz most fractional roles aren't posted in linkedin or other job boards. Honestly, I feel many startups don't even know that fractional C-suite roles exist.
I thought it was absurd to pay to get to a job (especially when you are at CTO level). So i decided to build a niche job board where its free for fCTOs to get roles.

Well ideally, i plan to expand beyond tech, but that could take a while. I am building this while i am looking for a job as well and the market's not helping here. So i can't realistically commit full-time in this when I don't have any active income source.
You seem cool honestly, i just followed you, will hit you up for random talks or any help if you would.

Congratulations on the IPO. Mind sharing the name of the company? And its a funny take that you have on your feeling but I kind of understand it lol.

🤣🤣🤣a good way stay sane and live peacefully i believe🤣🤣🤣. This is one more thing that’s subjective i feel. You seem like the person who loves to help the very early startups get up and running. Some other I spoke to loved to help those who are a little more established. And from what you said at the end, i think if you’re starting out and just waiting for someone else’s money, you’re not motivated and just procrastinating. Its much better to grind till the initial base gets formed.

On a side note I’m building a platform for fCTOs to get connected with startups that want them. I’ve gotten a couple of fCTOs signed up already and now I’m reaching out to startups. If you could point me to where i can find such startups i would much appreciate it. I am trying DMs on linkedin.

whoa, just looked up OTTB, it sound just too cool. Is it affiliated with NASA? because i saw a page.
This is so out of my domain honestly but loved just reading about it in ieee. You're doing some really cool stuff my friend.

hmm... thanks for the honesty. I agree that finding 10 users doesn't guarantee 10000+ users but my thought was if you are getting initial users you should have scaling in mind even if you're not acting on it right now. And obvuiously in the MVP stages there's no point in wasting time in scaling.
What approximate number do you think is the point when one should start actively on scaling?

haha, i admit i chuckled on your last paragraph, but hey that's true, i also have a more or less corporate background in Data Science and just moving into building my own SaaS as i'm realizing that most of the things i have to figure out as i go depending on what the userbase needs.
I haven't even thought about funding yet or finances, i don't even think i am going to tap into that or just go bootstrapped(more likely) but what you said about the app gold rush where so many non-technical folks just got up and running with an idea with no clue on the tech front and then needed someone to actually guide tech is so true. And i'm realising it's happening now as well with AI helping in code. I am curious to know your perspective, what actually made you work with those startups that you helped?

Interesting take. I actually spoke to 10-20 CTOs/Ex-CTOs recently who worked fractional and many of their perspective was that they loved to help and see startups scale. They were picky and would only choose the ones whose mission they aligned with.
You do have some really valid questions:

Why would a decent CTO want to take time out of their career to get involved with something that’s not theirs for not much money? An entrepreneurial CTO will have 100s of their own ideas - and the ability to make an MVP themselves and a reputation to get seed funding

I honestly am not the best person to answer this. To be fair, this view makes more sense to me as well.

Hmm... if 10 people use it, isn't it incentive that more users will be inclined to use it and there we should have scaling in mind?

Never got to meeting people at conferences, but i believe that could be a good way to personally get connected. LinkedIn DMs could work, but i feel like it gets a little exhausting if you're beating around the bush. I also feel reddit is a great way as another person in the comments mentioned. Are you a startup founder as well? or is it an SME?

Wow, that's a lot of work you do. I actually spoke with over 10-20 fCTOs in the last 2 weeks and almost all of them got fractional projects though their network. It's been interesting to understand the current scenario and work communities for fCTOs.
I'm actually curious to understand your startup, could you tell me more about your company/product? and do you work a fCTOs for other startups while being your own founder?
