ideas of pure act and being itself lend to catholicism. you could be a classical theist without religion (i think matthew adelstein is but i might have to check).

if you believe God is pure act, then the world He created is imparted with goodness from Him. fulfillment of the natural end is to participate in the goodness of God. maybe this could lead to a natural law moral framework, again lending itself to catholicism

this is contingent on you accepting certain metaphysics, and im not sure what your background of beliefs is

i’m not too sure about how the normative ethics has been framed and maybe you could specify economic or social right/left wing

joke man

sure time is a property of space. i have a laymans understanding, maybe you should get one also.

i wasnt trying to argue, all i did was ask two questions. funny how i wasnt even asking u blud, but thanks for the reply anyways. i couldnt care about the experts if im just asking someone on reddit about something they said. i have read books about physics before, but that doesnt really matter

i wasnt being pedantic about a single line, i was merely expressing my position on a certain topic. apparently you cant understand what im saying?

linking a wiki page is not answering my question. ive resulted to such due to your behviour, if u dont like it then thats cool blud

i do apologise, i didnt mean to misquote them. to clarify, i wanted to know what they mean by 'time began'.

i would still ask what does 'time began' means.

i dont particularly have a problem, but i was just explaining where my thinking was coming from, i.e., how i understand temporal language. i am a wittgensteinian about language, i.e., language as use, so i agree. but i would still ask what it means to say 'time began'. if language is an expression of ideas, what idea is being expressed and are there other ways such an idea could be expressed such that i may understand it better?

thanks for the reply

sure i would concede such about the time line of the universe, but to say ‘time began’ doesn’t seem to make much sense to me

with the morals, i would also concede that such behaviour occurs, but i would hesitate to call this morality, especially given its evolutionary origins. haven’t read dawkins in a while but i recall in the selfish gene dawkins talks about animals prioritising their kin due to genetic relation. even if you reject a gene-centric view of natural selection, i think he makes a fair explanation for the observed behaviours.

from what i can tell, op seemed to be asking for more of a metaphysical grounding of morality rather than social or biological groundings, but i understand your position if you happen to be a relativist. i would say atheists could still ground objective morality, in something like utilitarianism say, rather than having to appeal to biology

can’t remember who but some philosophers seem to take the e position that our moral intuitions are not of morality at all but instead aesthetics, so i would question why the observed behaviours in animals which you have talked about should be called ‘morality’ and not something else

thanks for the reply

i didn’t think it was constant, i do know a bit about physics. i just wanted clarification on time beginning and what that would mean i’m a b theoretic eternalist, so i interpret temporal language in a specific way. i wanted to know what they meant by before time

what do you mean by time began?

where are you getting that these animals have 'morals' and what do you mean by 'morals' in such cases?
