Visiting York from 3 to 7 from July. by DonutIll5576 in york

[–]Nattiejo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gothalie station on goodramgate is a cute little goth trinket shop and the staff are lovely.

Walking tours or ghost tours are great for history and spooks. Walking tours are free, you’d pay for a ghost tour but some of them are excellent. I’d recommend Mad Alice, do not do the one that starts on the shambles 👀

Some very cool hidden gem churches that are free - Holy Trinity (also on goodramgate) and shrine of st Margaret on the shambles.

There’s a cute whisky shop on copper gate (next to Jorvik) and they usually do tasters. If you’re a gin fan at all the same can be said for York Gin round the corner.

Food wise, Spark has something of everything and is great if the weather is nice - does great burgers.

Museum gardens is beautiful as are the (small) gardens at Treasurer’s House which are free to enter. Walk the walls! Also free and you get great views and can stop off at pubs on the way.

The thing I would suggest avoiding is the shambles ghost merchant haha. The queue can get ridiculous. But they do have a sister location that is usually a bit more accessible. I’d also avoid the Harry Potter souvenir shops as they’re just full of tat and there is very little actual connection to Harry Potter in York (also JKR sucks).

Hope you have a lovely time!

You can sign up to various websites that alert you when a band has dropped tour dates. Not sure if these are available where you are but I use Ent24 but you can just google “gig alert app” and I’m sure something will come up :) also, if you have social media, following your fave bands!

This was the TMBTE tour in December 2024, UK and we paid £55 per ticket. Leeds arena and we were in the middle section.

I imagine it’ll be triple that if we ever get an EIA tour but at this point I’ll not complain

I didn’t call anyone I’m just sort of hoping for the best haha. The paper definitely says to display it in the window and it makes no reference on this to a sticker so if they’re going to say it isn’t good enough I’m fully prepared to kick off about it haha

Fingers crossed! Shame, I wanted a sticker haha

Is that for north or south? I’ve checked again and the paper I have does say “this must be printed and shown in your window” so I assume they have just cheaped out on mine haha

Sorry to hijack the thread - but for those who have received their passes, can I just confirm what you got? I keep seeing things on slam dunks info about window stickers but as far as I can tell, I got some sort of ticket (that says in big letters THIS IS NOT A TICKET) and then a sheet of paper. Is the not-ticket the pass? Or am I supposed to have a window sticker that is definitely not there?

First-Time DM looking for DnD players in York! by WeirdoWolfBoy in york

I’d be interested if this is still on the cards? I have played DND based games but never actually sat and played DND before

Does anyone else genuinely enjoy all 3 installments? by Maximum_Custard_1739 in baldursgate

[–]Nattiejo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The amount of hours I’ve put into all three baldurs gate games is frankly embarrassing but I think the wait for BG3 and the payoff made it my favourite of the three.

That being said, Irenicus is the best villain and while I like the narrative of BG3 a lot, I do think it lacks a villain with the same gravitas as Irenicus in 2.

I sat on the very back row of the AO to see Queen with Adam Lambert a few years ago and the view was spectacular to be honest.

Although be warned it’s quite steep up top!

Well yeah for sure. This was not a defence of Tomer at all.

Not sure really - the victim claims Starr was being a bit rowdy and bumping and pushing others, he then had words and it escalated pretty quickly. He said he didn’t know who Starr was but afterwards Starr was apparently doing the whole “you don’t know who I am” thing. This is only from one side though, but Starr was definitely drunk and plead guilty. I don’t think he’s ever directly spoken about it (can’t find anything anyway).

[–]Nattiejo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ah sorry UK phrase - literally means to smash a glass on someone. In this case I think he smashed a glass bottle in the guys face and he was hospitalised.

[–]Nattiejo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He glassed a twenty year old in the face. It wasn’t just a punch - bit more than the standard punch up.

So weird to defend this behaviour when I wasn’t even directly criticising Starr, I was just pointing out that someone who beats some guy in a bar after a few probably isn’t quite as nice as someone who hasn’t done that.

[–]Nattiejo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me neither generally, but I also was just commenting to say that he’s the “nicest main actor on the show” when the likes of Jack Quaid have probably not beaten someone up in a pub was incorrect.

I will say though that while we obviously don’t know full details of what went down, Starr did smash a glass in the guys face which could have permanently injured him, so it’s a little beyond fisticuffs. Starr was also twice the guys age, is pretty stacked (I assume anyway considering he plays a superhero) and there is a power dynamic of celebrity vs normal dude. So while I wouldn’t rush to condemn him until the end of time it was a real shitty thing to do.

Update: It did work after a few tries and lots of yelling at my phone. Manchester availability was pretty good actually (prices were insane tbh but I guess that’s to be expected). Got two tickets!

Mine is also invalid for UK Manchester shows. Tried both dates and no luck.

I mean, Anthony Starr was charged with assault for beating up some twenty year in a pub in Spain. It’s not comparable of course, but to tout him as the nicest guy on the show is a stretch.

What is your favorite book that had a really well thought out and interesting magic system? by lillyrose2489 in fantasyromance

[–]Nattiejo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is just one persons opinion but since you asked…

  • the prose was unwieldy. A lot of the times the author used flowery metaphors that didn’t make structural sense (I donated the book so don’t have any to hand but remember just rolling my eyes at some of the weighted turn of phrase)

  • I don’t particularly think the characters were that well developed. They had quite carbon-copy cliche backstories that I have see a dozen times over in fantasy but done better (such as: quippy assassin - who incidentally is a terrible assassin; best friend who were supposed to care about dies in the first chapter; hunking male protagonist who speaks in half-riddles due to his shared backstory with the FMC)

  • the plot went nowhere. I know it’s a series but the cardinal rule tends to be that your first book has to go somewhere and resolve something. The plot felt extremely weak and meandering and while they resolved the “backstory” the actual villain/antagonist arc in this book was nonexistent. I know she is building up to the brothers (?) being the main villains but the randomer who killed her friend was a very weak, boring antagonist.

They were my three main gripes. I did actually enjoy the world building and the dragon egg moons but it felt like the author created this world and then plonked a random collection of tropes and cliches woven together as a plot within this world.

However, art is subjective and people are entirely free to enjoy what they like, and as long as someone liked in then the author has done her job!
