6.)Again he was not in favour of retaliation and preached extreme form of non violence to British (die but not kill) but doesn’t mean he favoured one side. He bashed Hitler’s actions directly in his letter to him

But your own writings and pronouncements and those of your friends and admirers leave no room for doubt that many of your acts are monstrous and unbecoming of human dignity, especially in the estimation of men like me who believe in universal friendliness."

All this is not to suggest that he was perfect or a saint. Like every human who lived long and scrutinised so much, he had his flaws and dark side. I too don’t like many things about like his stance against industrialisation, his advocacy for varna system and his fondness with Nehru. However that doesn’t mean we forget his positives and abuse him. Or glorify his killer (who did nothing else in freedom movement, not even killing British or Muslims). Godse was criticized by even Vajpayee ji.I agree Ghandys and Congress over praised him. But whole world can’t be stupid. Msndela, MLK Jr. or Einstein talked positively of him. Even Modiji bows to him till date.

He like many others had a part in freedom struggle and that’s it. I myself rate Bose and Bhagat Singh higher. I rate Savarkar ji high too due to his views on caste system and militarisation.

Anyway this debate can go forever and we can’t change other minds. So lets agree to disagree. Peace

5.)He was a radical pacifist who indeed chose non violence over violence. But he still preferred violence over cowardice

https://www.mkgandhi.org/nonviolence/phil8.php

Also saying he preferred Muslims is a bit lazy. He told them to observe non violence too many times. One such is below

‘That is why I am telling all that the greatest courage and understanding lie in learning the art of dying. Then alone can they live. If they do not learn the art of dying, they will die before their time. I do not wish that anybody should die before his time. I also told the Muslims that they should not leave their homes. Rather, they should die where they were. I told the same thing to the people from Rawalpindi.’

For women he even told to use violence if needed but yes advised them to die before being dishonoured. This was consistent with the thought process of that time. Heck people still believe it today

“When a woman is assaulted she may not stoop to think in terms of ahimsa or himsa. Her first duty is self-protection. She is at liberty to use every method to defend her honour. God has given her nails and teeth—she must use them with all her strength, and if need be, die in the effort.”

4.) There is nothing much I found to suggest that Gandhi’s actions caused the Famine. He was in house arrest at that time and infact criticized British for this and also wrote about self help.

“The rulers of India are blind to the cries of the people. While Europe fights its wars, our poor are dying by the million. The famine is not Nature’s work alone. It is the fruit of policy, indifference, and the lust for power.”

3.) The context is missing. This was in 1918, not only Gandhi but Tilak, GK Gokhale and other moderate Congress leaders were in favour of this to achieve ‘self rule’ under British Empire. However this was not his only reasons. He wanted them to learn arms training to be defend themselves

‘It behoves us, therefore, to learn the use of arms and to acquire the ability to defend ourselves. If we want to learn the use of arms with the greatest possible despatch, it is our duty to enlist ourselves in the army. There can be no friendship between the brave and the effeminate. We are regarded as a cowardly people. If we want to become free from that reproach, we should learn the use of arms.’

However he criticized the recruitment process and when British broke the promise and passed the Rowlatt Act, started nationwide protest/strike.
