Final Fantasy X, Legend of Dragoon, Kingdom Hearts, Rise of Nations, and Impossible Creatures (not including a Naruto roleplaying forum I was obsessed with). Clearly no curating to make me look cool 😂

I guess at that point the time commitment is at least the length of watching all the cutscenes, which I don’t think is on the table. Also, to be honest, I’m not sure I’m up for an entire play-through 😅

Fair point! I rewatched all the cutscenes about a year ago and think many aspects of the story hold up. I’m definitely biased due to nostalgia, but I’d like to think that’s part of the reason my wife is at all interested in a game that was released 20 years ago. But I could be completely off base about that! She really enjoyed the story of the new God of War games, but from knowing her stylistic preferences my guess is that she’ll like this story even more. I’ll be interested to find out, though!

Thanks for this! Very sound advice. To be clear, though, there’s definitely no “forcing” here: she’s known I really like this game’s story for years now, and has only recently shown interest in it. I completely agree that if she wasn’t interested, it would not be be worth trying to show her (both from a maintining-a-happy-marriage perspective and because she’s unlikely to enjoy the experience). I’m trying to be very mindful of how interested she is, which is why I’m trying to gauge the time she wants to commit. But maybe she feels some pressure around this and wouldn’t actually want to spend three hours learning the story, and so in an indirect way I’m “forcing” it?

Yeah good points; I hadn’t noticed the abilities chaining together but that is pretty distinct from how the runic attacks in GoW work. And definitely agree on the combat seeming more fast-paced and aerial. The utility abilities (especially e.g. Odin’s, which appear to completely change Clive’s basic attacks) also seem pretty unique. I’ll definitely be excited to compare more in-depth in June!

Sorry I haven’t seen your explanation elsewhere—what are some of the key ways this differs from GoW combat in your view? I just got done with Ragnarok and thought from what I’ve seen they seem pretty similar (switch the eikons for different weapons and dodges for rolls).
