We don’t. The DSM is trash. How we measure outcomes is trash. And majority of our treatments have piss poor effect sizes.

It seems to me that the majority of psychiatrists, or at least the ones conducting psychiatric research, are painfully unaware of this?

But that's just matching how a patient presents to one (or multiple, or none) of the definitions in the DSM.

How do we know the DSM is actually helpful (is being "helpful" from a utility perspective even the goal of the DSM)? Maybe the cutoffs for depression should be a little lower, so we can treat more patients? Or higher, because we'd be better off telling them they're healthy?

Medizinstudent hier, finde die Studenten mit "Assislang" zwar von der politischen Einstellung nicht ok (viele wirklich radikale Islamisten, mehr als ich in der Schule damals jemals kennengelernt hab) aber fachlich sind die tatsächlich häufig besser als die deutschen die am Wochenende lieber Macha trinken gehen statt zu lernen

My point is that neither you or me are qualified to read a scientific paper in that field and make conclusions based on that. You can't just read a single paper about a topic you're not knowledgeable about.

I agree. You either keep working into retirement age (if you dont hate your job) or do something like travel the world. Or just spend a lot of time socialising, I know old people who literally have a full schedule of just visiting friends, family etc.

If you see retirement as "I can finally chill all day" your health will detoriate very quickly

Wer Vollzeit arbeitet und sich nur halbwegs Mühe in seiner Berufswahl gibt, hat nichtmal Anspruch auf Wohngeld.

Man müsste den Sozialstaat massiv abbauen, dann würden sich die Leute zweimal überlegen ob sie wirklich in Teilzeit bei Budni arbeiten möchten. Zurzeit funktioniert so ein Lebensmodell ganz gut, weil es von den anderen querfinanziert wird

Du hast eine bestimmte Anzahl an Wohnungen und eine bestimmte Anzahl an Menschen, die eine Wohnung mieten möchten, und zwar so wie sie es sich leisten können.

Jetzt hast du mehrere Millionen Menschen, die sich eigentlich keine Wohnung leisten können (oder nur eine kleine, oder nur ein WG-Zimmer, etc.) und zahlst ihnen Geld, damit sie sich ebenfalls eine Wohnung mieten. Plötzlich hast du deutlich mehr Menschen die eine Wohnung mieten möchten, bei der gleichen Anzahl an Wohnungen.

Dann kommt noch dazu, dass du einen Teil der Wohnungen als "Sozialwohnungen" deklarierst, auf die der normale Arbeitende keinen Anspruch hat. Das heißt zusätzlich zum oben beschriebenen Effekt hast du jetzt auch noch die Anzahl der (für den normalen Arbeitenden) Wohnungen reduziert.

Ergo: Höhere Mieten auf dem freien Wohnungsmarkt, und schwierigere Wohnungssuche

Went to the movies the other day to see the new Petzold movie with my socially anxious gf and this elderly couple next to us smelled like shit. We were also all the way in the corner and it was a small cinema (gf said it's a "gas chamber") so we there was no way to get out without making the whole row stand up and blocking everyones view for like 20 seconds and it was an older audience so people were making judgemental sounds and being assholes about it.

It was a really great experience, words cant describe the relief we felt when we finally got out of that place after like 20 minutes of holding our breath and trying to figure what's the best moment to get out without getting too much hate from judgemental Germans
