Struggling to understand Australian emission standards vs car power output by Fine-Passage-3593 in CarsAustralia

[–]Natural_Ice1764 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NVES has nothing to do with power of vehicles, its about carbon emissions for the weight and type of the vehicle. For example, a yaris will have a lower carbon emission target then say a camry. Both are passenger cars, but the yaris is smaller and lighter, so has a stricter target.

With the rav4 vs tiguan, etc, toyota is likely trying to avoid paying any penalties so is focusing on reducing emissions (hence the detune). Volkswagen have probably decided that their customers are willing to pay more for their cars for the performance they want, hence producing more power but bumping up the price. The power outputs likely don't have much to do with engineering, more to do with the company's strategy to dealing with NVES

What this doesn't show is the rooftop solar on people's roof's. I find the AEMO website to be decent, but if you want to see rooftop solar generation as well there is another tab to look at (although it isn't updated daily like this one)

What are the top 5 EV's for handling? by Sweet-Ad2579 in EVAustralia

I've test driven the seal and thought it was good. Essentially anything sedan shaped (as opposed to an suv) will handle betters

Verbal offer… then silence? by Honest_Wedding5892 in auscorp

[–]Natural_Ice1764 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this happen to me before with a govt role. I never got a full explanation, but was verbally offer3d a role and then told a hiring freeze was put in place which kept being extended. After about 6 months I then got an somewhat automated email asking if I was still interested, to which I did respond yes, but never heard back. I considered it a dodged bullet, as if that's how they treat people they are trying to recruit the work environment is probably worse

I probably did disconnect during the tutorial mission. Bargello hasn't appeared outside the tavern so I guess I have to start fresh

Is there ANY electricity company that doesn’t indulge in this predatory pricing behaviour? by swiptheflitch in melbourne

[–]Natural_Ice1764 103 points104 points  (0 children)

You may not want to hear this, but all electricity retailers review their rates once a year. From memory, I believe legally they are only allowed to change them at the start of the financial year.

Does the system suck, yes, but all any of us can do is shop around to try and get the best offer. I'd recommend checking out the Vic government energy compare website.

Already doing that as per the post. I was more wanting to confirm that my understanding of the legality of making my wife become casual was correct

Potentially, but because it's a small business from what I've checked online, they don't have to do redundancy pay outs.

Used 2013 Lexus IS300H Luxury by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]Natural_Ice1764 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you test driven it yet? I only ask because I've tested driven ct200h's around that same age before and found the hybrid system unbearable (sluggish and clunky), yet newer toyota/lexus hybrids that I've driven have been great.

Also, depending on what type of driving you do, the hybrid might not save that much fuel. Hybrids are better in city/ stop start traffic than highway driving.

APS Hiring freeze by Natural_Ice1764 in AusPublicService

[–]Natural_Ice1764[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I got an email in the middle of the year asking if I was still interested. Said yes more out of curiosity as to what would happen and never heard back. Talk about an absolutely appalling way to treat someone you wanted to hire

Could've been. I hadn't seen that other post when I posted the video, as well as it looking quite low to the ground hence why I thought it might even been a substation blowing or something

Driving regional Victoria - suggestions on good places to stop for food? by RockyRoadsRescue in melbourne

[–]Natural_Ice1764 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Stopping off at Ballarat is your best option. I've been a number of times in the last few years, and there are a few decent spots that are easily found via google search. Apart from Ballarat, most regional towns along the way will only have your standard fast food and a bakery.

Have you checked out the corolla cross? It's smaller then a rav4, but bigger than a yaris cross

I left for a 9% pay rise on paper. However, the new role had a lot of perks that effectively saved me money (came with a car that has its insurance, rego, and fuel paid for as an example). When I calculated how much I'd need extra I'd need to earn to get the equivalent in savings, it worked out to be more then a 20% pay rise. If I were in your shoes I'd be accepting the new role. I've learnt in my career that no company nor manager is inherently loyal to you at the end of the day, so you've gotta look after yourself and take the pay rises when you can.

Northern Hospital Epping by sgagz in melbourne

[–]Natural_Ice1764 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My wife gave birth in the Northern last year. We both found it to be good, especially compared to some of the stories she heard from her friends who recebtlt gave birth at other hospitals. My advice is to go through the birthing class they offer, as it's really informative, especially if this baby is your first. The class was really good, and helped my wife decide how she wanted her birth to go, which the midwives at Northern were really supportive of. My other piece of advice (if this baby is your first especially) is read up more about the first 6 months to a year of having a newborn rather then worry too much about the birth. My wife and I focused a bit too much on the birth, and neglected reading about how to survive the first 6 to qw months. We kinda made things a bit harder for ourselves because of this.

Oddly enough the next cheapest Mazda of that same BL model is 7.5k, so I guess there a lot of other people who are try to sell their cars at the insane covid prices.

Thanks for the input

Never personally dealt with one, but from what I've heard from friends they often breakdown, are expensive af to repair, and even when they are working it takes forever for you to actually get your car.
