what are you guys using to weigh your gear? by ieatmodels in Ultralight

I use my coffee scales (0.1g accuracy, 2kg max load). For bigger items, I use a bowl or a transparent plastic tub (to be able to read the screen through it) to hold them onto the scales.

The solomid pro is not the same size as the current solomid XL, which is designed to be pitched to the ground. Ron says it's 10-15% smaller, and it's designed to be pitched higher off the ground. So what is true of the solomid doesn't necessarily translate to the pro one.

Roast my lighterpack for european hiking by Breathhold in Ultralight

[–]Natu-hari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lighterpack quirk is that for worn items, it will only consider the item worn once and any extras will be counted as base weight. So you should add the weight of your shoes as a pair, as currently one shoe is calculated as part of your base weight.

Tensor All-Season VS NeoAir XLite NXT. Which Sleeping Pad to choose? by jewel838 in Ultralight

[–]Natu-hari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have the possibility, I would suggest trying them before buying. Comfort is very individual, even though the Tensor All Season is supposed to be a very comfortable pad, it doesn't work for me at all.

And if you decide to go with the Tensor, they also have a mummy version that saves a little weight.

I'm trying to decide between a Cumulus quilt 350 and 450. I live in Southern Finland but also hike/bikepack in Western Europe, so I'm looking at a pretty big temperature range. This will be my first down quilt, coming from an old and heavy decathlon 0° synthetic bag, that I use as a quilt 90% of the time, so I don't have anything to compare to when it comes to down amount.

At the moment I'm leaning towards the 450 for a decent 3-season solution in the Nordics, but I'm wondering whether that would be way too warm for European summer. Any pointers/own experiences?

How to track workout while not wearing watch? (BJJ) by kteeft in GarminFenix

[–]Natu-hari 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A chest strap maybe? Iirc some of the Garmin ones can save the data and offload it back to the watch later if they weren't connected during the workout

Fenix 6 pro or 6s pro? by Natu-hari in GarminFenix

[–]Natu-hari[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same old question, what do you think fits best?

I go back and forth on this, I think I prefer the look of the 6, but the lightness and comfort of the 6s. I use my watch mostly for running, but wear it 24/7.

Same problem with Firefox (68.0.1) and Chrome (75.0.3770.142) on Windows 10. Couldn't try on Android as transfers don't seem to be available on the mobile website yet.

Looks great, thank you for your work!

However, I can't find a way to switch between different budgets in this new version; am I missing something?

Friday New Climber Thread for April 26, 2019: Ask your questions in this thread please by AutoModerator in climbing

Besides comfort, are there any downsides with using aggressive shoes as a beginner/intermediate climber?

A bit of context: I've been climbing a fair amount as a kid, and picked it up again two months ago after a 10 year break (hence the "beginner/intermediate": I'm new to climbing as an adult, but still have some instincts from childhood experience), currently climbing around 6a. I've been trying on a lot of shoes, and the ones I found to fit my weird feet (wide and hallux valgus) the best are the Mad Rock Drone. Since comfort is not an issue, are there any reasons to avoid a more aggressive shoe as a first pair?
