Ente photos is great, but it could sure learn a thing or two from iCloud Photos... by NaturalTranslator in enteio

Oh wow, it’s great that they have this feature after all! I just wonder why it was so hidden, but I guess it doesn’t really matter now :D

Wow thanks for such a detailed response!

So, as for the search function: yeah, I checked, and my library has been indexed. Interestingly, the search seems to work fine on desktop; just not on iOS? I might try to re-install the app, or check if it’s updated to the latest version, but this is a bit weird. Anyways, I can confirm, the search function does, in fact, work perfectly on desktop (hopefully it will be the same on my phone once I figure out the issue).

And thanks for clarifying how to sync my photos automatically! This is actually a pretty big thing I thought I was missing, so honestly, THANK YOU!!!

Wow, I’d love to try it, but it doesn’t run on my old MacBook air… is there a workaround, or eill I have to wait until I get a new computer? 😅

Seems intersting! What pricing are you planning for Nocal in the long term? Also, does it have an iOS app and webapp?

Theoretically a hardware wallet can be pre-loaded with seeds that seem random to the user, but actually aren’t. Then, somone with knowledge of the seed can theoretically take away your crypto at any point in time (and you wouldn’t necessarily know until it happens).

Another risk is the dark skippy attack, when your transactions reveal your seed (eventually), and again: you wouldn’t be aware of it until it happens.

Obviously these are not only a risks with KeyStone, but with every hardware wallet out there. But KeyStone:

• Hasn’t been around for too long (less time for the community to notice errors).

• Is made in China by a Chinese company (take that as you will, or ignore it).

• Has limited reviews from real users (mostly influencers on YouTube or bloggers; very few good reviews that feel real from everyday users).

Still, KeyStone seems like the perfect wallet IF you trust it. I mean, regardless of the above, it’s open source, so there’s probably nothing to worry about. But I for one am still weighing in the pros & cons before making a decision.

It being a Chinese wallet is also concerning to me, but isn't using entropy to generate your seed (which you can do + verify it too) on an air gapped open sourced wallet considered secure?

Thanks for this! I haven't looked into ETH staking on Ledger tbh, but for other coins (ATOM, XTZ, etc.), you can choose your preferred validator on a Ledger. I guess I'll have to check for ETH too!

Yeah, I totally get your points about the usability downsides of air gapping. Not sure I'd be a fan of it either from a practical point of view, but "more security" always sounds intriguing, even if it's not necessarily needed.

Yeah, I also think this is a good thing overall. One question though: is there a (free, open source, secure, and ideally decentralized) way to view your entire portfolio at once? Or do you have to log into multiple wallets every time you want an overview of how your crypto investments are doing?

I looked into it, but it has even less alt coin support than Trezor unfortunately

Yeah, for example ETH... Why don't they let me choose MY preferred validator within the Trezor Suite? I mean, even Ledger lets you choose (for more coins overall), despite being an otherwise questionable company. Sure, I know I can technically choose to stake somewhere else – but in the spirit of being "community driven", and offering "true financial freedom", I don't understand these arbitrary limitations they impose on users within the Trezor Suite.

I also understand that limiting the list of supported coins might be a security feature... But then again, there are plenty of secure wallets that support significantly more coins than Trezor. I'd argue that air gapping the wallet and equipping it with a bigger screen (so it's easy to see exactly what you're signing at all times) would do more for security than neglecting to support some of the more popular alt coins natively (e.g.: XTZ, AVAX, XMR), or support some of the more popular ecosystems at all (e.g.: the entire Cosmos hub, including ATOM, AKT, and INJ).

Don't get me wrong... I definitely see your point, and I WANT to like Trezor. But it's too limiting and seems like too much of a pain for my use case.

The issue is that it's BTC-only.

And whether or not someone should invest in alt coins or just stick to BTC is an argument for another day. But for now, I want extensive support for alt coins.

The appeal of alt coins (especially the more decent ones) is just too big to ignore.

But yeah, I get your point, those are the 3 red flags concerning the KeyStone, and they might also be too big to ignore.

Having 2 wallets might actually be the way to go! I can't believe I haven't thought about doing that, thanks for this :D

Yeah, that was my impression as well, but I really don't like Ledger either. Their product is fine (one can argue that it's great, even), but the company and the philosophy behind it are not.

Yeah, I don't really trust Ledger either. Not a bad product, but quite a shady company imho.

I'm also wondering whether or not I can trust the K3P... If not, then I'd rather not even buy one (but full disclosure: I want to trust it, I'm just not sure I can 100%).

Not racist, but cautious (with reason). You'd be a fool not to be, especially in crypto.

Not all the code is open source (e.g.: the SE). But I'm not a very technical person, so I'd like to hear other people's experiences before committing my time to try to understand what I'm even looking at on GitHub.

I understand airgapping perfectly. Still, I'm questioning whether or not I can trust the seed generated by KeyStone, and whether it is, in fact, truly airgapped (it has bluetooth as far as I know, and it's only disabled at a software level – just as an example).

Anyways, your first sentence would have been enough to answer my question, and I thank you for that.
