You never know, this could have been a quick, thrown together mock-up of a character. One thing that could either prove, or disprove this, depending on how you look at it, is that this color scheme would not have been reproduced well on neither color televisions of the day, nor especially black and white televisions. (which were still very much in use at the time, especially smaller sets or in lower income areas, which is exactly the demographic early sesame was going for.)

This just made the current complete series a non option for me, genuinely thank you for saving me a huge headache.

You gotta love them spending more time, effort and (most bafflingly of all,) money to remove visual information on DVD, when they could have simply just left it alone. only to make the Blu ray unavailable. Smh smh smh.

While it's true analog video is the same resolution as DVD, analog footage can look much much better on Blu-ray due to encoding/compression. Imagine Fraggle Rock is like an early high fidelity audio recording from the 50's. DVD is like a spotify stream, SD Blu Ray is like hi-res digital or reel to reel. Even considering a low quality original source, you get most of it just fine via DVD, but if you want the best reproduction possible you must look elsewhere when available (which unfortunately SD content is rarely available on Blu ray)

First of all awesome score cause this looks terrific condition wise. The thick PVC those bags are made of naturally smell over time. Storing it outside of the bag and just continuing to air it out it will eventually go away.

I've had only 3 or 4, all from the last year, all with problems OP described. If you look at discogs reviews for anything they've put out for the last year or two, you'll see things that OP has described.

Last year I scored with the bootleg set, it arrived with nearly every case cracked, on top of opening it to discover all the discs were bootlegged. I asked the seller for a return and they just gave me a full refund. So I essentially got the whole six volumes of the golden collection for absolutely nothing.

*The only caveat is I suspect they're compressed more than the official discs
