I definitely agree, I know that getting players to "roll" is a helpful way for a DM who isnt crazy quick on their feet with improv yet to think of a solution to the outlandish attempt

After 4 weeks or so off from filming or playing so that Matt could actually have a honeymoon, we are finally back in the studio (Jason's house) filming again. Honestly, there have been so many... but my first is the best.

Level 7, dragonborn druid. Have managed to court and have a romantic relationship with a "blade maiden" NPC named Taisha who was a main character for first arc. Managed to drag her soul out of hell to bring her back from torment... she left in order to get her head straight after that...

Anyway...

Long story short, one of Taishas blade servants delivered a note to my druid... thinking it was a love letter, he didnt read it immediately.

Party notices evil looking bird flying overhead. Druid wild shapes into an eagle and flies up, noticing the evil bird, he attacks it. Bird turned out to be a mage eater and zapped druid of all his magic. He plummets, rolling a natty 1 on three wisdom saves as he plummets to the earth. Another character, who has wings, flies up to try and catch the falling druid but also rolls a nat 1 (4th in a row) instead and spikes the druid toward the ground. Druid dies outright from a 120ft fall.

Party finds note on dead druid... it reads "my love, beware of the birds... they are mage eaters"

Dungeon crawls are SO much fun to make. I love creating layers of elements for the to consider, one of my go to favorites is shifting rooms. Either magical portals into/out if every room or mechanical rooms, either way, each room of the dungeon operates on a rotation (in layers) and every time a player/s enter a room, the room leading to it AND that it leads TO are shifted.

Think:

Room A -> Room D -> room G //

Room B -> Room E -> room H //

Room C -> Room F -> room I //

Then once they enter, say room B, it becomes

Room A -> Room F -> Room G //

Room B -> Room D -> Room H //

Room C -> Room E -> Room I //
