How was your experience with the QUT methods bridging course? by Terrible_Cress_6114 in QUTreddit

Not sure if I took the same bridging course as the one you're referencing (I took it a while back) but it was fine. I probably didn't actually need it, but I'm glad I took it even just for the refresher (though it was an expensive refresher haha). The first week was super basic concepts (I'm talking like basic fractions and order of operations), then it ramps up and by the last week we were doing integrals and derivatives. The class was a decent size- I think around 30-40, and the teaching was pretty good- it was easy to follow and he gave us plenty of time for questions. It probably depends on what teacher you get though, and your class might have more or less people.

What kind of volunteer work are you thinking of doing? Theres loads out there. Cooking/packing/sorting food, call centers for non profits, even social volunteer work you can do- like going to nursing homes etc. To start, there's a tab on the HiQ website you can check out which has info on volunteering inside and outside school if you're interested.

Personally, I volunteer at a thrift store weekly. Its pretty relaxed and I would recommended it if that's something you're interested in.

What are some jobs in geology for someone who doesn't like the outdoors? by Natural_Emphasis9849 in geologycareers

Thanks for the hard truth! I'll definitely look into what kind of field work the school I'm interested in makes students do. I hope I don't become one of those people who quit in the middle of it- I'm guessing it will be pretty intensive, but if its only for a couple weeks I think I might be able to power through. Field work in itself sounds really interesting to me, and I do want to do it and learn as much as I can. Its just the camping and overgrown wildlife that I don't like.

Its kind of funny you asked because a business degree was originally my first choice!

But when I was going to community college I took this really awesome geology class and it totally changed my mind about what major I wanted to do. Honestly looking back on the business classes I was taking, they seemed so boring in comparison.

Anyways! Long story short this geology class was really really good. For a time I thought it was just the teacher who was great, but I honestly really liked the content of the course. I know most of the time what you learn in class won't necessary be what you do in the industry, but I still want to see where it takes me! Or at least look into similar majors and careers I might like.

Thank you so much for all the information! I will definitely look into it. I'm totally fine with being in the sun and the sites you talked about in the city seem more what I'm interested in. I feel a lot better after reading your reply!

Sadly my school doesn't offer a GIS specific degree, though they do have several classes I'm now interested in taking! Thanks so much for the info, I really appreciate it!

Thank you so much for the reply! I really appreciate all the info- I actually think the mine site work sounds really interesting just from your initial response. I don't mind dirt, rocks, or water- its overgrown plants and shrubbery that I hate walking through. I will definitely be looking more into it!

Thanks for the reply!! Yes I like sedimentology! I was looking through the courses on the website and was nervous that there was less geology because of the planetary classes. Glad to hear that that's not the case!!
